Canola Junior Men’s Provincial Championship West Kildonan Curling Club January 5 - 9, 2012

Message from the Curl Manitoba President Resby Coutts Manitoba curling is in a time of change – a time when CurlManitoba, as an organization, is seeing the implementation of a new governance philosophy. It is a philosophy which re-focuses the attention of your association on a healthy future for our sport by focussing on the health of our member clubs and facilities. Our junior competitors can look to a future for the sport of curling which could not be imagined even a few years ago. From the opportunity to play a great sport at a very local level to the opportunity to play in the Olympics, curling can be your social, recreational and competitive sport outlet for a lifetime. That depends on your own motivations, desires, and willingness to strive for excellence at whatever level best fits you. It comes with a price, however. Just as you will commit your energy to playing the games, you are going to have to be prepared to commit your energy and your time to the sport itself. For nearly 125 years, those who have gone before you have provided the clubs and leagues in which you play the game. Soon it will be your turn. The Mission Statement of CurlManitoba defines the challenge we all face: To promote, develop and grow the sport of curling in Manitoba, Canada and the world by providing leadership, services and programs for the curling community from grassroots to elite. The reference to Canada & the world define our responsibility to continue to be a resource to curling outside the provincial boundary. However, the mission statement primarily recognizes that championships will grow from a strong base where curlers play the game for the joy of the game in vibrant local facilities. Our Junior age competitors can look forward to many years of both recreational and competitive curling. It is up to all of us to help ensure that lifetime of opportunity exists. And that includes you as juniors, when your turn comes. To each of you as competitors in this Canola Junior Championship, I extend best wishes as you strive to achieve your competitive goals and set the stage for your future in the greatest sport in the world. And on behalf of all of the CurlManitoba member organizations, I extend sincere thanks to the sponsors and volunteer organizers of the 2011-12 Canola Junior Men’s Provincial Championship. CurlManitoba Event Staff Head Umpire – Danny VandeVyvere Supervising Umpire – Nancy Rummery Event Manager – Cole Skinner Event and Program Assistant – Melissa Doan
