Band Members have many opportunities to perform. Jazz Band, Pep Band, Spring Musical, Madrigal Brass/ Recorders, and other small ensembles take place through the school year at Plainfield North. Alexis - Clarinet Class of 2014

Shane - Trumpet / Drum Major Class of 2014

When I first joined the PNHS marching band we were on the verge of greatness. As the year passed we became surprisingly wonderful. By next season, through hard work and determination we became wonderful without any sort of surprise attached to it. Now, with two more years ahead of me I can assure you; we will continue to exceed expectations!

Ed - Euphonium / Flute Class of 2015 My time with the PNHS BAND has not only been a pleasure, but a privilege. I look forward to playing my instrument every day. You find motivation not only to make music, but you get to do it with a group of people who share the same passion.

Frequently Asked Questions about the PNHS Bands… Q: Is band a class? A: Yes. All band members are enrolled (based on auditions) for Concert Band, Symphonic Band, or Wind Ensemble. These ensembles meet each school day throughout the year. All band members combine to make the PNHS Marching Band, which rehearses and performs during evenings and weekends through the fall. Q: Can I be in band and still participate in other activities and/or athletics? A: Yes! We have many students that are involved in band and other PNHS activities - choir, dance, drama, speech, athletics, National Honor Society, and many other clubs or organizations. Band is certainly a big time commitment. It can get tough at times to juggle multiple activities, but it is well worth the hard work, flexibility, and careful planning. Q: What is PE exemption and how does it work? A: Band students receive a PE exemption after two years enrolled in the program. This allows students to have an extra period available during the day for junior and senior, making it easier to keep band on your schedule. Ask any band member—you will get a work out during marching band! Students must be enrolled in band for all four years, otherwise the exemption is voided. Q: During marching season, who can participate in the Color Guard section? A: Any PNHS student can audition for the color guard section of the marching band, even if not enrolled in the curricular band. Color Guard is the one section that we allow non-band students to join as an extra-curricular activity. Everyone else in the ensemble is enrolled in band class. If you have any friends that do not play an instrument but would like to be in marching band, encourage them to audition for the Color Guard section!
