Our catalogues show the availability of each product. We have a wide range of products in stock, including the most popular doors. Made to order doors will generally take around 3 weeks and made to order joinery will have a lead time of 4 weeks. Always confirm the lead time at the time of order.
For special orders we require a 40% deposit at the time of order and payment at the time of collection or prior to delivery.
Many of our products are large and bulky. If you are in our delivery area (most of greater Auckland) we encourage you to take advantage of our competitively priced delivery service.

Do we provide a design or installation service?
The Bungalow & Villa Product guide has a comprehensive selection of renovation products that are available. However, we have access to many more products and we are able to make many timber products such as custom made windows, doors, turnings and mouldings to your specifications.
We do not offer an installation or design service. We are happy to offer general advice but recommend that you engage the services of a professional designer such as an architect or interior designer.
If you require a specific product that is not listed here, please ask us and we will hopefully be able to help. The B&V Joinery Specification Guide details made to order joinery and associated products for all styles of property.
Are your products just for Villas and Bungalows? No. Whilst Bungalow & Villa has gained its reputation for being a specialist supplier of renovation products for Villas and Bungalows, we have many years of experience in making and supplying renovation products for many other styles of houses & homes.
How long will it take to supply my order? Alongside every product listing in this Product Guide is availability. It is our aim to have as many items in stock as possible. If you order a product that is a non stock item, our aim is to obtain it as soon as possible . Occasionally external factors can affect delivery times and it is therefore essential to confirm the lead time at the time of order.
How do I pay for my goods? We accept Cash, Cheques, Eftpos, Visa & Mastercard and Direct Credits to our bank. For specially ordered goods and made to order goods such as joinery, we require a 40% deposit. In these instances we require full payment prior to or upon delivery.

Do you provide a delivery service? Yes. Our delivery service operates throughout most of Auckland from Monday to Friday. Outside of this area we will either courier your order or may be able to deliver by special arrangement. We do charge for delivery and so for small items such as hardware, we will usually courier them to you as it is more cost effective for you.

What about goods that turn out to be faulty or damaged?
In putting this Guide together we have tried to use as much plain English as possible. Sometimes it’s not possible to avoid using jargon or technical terms. However, at the back of this Product Guide, there is a glossary of technical terms. If you are unsure about anything, please ask us as it is in our interests for you to have a clear understanding of what the products and services that we offer are.
Occasionally, goods turn out to be either faulty or damaged. When this does happen, we are keen to ensure that the problem is resolved quickly with the minimum fuss and inconvenience. At the point of accepting goods, either on delivery or at our premises, it is important that you inspect the goods to ensure that there are no obvious signs of damage. If you have a query or claim about a damaged or faulty product, please call us at the earliest opportunity on 0800 428642 from landlines or 09 846 1502 from mobiles, quoting the invoice number on your receipt. This will help us identify your product quickly.
What if I need to cancel my order or return some goods? We will always do our best to accommodate any requests to return unwanted goods or to make a cancellation to a confirmed order. In these cases we follow these conditions. a) b)

All goods returned for credit must be accompanied by a copy of the relevant invoice. If you wish to return a product that we normally carry in stock that is not faulty or damaged, we will accept it for credit subject to a re-stocking charge. In these instances, we require that it is in its original packaging or in a condition that we see fit for resale and the product is returned within 7 days. For goods that we do not stock, we will accept them for return provided that we can return them to the original supplier. In these instances there will usually be a restocking charge. For goods that have been made to order (either by Bungalow & Villa or another manufacturer) it is unlikely that they can be returned for credit at all. Please note that this also applies to products listed in this Product Guide that are made to order. If you are ordering goods that are specially made to your requirements, it is therefore important to ensure that they are what you want and the specifications on our order form are correct. Please note that many door & window furniture and hardware finishes are specially made to to order. In general, Polished Brass & Satin Chrome are in stock and can be returned. We will advise you if the finish that you require is returnable. If you wish to cancel an order for goods that have not yet been supplied, the above conditions a), b) & c) may still apply. In order to avoid confusion, any order cancellation will only be accepted with a written confirmation.

