University of Bath Latin and Ballroom Dance Club

The Yearbook 2011 / 2012

Pull up a (Vice) Chair with Catherine This year has been another fantastic one for Latin and Ballroom. We have over 200 members in the club and you’ve all helped make the year so enjoyable and created a really vibrant atmosphere at lessons and often making them hilarious as well! As always, the trip up to Blackpool for the 50th IVDC was a memorable weekend and loads of fun with Mamma Mia sing-a-longs, freezing toes in the sea and dancing to the Empress Orchestra. As well as holding the fantastic Bath Comp, this year also saw us hosting SUDC. Over 400 competitors entered and it was a really enjoyable day thanks to Kelvin and the rest of the SUDA committee and all their hard work organising and running the event. The Christmas and May Balls were another highlight of the year and really entertaining with many mini competitions and ‘fun’ dances - although I think our usual dancing counts as fun! I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paula, James, Asia and Jon for their hard work during the year and for all the incredible support they give us at competitions. Also, special congratulations to Paula for her Lifetime Achievement award! The rest of the committee have also put in a lot of work to keep the club running smoothly and organising all the events and competitions that you’ve enjoyed this year so a big thanks to all of them. Lastly, a special thank you to both Matt Bannister and Iain who helped out at nearly every lesson which made our jobs easier and really increased the male:female ratio! Good luck to next year’s committee and I’m sure under Nick’s guidance the club will continue to grow and become more amazingly fantastic than it already is! It’s been a pleasure to be your Vice Chair and I hope you all enjoyed the year as much as I have. I look forward to seeing many of you again in the coming year but for those of you moving on from Bath, good luck in your new ventures and remember, keeeeeeeeep dancing - and come back to see us!!!

Outgoing Committee Chair Name: Nickname: Degree: Favourite Dance: In a few Words:

Tadas Zgirskis Tadas Economics Quickstep Tadas was the club chair person this year. He has been dancing for many years; since long before he came to Bath and has achieved success in many competitions. With us, he took part in a few this year where he achieved some success but unfortunately was not always able to compete or attend the lessons.

Catherine Armour Catherine Natural Sciences Cha Cha Cha I’ve really enjoyed being vice chair this year and getting more involved in the running of the club. Being on committee has improved both my table moving skills (now very impressive) and talking to people I don’t know well which has never been my strong point! IVDA weekend is one of the highlights of my year as it was loads of fun though the general messing around in lessons is often hilarious too! I hope you’ve all enjoyed the year as much as me and hope to see lots of you back in September!

Belle Chong Belle Pharmacy Napping Belle has been taking our money all year which should make her one of the least popular people on committee. She is normally smiling (or asleep) though and so we all forgive her for doing her job. Belle has danced competitions with Kelvin and together they have been in many finals establishing a very heavy collection of silverware!
