Since founded in 1977, SK E&C has acquired world-class competitiveness in civil engineering as well as the construction of commercial buildings, residential complexes, oil refineries, gas processing plants, petrochemical plants, power plants, and advanced IT infrastructure. Today, we are aggressively pursuing urban development projects all over the world as a Total Solution Provider instead of satisfying with current status. We have been engaged in civil infrastructure projects home and abroad such as roads, high-speed railways, subways, port facilities and industrial complex site preparation. In particular, SK E&C secured highly advanced technologies in the area of underground storage, including oil stockpiling caverns. SK E&C has applied the latest construction methods and state-of-the-art systems in housing construction to redefine the way people live. On top of that, we are aggressively pursuing mixed-use development projects that bring together residential, commercial, office, cultural, educational and leisure facilities in one complex. Currently we are expanding our business beyond Korea so as to be a global leading company in environmental-friendly business. We have built or are building oil refineries, petrochemical plants and gas processing plants in more than 20 countries in the Middle East, South America and Southeast Asia. Importantly, we are preparing to serve our customers as a total solution provider that engages in a project from the beginning of pre-construction (engineering design and project development) and to the post-construction (operation and maintenance) stages of projects based on world-class engineering, construction and project management capabilities. We have also been involved in diverse EPC power generation projects worldwide including coalfired, nuclear, and renewable energy plants. The competencies and experiences that we have gained

Advancing Together with Partners Various “win-win cooperation” programs are in place to promote growth and advancement with business partners. SK E&C organizes training programs every year to improve partners’ quality and raise their awareness of safety. The management support center offers them the know-how to build various management systems. Taking Customer Satisfaction to the Next Level The safety and health management program seeks to ensure stakeholder wellbeing through accidentfree construction. The latest systems are applied, and resource competencies are being bolstered and integrated to maintain competitiveness. SK E&C operates integrated and complementary IT systems with business partners and works closely with them to strengthen ties. Meanwhile, a unique “culture of quality” is being built at SK E&C. To this end, process efficiency in the quality management program is improved steadily. The lessons learned from cases studies of success as well as failures are utilized as much as possible. SK E&C employees are being trained to make adherence to procedure an integral part of their work lives, and the competencies of quality management personnel are developed constantly.
Our EMS first obtained ISO 14001 certification in October 1997 and that certification was renewed in October 2008. In addition, we formed the Environment Management Committee to deliberate and decide on important issues pertaining to the environment as well as to provide regular assessments on overall environmental performance. In addition, the Green Culture, Green Process and Green Product Subcommittees operate under the Environment Management Committee, completing the foundation for environmental management and making SK E&C stand out as an environment-friendly company.
The SK E&C Environmental Management System(EMS) was established to fulfill corporate social responsibilities toward the environment and to ascertain fundamental environmental impact in advance of any projects. Internal regulations on the environment are much stricter than what the law allows.

Various projects are underway to reduce solid waste generation while increasing the recycling and reuse of the waste that is generated. SK E&C is also cleaning up contaminated soil as part of ongoing efforts to restore environmental quality. SK E&C has created a unique method of cutting plastic sheet with a water jet, and it is now being used at recycling facilities. Microbes developed in-house for breaking down weathering products in oil-contaminated soil are now being applied when tilling soil.

Green Energy for Eco-friendly Energy Independence SK E&C is intent on developing technologies for low-carbon, clean-burning energy sources that are sustainable, helping the nation to become energy independent. The front-end engineering and design (FEED) technology developed inhouse for LNG plants has already been applied to natural gas liquefaction facilities. The office buildings and high-rise apartment complexes we construct are the ultimate dream for their occupants, and our SUPEX-Cut method has advanced the art of tunnel building. The technology we developed for analyzing monitoring data can determine air tightness in underground oil storage caverns. It was named one of the top 100 Korean technologies in the 20th century by the Korean Ministry of Science & Technology. Meanwhile, the company concluded technology sharing agreements with Geostock and SN Technigaz of France to design and build the first-ever cryogenic cavern for LNG storage. The energy-saving double-skin facade, building energy & water management system and other cutting-edge technologies developed in-house have allowed us to lead Korea’s building and housing construction sector. We also built the Eco Lab at SK Chemical with state-of-the-art green technologies such as the building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system, and the structure received the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification in the US, with a Platinum rating, as well as a record score on Korea’s own Green Building Certification Criteria (GBCC) program. SK E&C is applying the extensive technological expertise and construction project tract record amassed at sites around the world to build major expressways and arterial roads in the nationwide transportation grid. Projects of note in this regard include the Yongin-Seoul Expressway and the Incheon Grand Bridge connecting road. SK E&C has also contributed significantly to the improvement of Korean bridge design and technology. For example, the company selectively applied the structural advantages of pre-stressed concrete girder bridges and cable suspension bridges to build Korea’s first extra dosed bridge, which offers a special kind of aesthetic elegance. Many of the bridges built by SK E&C have become local landmarks, including the Incheon 2nd Yeonyuk Bridge Project, and the company is now aggressively pursuing bridge projects overseas.

