Page 2 Remembering Mac Bailey Lion Malcolm “Mac” Bailey, 68, died September 29 at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Mac, a Georgia native, retired from the Central Intelligence Agency after a 28-year career. Lion Mac joined the St Petersburg Evening Lions Club and later the St Petersburg Lions Club where he served as a member of the board of directors. Lion Mac was a recipient of Lions Clubs International’s highest honor, the Melvin Jones Fellowship, for his outstanding spirit of volunteerism and leadership. Lion Mac was also chairman of the Lions used eyeglass program and collected a record number of eyeglasses for use in third-world countries. Mac was also named “Volunteer of the Year” several times from Lakeview Fundamental Elementary School. The St Petersburg Lions Club sends our deepest sympathies and prayers to Bernadette and his family. St Pete Lions Regular Club Meetings – VISITORS WELCOME! All regularly scheduled meetings of our Lions Club are generally held at our beach house facility located at 9300 West Gulf Blvd. on Sunset Beach in Treasure Island, FL 33706. We routinely meet on the first three Wednesdays each month at 6:30 p.m. The first Wednesday of each month is our Sight Conservation and Activities Planning meeting; the second Wednesday of the month is our social meeting, generally with a guest speaker; and the third Wednesday of the month is our Board of Directors’ meeting. NOTE: During the month of November and December 2007, the board meetings have been moved up one week to the second Wednesday so that the meetings will not interfere with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. There will be no Lions meetings on the third Wednesdays of November and December. We welcome all members and guests to all of our Club meetings. The cost of the meal is generally $8.

DO WE HAVE A PARADE? A ROARING One more time our beloved Santa Parade has been rescued from obscurity. The St Petersburg Lions have a major co-sponsor due to the involvement of Peter Sylvestre, Regional Manager of WaMu (Washington Mutual Banks. Mr. Sylvestre made the announcement October 28, 2007, officially joining with the Lions to co-sponsor the parade. Mayor Rick Baker thanked WaMu and the Lions Club for their roles in preserving the 80 year old annual tradition. Thank You WaMU! The parade will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2007. It will originate around 7 th Street and Central Avenue and end in the North Shore Pool parking lot. All participants are asked to be on or near the Lions Float no later than 9:30 a.m. If possible, try to arrange a pick-up at the North Shore Pool parking lot. Better yet, consider leaving a car near North Shore Pool. October Sight News The October Sight Committee reviewed 115 applications for assistance. Three of the applicants were disqualified for assistance because they had already received glasses within the past year. Sixteen applicants who already had prescriptions were referred to LensCrafters. LensCrafters provides free eyeglasses to our St Pete Lions Club sight program. If the application is for an eye exam and glasses, the applicants are referred to Dowdy Optical. Our Club pays Dowdy $60 for each applicant. Last month we referred 96 cases to Dowdy.

On Friday, October 26, 2007, under the leadership of Co-Presidents Nick Barnett and Amanda Arridson, and faculty advisor Mary Ann Quartetti, 34 LEO from St. Petersburg High School are going to the Lions' Camp in Lake Wales to set up Halloween Festival, "Haunted Trail" at the Lions' Camp. This is a big fund raiser for the Florida Lions' Camp This year St. Petersburg High School LEO Charles C. Mattern will be: "LOUIE the LION " in the Santa parade. Lion Membership During our October board meeting, Membership Chairman Lou Cantrell inducted our newest Lion. Lion John Carson, Jr., enthusiastically accepted membership in our St Petersburg Lions Club and readily agreed to be our new webmaster. Let's all make an extra effort to attend our meetings, introduce ourselves, and welcome all of our new members and applicants. Lions Orientation Meeting A Success The St Pietersburg Lions Club hosted a special Lions orientation with presentations by Lions Ed Henderson, Bob Fulks, and Lou Cantrell at the Lions Beach House on October 10, 2007. The orientation was very well attended and everyone heard at least one thing they did not know about Lionism. Special thanks go to Lion Debbie Hietala who prepared a very tasty black bean soup with yellow rice with Cuban sandwiches. November Birthdays We have two birthdays to celebrate this month. If you happen to see any of the Lions listed, give them a good slap on the back and wish them a happy birthday! Nov 11 Nov 17

When little Johnny received his plate, he started eating right away. "Johnny wait until we say our prayer." "I don't have to," The boy replied. "Of course, you do," his mother insisted. "We say a prayer before eating, at our house." "That's at our house," Johnny explained. "But this is Grandma's house and she knows how to cook!
