2017 Quilt Fiesta

Categories, Definitions & Descriptions For the purposes of this show, a quilt consists of three layers (a top, a layer of batting, and a backing layer). The layers are held together by quilting stitches and the quilting stitches must be visible on both the top and the back. Tied quilts will not be accepted except as noted in category 1400. Block-of-the-Month and quilts made from kits WILL be accepted and if judged, should be entered in an appropriate category. Judged Categories (if your quilt is not being judged it is placed in the 2000 category, Non-Judged.) The judging committee reserves the right to change a quilt category based on either incorrect selection, or number of entries in a category. Some categories may be combined if too few entries, other categories may be divided into smaller groupings based on quilt size to allow for competitive judging.

QUILTS MADE BY TWO PEOPLE:

These quilts are made by exactly two people and any division of labor is acceptable. Examples: one person made the top and a second person did the quilting OR one person made the top and did the quilting while a second person added the binding OR any other combinations that involves two people working on the quilt.

Whether whole cloth, pieced, appliquéd or embroidered, the miniature is a small scale replica of a full sized quilt. All parts of the quilt should be in proportion including the appliqué, piecing, quilting, borders and finishing. The longest side may not exceed 24”.

1200 One Person Quilt – Pictorial/Whimsical Original design representing a recognizable person, place or thing; including

caricature, fairy tale and cartoon style. Any technique (including works from photographs and digitally enhanced quilts), hand or machine quilted.

1300 One Person Quilts – Art- Abstract

Original design is abstract or graphic and must not be based on an existing quilt or another artist's interpretation of the same subject matter. A quilt made from or adapted from a publically available pattern is NOT eligible in this category. Hand or machine quilted.

OTHER QUILTS: 1400 Other

Primary design showcases a special technique other than piecing or appliqué. This may include but is not limited to: whole cloth or minimal piecing ("Modern") with emphasis on the quilting, embroidery by hand or machine, cathedral windows, yoyos and crazy quilts. Quilts in this category may be whole cloth or modern or may be cathedral windows and yoyos. This includes visible quilting stitches, depending on technique.

Tucson Quilt Fiesta! Entry Information Entry Requirements: You must be a TQG member with active status as of October 12, 2016 to enter a quilt in the show. All entries must have been made or worked on by the member, or be owned by the member. Entries may not have been displayed in a previous Tucson Quilters Guild show. Number of entries: Each member may submit up to 3 entries. Mark the priority number for each quilt on the entry form. Second and third priority entries will be accepted on a space available basis. If you have only one entry, please remember to mark it priority #1. Entry forms: Each quilt must have a separate entry form. Be sure to complete everything on the form, it is all necessary information. There is a $1 non-refundable fee per person. All entry forms must be submitted no later than October 11 and 12 at the general meetings, or postmarked NOT later than Friday October 28, 2016. There is an additional $5 non-refundable fee per quilt for judging. Categories and Definitions: Please read all of the information on the Categories and Definitions page. This information changes slightly from year to year and it is important that you read it before filling out your entry form. Non-judged quilts will all be placed in the 2000 category. Judged quilts will be placed in the appropriate judged category. They may or may not award all available ribbons. They will also have ribbons available for special awards (best use of color, best appliqué, etc.) and will award these ribbons as they see fit. Viewers’ Choice Awards: In addition to the awards for judged quilts, we will ask the viewing public to choose their favorites. The Viewers’ Choice committee will tabulate the results and present awards for first, second, third and honorable mention(s). Quilt Delivery and Pick Up: All quilts will be turned in at the February general meetings (February 8 & 9, 2017). All quilts must be picked up at the TCC on Sunday, February 19, 2017 between 5:30 and 6:30 pm after takedown is completed. Preparing your quilt: Details about hanging sleeves, delivering your quilt in a pillowcase, labeling the quilt and pillowcase, etc., will be in the acceptance letter you will receive after all the entries have been received and reviewed. We will make every effort to treat your quilt with respect, but cannot guarantee to provide any special handling for delicate items. TQG does not provide insurance for the quilts in the show. 4

Tucson Quilters Guild 39th Annual Quilt Show QUILT FIESTA 2017 FEBRUARY 17,18, & 19, 2017 This annual display is our best opportunity to fulfill the Guild’s primary goal to educate and promote quilting in our community. The show displays the work our Guild members have been doing, providing both our members and the community with inspiration to continue growing and learning. The Quilt Fiesta (February 17,18,19, 2017) is open to the public Friday and Saturday, 9 :00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Public admission to the show is $10 daily, or a 3-day pass is available for $20. Members who hostess will get in free for that day; members who do not have a hostess shift must pay the regular admission fee. If you are over 80, you are exempt from a hostess shift and may request a complimentary ticket. Parking: Members are encouraged to carpool or be dropped off, as parking has been a problem in the past. Parking lot B is most convenient to the Show; it is also adjacent to the handicapped entrance. Members are responsible for all parking fees associated with their hostess shift. The Entry Forms are not attached. Most members are able to download both the packet and entry forms; you may print as many copies of the entry forms as needed. Both are available on our website (tucsonquiltersguild.com) on the password protected page. You need one entry form per entry; you may enter up to 3 items.