SK E&C continues to participate in subway construction projects in all of Korea’s major cities. The company has also built light rail lines, the DonghaeNambu Line(serving Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongju, Pohang) and other important rail links that promote balanced regional development. Of special note is the Seoul-Busan High-speed Rail Project, which required advanced technological expertise. A Constant Pursuit of Excellence to Lead the Construction of Technology-intensive Power Generation Infrastructure
Our involvement in power plant construction began in the early 1990s with the Donghae thermal plant (Korea’s East Coast). More recently, we also built Units 3 and 4, the largest capacity (1,600MW) in Korea at the Yeongheung thermal power complex. Currently, we are involved in multiple large-scale EPC projects inside and outside Korea. These projects include a LNG combined-cycle thermal power plant (833MW) project at Oseong in Korea, collaboration with SK E&S, and the Tufanbeyli thermal power plant project in Turkey. In addition we have stepped up our marketing to win new projects in Latin America. This effort has resulted an EPC project for a 300 MW power plant in Panama. We are capable of providing our own EPC Service system that we are expanding our business scope. Our technical experiences that we have accumulated domestically and internationally are now well recognized in worldwide.

Corporate Social Responsibility The SK E&C Hope Maker CSR Program pairs all employees 600 children and adolescents from lowincome families in the Seoul area to provide economic and moral support continuously. In addition to monthly economic assistance, employees meet with their counterparts regularly and visit their homes to provide vitally needed home improvements. They also help their counterparts develop their natural talents to become good citizens and even help to pay medical expenses in emergencies. In addition, the SK E&C Customer Centers around Korea have organized a program that improves the living environment of needy families since 2006. Each month, Center employees visit selected families to repaper walls, lay new linoleum, put down tiling and so on. The Customer Centers have received numerous plaques of appreciation from local communities as a result of this program. Environmental & Safety Education SK E&C runs various educational programs for children to raise their appreciation for the importance of safety and the environment. The Happy Green School program offers classes on the environment and experiential programs help the children to foster a love for nature from an early age and to acquire eco-friendly living habits. Systematic environmental education support is provided to primary school students in the greater Seoul Area. We are also leaders in the effort to instill safety awareness in children. Employees volunteer to act as crossing guards and to lead safety experiential activities for children who are attending primary schools near worksites.
Our robust CSR program is in step with the SK Group’s “Happiness Maximization” philosophy. Currently, more than 6,000 or our employees at the Head Office, branch offices and construction sites now take part of this philosophy. The program focuses on four main areas: domestic social contributions, environmental and safety education, environmental preservation, and global social contributions. SK E&C is fulfilling corporate social responsibilities while providing opportunities for employees to share happiness with members of local communities.
Environmental Preservation Activities SK E&C is offering nature’s blessings to customers while at the same time preserving the natural environment for all. SK E&C has adopted a 330m² section of Seoul Forest for regular care throughout the year (managing wetland plants, picking fruits, weeding, raking leaves and winterization), while worksites around the country take responsibility for regular cleanups of a local mountain and stream in the vicinity. In addition, the company-sponsored programs are being expanded to include environmental education, natural disaster relief support, and forestation projects. Four times a year, a Happiness Sharing with Families event is held, allowing employees and their family members to spend quality time while taking part in environmental protection activities together. Global CSR Activities SK E&C continues to expand its scope of work at locations outside Korea, prompting the need for greater involvement in local communities. A regular effort is made to strengthen goodwill in communities near worksites as well as to cultivate the sensitivities of the local children. We donated 500 Arabic editions of books on Korean culture and provided school supplies and books on various subjects to the Dumai Primary School in Indonesia and a Korean school in Kuwait. We also sponsored a high school football tournament in Esmeraldas, Ecuador. SK E&C is reconstructing the oil refinery, and programs such as these to improve the company image in the eyes of the public.
