From the Principal……

Welcome back after a holiday with beautiful weather! Easter certainly is a wonderful opportunity for families to be together. I hope everyone is feeling rejuvenated and ready to achieve new learning goals during the 11 weeks of Term 2. This term major features and highlights include ANZAC Day, Cross Country, the sharing of midyear reports, Parent-Teacher meetings, and winter sport for Grade 5/6. It would be wonderful if you are available to attend our ANZAC assembly on Friday at 11.40 in the Max Fry Hall. On Saturday it would also be greatly appreciated if you and your children would be able to attend the Launceston City Council and Launceston RSL parade and be part of our Trevallyn School team. The parade departs Princes Square at 10.30. We will meet at the top or eastern end of the park at approximately 10.15 and students are requested to wear winter uniform. The main service is held at the Launceston Cenotaph at 11 and will conclude at approximately 11.30.

If your child is absent from school PLEASE call our office on 6331 9657 before 9.00am to let us know. This is both school and Department of Education policy.

Student Supervision Before School There is no supervision for students if they arrive before 8.30 am. Prior to this time teachers are in meetings and preparing for the day of teaching and learning. Please assist your child’s teacher by keeping your child at home until after 8.30 am.

Grade 4-A Bransden

For parents’ information, those who nominated their child/children for inclusion in the Rainbows Program, the groups began this week and run for 12 weeks.

Excited to be back for Term 2!

ANZAC Day Community Gathering

Wanted Flowers Grade 2 McDonough are making wreaths for the school ANZAC Day Assembly. If you have any cut flowers in your garden we would appreciate it if you could bring them to our classroom on Thursday morning.

Excursion to Cenotaph Grade 3-4A Radosavljevic The Trevallyn Reserve Community Group are extending an open invitation to the community to gather at the Rotunda in the Trevallyn Reserve at 3pm this Saturday. With the 100th Anniversary of ANZAC approaching we thought it would be a beautiful mark of respect and an occasion to lay a wreath at the rotunda. Originally known as Anzac Park. The rotunda was the constructed in 1922, with the official unveiling of the marble tablet inscribed with the names of the Trevallyn soldiers in the following year. This plaque was the first of this kind in Launceston after the Great War. On 25th April 1923 the children of the Trevallyn State School were present. They faced the plaque as Boy Scouts lay a wreath at the calling out of each of the soldiers’ names. This will be the first of many gatherings at the Reserve.

On Tuesday 28 April, Grade 3-4A Radosavljevic are going on an excursion to the Cenotaph and Launceston Police Station. They will be leaving school at 9.15am and returning by lunch time. Children should wear their sports uniform.

Excursion to Cenotaph Grades 3-A Richelme and 3-B Tarr On Tuesday 28 April Grades 3-A Richelme and 3-B Tarr will all be walking to Royal Park, the Cenotaph and then on to the Planetarium as part of our Science and History units. We will be looking at the commemoration of ANZAC Day and discussing the importance of the wreath laying at the Cenotaph. We will be leaving school at approximately 9.15 am and returning by bus, to school at 2.30pm. The students will need to wear their sports uniform and require a drink and lunch for the day. They will not be able to order their lunch.

We hope to breathe new life into this once much used and important space in our community. Welcome to all as we pay respect to the soldiers of Trevallyn. Come along and share in the laying of the wreath and stay on to have a chat about our ideas and vision to breathe life into this park.

Excursion to City Park Kinder A and B On Monday 4 May Kinder A and B will be visiting the City Park. We will be observing the autumn trees and the changes which occur during autumn. We will be leaving school at 11.45am and return to school at 2.30pm. Children will need to bring a packed lunch, drink, coat and wear their school uniform.
