WD  TV  Live  IP  Driver  for  Control4

    Version:  1.0.0   Filename:  mediaplayer_WDTVLIVE_IP.c4i   Release  date:  04/19/2014

Introduction     This   driver   enables   IP   control   of   mediaplayer   from   Western   Digital,   models   Live   and   Play.   It   replaces   ordinary  bug  IR  drivers.     IP   control   is   considerably   better   than   IR   control   due   to   its   reliability,   avoiding   complains   from   the   customer  about  buggy  IR  communications.

Features     The   driver   provides   remote   control   of   the   WD   TV   using   applications   from   Control4   as   MyHomePC,   MyHome  for  iOS  and  Android.

Recommendations     A  list  of  short  recommendations  to  make  it  a  better  experience  of  using  this  driver.   1) Use   Ethernet   cable   for   connection.   Wi-‐fi   can   create   problems   of   communication   between   Control4  and  WD  (set  static  IP  always);   2) Assign  shortcuts  to  the  numbers  of  remote  control  (check  following  topics  in  this  manual)   3) Do  not  power  off  the  WD  to  control  ON/OFF  using  a  relay  for  instance.  When  WD  starts  from   cold   boot,   it   takes   longer   to   start   up.   Tell   the   user   to   use   the   default   red   button   to   start   it   up   (you  can  change  it  if  you  want).

Limitations     This  driver  has  the  following  limitations:   1. No  power  discrete  codes.  WD  TV  Live  don’t  have  discrete  ON  and  OFF  codes.  This  issue  makes   difficult  for  Control4  to  understand  when  the  device  is  ON  or  OFF.  To  power  on  or  power  off  the   device  this  driver  is  configured  to  use  the  RED  BUTTON.  The  user  must  turn  on/off  manually.  You   can  change  to  another  button  by  changing  the  properties  of  the  driver.     2. Mute   toggle   cannot   be   identified   by   Control4   as   WD   TV   do   not   have   discrete   codes   for   that.   But   the  mute  button  will  work  property.     3. Models  supported:  WD  TV  Live  and  WD  TV  Play.

Test  before  install     You   should   test   this   driver   on   your   shop   before   install   on   customer’s   site.   The   installation   is   straightforward.  In  case  of  need  for  support,  please  contact  us  on  your  helpdesk.

Installing  the  Driver     First  off  all,  make  sure  the  WD  TV  Media  player  has  static  IP  address   The   driver   communicates   directly   with   the   media   player   through   the   TCP/IP   Network.   Make   sure   that   you  have  set  up  a  static  IP  address  for  the  media  player.  Otherwise  if  the  IP  changes,  the  driver  cannot   connect  to  the  media  player.  You  can  set  this  directly  on  the  media  player  or  in  the  router  by  setting  the   MAC  Address  of  media  player  in  the  router’s  configuration.

Add  the  driver  to  your  project   In  Composer  go  to  the  menu  named  Driver  à  Add  Driver,  and  select  the  file  that    you  have  received  in   this  package  named  “mediaplayer_WDTVLIVE_IP.c4i”   Then  you  need  to  add  the  driver  to  your  project.