CARE OF TIMBER PRODUCTS Timber is a natural product, which is not only attractive but extremely versatile to work with. It’s no surprise that despite many other materials being available, timber is still as popular as ever. By following some ‘common sense’ guidelines and some on going care, timber joinery, mouldings, turnings & other renovation products will give many years of faithful service.
Intended Use It is important that the joinery or renovation product that you are purchasing is suitable for the intended end use. Some joinery will perform better and last longer in certain locations. For example, panel doors perform best when they are not exposed to the weather. Placing your joinery in an unsuitable location may void your warranty. Please ask our sales personnel for advice before placing your order if you are unsure about the best product for your particular application.
Site Storage Exterior Joinery Always store Joinery units upright and in a dry ventilated environment. Un-primed Joinery units require at least 1 coat of an oil based primer immediately upon reaching site prior to storage. Bungalow & Villa provide a priming service if required.
Interior Joinery Always store Joinery units upright and in a dry ventilated environment away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Special care should be taken on sites with heavy masonry content (i.e. concrete block / slab construction) as moisture from surrounding masonry will be absorbed by raw timber products, compromising directional stability (warping) of components. For the same reasons avoid excessive heat sources such as direct sun light or closed dry rooms.
Mouldings, Turnings & Other Timber Renovation Products All Mouldings and Timber products should always be stored in a dry ventilated environment away from direct sunlight. Mouldings should also be stored off the ground on a level surface.
Priming / Sealing Exterior Joinery Bungalow & Villa recommends purchasing all exterior joinery products Factory Primed / Sealed. Use only premium quality oil-based alkyd primers and sealers. Within 4 weeks of receiving your joinery, you will need to apply a minimum of 2 successive coats (preferably oil-based enamels) to all primed surfaces, paying special attention to all ‘End Grain’ surfaces. These are usually the tops and bottoms of doors and window sashes. These areas are where a large percentage of moisture uptake occurs and causes the most common of problems: swelling, shrinkage and joint failure.

Interior Joinery For un-primed Joinery, prime/seal all 6 surfaces of the product immediately upon reaching site. Follow on with the procedures outlined above as for exterior joinery.
Mouldings, Turnings & Other Timber Renovation Products For all Mouldings, Turnings and other Timber products , prime/ seal all 6 surfaces of the product immediately upon reaching site. Follow on with the procedures outlined above as for Joinery products. All cuts should be sealed prior to installation. For LOSP treated products that are for exterior use, cuts will need to have an application of a timber preservative such as ‘Metelex’.
Stain Quality Products The above guidelines should also be followed for stain quality products. Exterior wood stains permeate the surface and work primarily by shedding liquid water from a water repellant surface. As a result, they perform best on vertical surfaces. When used on near horizontal surfaces, they can be less effective and have a shorter life.
Timber Treatments Softwoods, such as Radiata Pine require treatment with a preservative if they are to be used outside. Furthermore, different applications require different levels of treatment. Our product codes indicate whether a product is treated by a suffix ‘T’. The treatment processes that we use are appropriate for the application of each product. LOSP H3.1 Treated products will only accept an oil based Alkyd primer. Acrylic based primers will not fully adhere to the solvent based LOSP treatment. Successive top coats may be acrylic or water based paints. If you are unsure of the treatment value of your product, please ask us prior to priming. Cedar (while appearing soft) is technically a ‘hard wood’ and does not require treatment and is generally our preferred timber for window sashes and door leaves.
Installation All Bungalow & Villa products require installation by suitably qualified personnel. Incorrect installation will result in disappointing and poor performance along with a shortened life expectancy of the product concerned.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS The building and construction industry has a lot of terms of the trade or jargon. The glossary of terms has been put together to help take away some of the mystery. If there is something that you don’t understand, please ask -we will be more than happy to explain anything that causes confusion.
TIMBER JOINERY Awning or Top Hung:
Open out window sash, top hung on butt hinges or fitted with friction stays to push outwards. Friction stays used if lower sashes are opening.
Bay Window:
Horizontal member of varying widths within a door.
Mortice and Tenon Joint:
A recess formed in one member to receive a projection or tenon in another member.
A window that projects outwards from a wall. Various shapes exist, such as : Splay Bay, Square or 90o Bay, Segmental Bay (maybe termed as a Circular or Bow Window if sill front is curved).
Mullion:
Borrowed Lite:
Muntin:
Intermediate vertical member of a joinery frame dividing sashes, doors and sidelights.
A window or glazed area situated in an internal wall to admit daylight from an adjoining room , corridor, hallway or an enclosed lightwell.
A vertical member within a door or wall that divides panels.
Casement or Side Hung:
Pivoted sash on a horizontal axis at centre of height. Top half opens inwards, bottom half opens outwards.
Open out window sash side hung on butt hinges or sometimes fitted with friction stays top and bottom.
Clerestory Window (clear-storey window):
A window placed high in a wall that projects above the roof line of an adjoining part of the building.
Door:
The inner component of a door unit which is glazed or paneled and hung.
Dormer Window:
A window projecting through the plane of the roof, set vertically with cheeks ( side walls ) and its’ own roof.
Double – hung:
Pivot hung:
Sash:
The inner or working part of a window which is glazed and hung or fixed.
Sliding – folding:
Commonly known as Bi-folding. One or more sets ( pairs ) of doors or sashes hinged together that slide and fold within the frame supported by overhead rollers and bottom guides.
Stile:
Vertical side members of a door or sash.
Top Rail:
Horizontal top member or a door or sash.
Vertically sliding upper and lower sashes counter balanced by weights or spiral (spring) balances. A more economical option is a single hung which has one sash fixed in place.

