Musselman Color Study Students learned about the artwork of Piet Mondrian and his use of primary colors. Students learned to make secondary colors by mixing 2 primary colors. It was exciting for them to discover shades of color when doing the lesson!

Musselman Swaddled in a Blanket Students learned about the artwork of Blanket blankett Gustav Klimt. He is known for creating patterns within his work. Students drew portraits of babies and swaddled in blankets with lovely colors and patterns.

Peaceful Kingdoms

Students learned about the artwork of Edward Hicks, a man who desired a peaceful world. We discussed his famous painting Peaceable Kingdom. Here is one student’s interpretation of peace.

Paul V. Fly Elementary Kindergarten Portraits Kindergarten students studied portraiture. First they learned to use basic shapes to make a shape person. Next they focused on working more realistically to make a self-portrait.

Emotional Support Students focused on the Art Element of Line. Listening to music, they chose colors based upon their feelings.

First Grade Cave Art Students learned about Lascaux Cave. They chose to create horse or bull paintings.

Whitehall Elementary

Impressionism Second graders learn about the style of Impressionism

Art inspired by Australia First graders create boomerangs in the style of the native people of Australia.

Primary and Secondary Color Study Kindergarten learned how to mix the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) to make the secondary colors (purple, orange, green)

Whitehall Elementary “Rough Waves” Seascapes Fourth Graders used paint, cut paper, and collage techniques to create a landscape of the sea.

Gotwals Elementary School Keith Haring’s Positive People Second grade students learn about the Pennsylvania artist, Keith Haring, and about how his art is about all people.

3D Architectural Design Fourth grade students learned about the traditional architecture of the Aztecs, focusing on the traditional use of 3 –dimensional shapes. Here a student designed a building and then 3D printed it.

Symmetry Masks Third Grade students learned about the traditional masks and art of Native Americans as well as the art of a contemporary Native American artist, Brian Jungen. Students created symmetrical masks in response to the art work.

Gotwals Elementary School Cave Narratives First grade artists work on their characters for their Cave Narrative Art. After completing their characters, students created stop animations of a day in the life of a cave artist.

Winter Solstice Photo Collage In order to celebrate the start of winter, the third and fourth grade students created photo collages using green screening.

Art Goes to School Gotwals students explored famous art with the volunteers from Art Goes to School.

Knit/Crochet for Charity Some 7th grade students and

fiber art club volunteers

are learning to crochet and loom knit and will be donating their creations to the oncology unit at the King of Prussia C.H.O.P. Students are also creating rectangles to donate to Warm Up America, an organization that puts together blankets for homeless Americans. This project has been made possible by a grant funded by The Delaware Valley Fairness Project.

Color Wheel Collage 5th grade students in Mrs.Stanchock’s Recycled and Repurposed Art class used donated magazines to find color samples and create a color wheel collage.

Media Arts Documentary Stewart’s first Media Arts class is working on interviews for a documentary they are creating around the topic of cultural proficiency. The students created the questions, conducted and filmed the interviews, and are using IMovie to edit together the final version of their short film.

East Norriton Middle School Portraiture 8th grade began to study portraiture by analyzing the

difference

between

idealistic

and

individualistic. They started by trying to learn general proportions and eventually were able to draw self-portraits.

Chip Art Portraits After their self-portraits, they chose another portrait to represent using recycled paint squares. They imitated the look of mosaic art by using a variety of shapes to fill in each area.

Georgia O’Keeffe Pastel Study

7th Grade students learned about Georgia O’Keeffe and drew enlarged pictures from nature. Students experimented with both oil and chalk pastels and chose which medium they wanted to use. To go along with O’Keeffe’s love of nature, students were given a wide variety of images from nature, such as flowers, leaves, shells, and skulls. They then chose a photograph to enlarge using the grid method of drawing.

Cubist Superhero Paintings 6th grade students explored cubism and created cubist style paintings of their favorite superheroes.

Texture Sea Creatures 5th grade students explored texture and watercolor techniques to create interesting oceanscapes.

Radial Name Design 8th Grade students were challenged

to hide one

word in their drawing using radial symmetry. This concept helps support rotations and reflections which is being taught in math this year.

Eisenhower MS Coil Pots 6th grade students work on creating clay coil pots which they then glaze. These beautiful pieces of artwork are also functional.

Metal Tooling 7th grade students studied metal tooling this year. They worked to create patters and unique designs in the metal.

Norristown Area High SchoolMs. Noce Rm. 101 Creative Design Students created their own textile designs using the print making method. They then transformed them into their own unique fashion designs using alternative materials.

Art Major 1 The Metamorphosis pieces are finally finished. Student’s creatively transformed one image into another using their understanding of basic shapes, contour, and value.

Sculpture Semester 1 students are finishing their ongoing sculptures. They created additive sculptures from wire and clay, molds and casts, and reductive sculptures in the style of Henry Moore.

Portfolio Prep Studio During preparation of their Portfolios for admittance into art Schools, the students had the opportunity to travel to Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and partake in a college drawing class in the historic cast hall where they observed direct replicas of famous sculptures from around the world!