Window Sill-Board:
Fanlight Sash:
Window Sill:
A groove cut into the underside of a projecting moulding or sill to cause rainwater to drip to the ground. Also known as “top-light” or “vent-light”. Top hung and open outwards usually above casements, fixed glazing or doors for added light and ventilation.
Frame:
Intermediate horizontal member of a joinery frame generally above doors or casement hung sashes and fanlights or top-lights. The internal top member of a Window Sill and is fitted after window installation. The bottom member of a joinery frame fixed to the building that the sash closes onto.
MOULDINGS
The outer part of a window or door unit that consists of Jambs, Head and Sill, and is fixed to the building. An internal door unit generally has no sill.
Architrave:
Glazing Bar:
Architrave block:
Divides panes of glass within a sash or door generally up to 35mm in width. Sometimes called an Astragal.
Head:
The top member of a joinery frame fixed to a lintel or building.
Horizontal sliding:
Horizontal sliding sashes or doors within a joinery frame generally on sill tracks and head guides. In some cases sashes and doors slide over the outside faces of the building.
Horn or Joggle:
Decorative shaped extension to the bottom of the stile of upper double hung sashes.
Jamb:
The side member of a joinery frame fixed to stud framing or the building.

A moulding surrounding a door or window opening. Square block with turned centre used at the intersection of head and jamb architraves as an alternative to a mitre finish.
Bevel:
A surface that meets another at an angle less than 90o.
Bolection Moulding:
A moulding rebated to cover the edge of a frame.
Ceiling Batten:
A colonial profiled timber strip covering ceiling board joins generally 300mm or 1 foot apart.
Chamfer:
A corner or angle cut at 45o. A stopped Chamfer is stopped with a splayed or moulded cut leaving the portion not chamfered of rectangular form.

A moulding at the junction of a wall and ceiling of timber, plaster or pressed metal. Also on the exterior of a building as a projecting moulding marking the junction of wall and roof.
Label Mould:
HARDWARE Escutcheon:
A decorative cover plate for key holes, generally round or oval, and in some cases has an additional swinging cover plate to hide the key hole.
A projecting moulding on the face of an exterior wall over the head of a door or window.
Fitch Fastener:
Rebate:
Flush Bolt:
Catch used to secure double-hung sashes at meeting rails.
A stepped recess along the edge of a workpiece or component. Also known as Rabbet.
Slide or lever action bolt recessed flush into face of a door, sash or gate to secure in place.
Skirting:
Mortice Lock:
Decorative or plain dressing board used to cover the junction between an interior floor and wall.
FRET / TURNED & DECORATIVE PRODUCTS
Latch and keyed lock that fits into a mortice in the edge of a door. Has varying levels of security depending upon locking mechanism i.e levers or pins.
Quadrant Stay:
Top of a picket or post, cut or turned to the shape of an Acorn.
Crescent shaped stay with a wing nut for locking. Used mainly on fanlight or top-hung sashes.
Baluster:
Rim Lock:
Acorn Top:
A short post, one of a series supporting a handrail. ( series of balusters called a Balustrade ).
Lock fixed to face of door at edge with striker on the jamb.
Dentil:
One of row of small tooth like blocks that form part of a classical cornice.
A shaped metal bracket that is fixed to the inside bottom rail of a doublehung window’s lower sash to aid lifting of the sash.
Eaves Bracket:
Spur Fastener:
An ormanental bracket used on the underside of boxed eaves.
Hook and Strike type catch to latch awning hung type sashes.
Finial:
Barrel bolt or Necked Bolt:
A formal ornament at the top of a Canopy, Gable, Pinnacle etc.
Fretwork:
A carved or cut ornamental feature or pierced ornamental grille.
Fretwork Lace:
Detailed fret cut boarding over head at verandah boundry.
Newel:
Sash Lift:
Straight or necked sliding shoot type bolt for fixing door, sash or gate into place. Face fixed to door, sash etc.
Flush Slide Bolt:
Same format as the Barrel / Necked Bolt but barrel portion on reverse of face plate.
GLASS / GLAZING
An upright post forming part of the balustrade at the foot or head of a stair or at a point of change of direction.
Annealed Glass:
Spindle:
Toughened Glass:
Ornamental turned spindle used in overhead verandah dressing ( sometimes in place of cut fretwork )
Tear / Acorn Drop:
Ornamental turned spindle used in conjunction with fretwork verandah details.
Verandah Paling:
Flat decorative fret cut boarding used in exterior ( sometimes interior ) balustrade between handrail and bottom rail.
Wainscotting:
Wood lining, usually paneled, applied to interior walls.
Standard float glass with no extra treatment given. Annealed float glass that is heat tempered for strength and equal to Grade A safety glass.
Laminated Glass:
Grade A safety glass or acoustic glass .Two layers of glass laminated together by a PVB interlayer. Also can be a feature or coloured glass ( that cannot be toughened )but needs to be rated for safety in accordance with the relevant standard.
Obscure:
Glass that one cannot see through. For privacy, bathrooms etc.
Putty faced:
The term used for glass held into a glazing rebate in door, sash or frame by putty.
Fixed Glazing or F.G:
Directly glazed glass into a joinery frame, where no sash or door is present. Usually the glass is held in by a timber bead but in some cases can be putty faced.
