There's A New Elf in Town by Jaycey Fite

Every year exactly one month before Christmas Eve Santa has a choosing of his new elves. This year he is picking 10 new ones to help him prepare for the holiday. If you want to help Santa you have to send your name to the North Pole and explain why you would want to help Santa and his reindeer during the busiest time of the year. Tonight at 5 o'clock there will be an announcement on who will be chosen to live at the North Pole and help out before Christmas Eve. It is already 4 o'clock, so I pick up my friend Thomas that also sent his in and we head off to hopefully receive good news! As soon as we get there, (which was right on time) Santa and his reindeer are there greeting people and giving out candy canes. All of a sudden we hear this loud ringing noise coming from this huge bell, warning everyone that it is time for the announcements. Long story short, Thomas and I were both accepted to go live at the North Pole! The excitement was unbearable! As soon as we got to the North Pole you should've seen the smile on our faces. It was literally everything you could have imagined. From all the snow, toys, and people running around playing games. On day one, we learned the basics about where everything was, how to make toys and what to do when you're finished with your toy. After days and days of making toys for little boys and girls your hands and fingers began to get so sore. Being an elf isn't easy that's for sure. It is a lot of work and responsibility. Little boys and girls depend on you for their Christmas presents and then most importantly, Santa is depending on you and you definitely do not want to disappoint him. But all in all, it isn't so bad. I have made a lot of friends and a lot of toys haha. I learned how to make a rocking chair along with a huge tree house. Are you proud? The food is delicious and my room is pretty cool. It is full of reindeer and Santa stuff and my roommate is pretty nice. Thomas is enjoying it too. We are partners in all of our projects. I miss you guys so much though. I get to come home on December 26th. I'm beyond ready to get home and see everyone. Well, as much as I would love to keep writing, Santa has me on a tight leash... Busy, Busy, Busy! I'll write you soon. Tell everyone I said hello! Love you dearly, Buddy

Cocoa Anonymous by Eden Jordan

"Yes, thanks, I'll take another Cocoa on the 'mallows please." One hour and SEVERAL hot chocolates later.... "I'd like my usual Vinny. What do you mean I'm cut off for the night?! I'm the head elf at Santa's workshop for bear snugglers sake!" As you have already been informed, this is no ordinary elf. This elf is Gumdrop Buttons. He is the head elf at Santa's workshop. Mr. Buttons has always enjoyed cocoa... perhaps a little too much. This affliction has led him from Cocoa Anonymous meetings to Chocotine patches and even interventions with his boss and coworkers. His problem aside, Gumdrop is enjoying his last night off before the Christmas season begins and he is stuck at his desk or in the factory for over a month. After Gumdrop is denied more hot chocolate for over forty minutes, he is escorted out of the fine establishment. Gumdrop, unconscious in the arms of his escorts, is thrown in a snow drift. When he awakes, Gumdrop realizes he is lying in an empty reindeer stall. Well, empty if you don't count the filthy hay around him. This stall seemed to have been abandoned. Everywhere he looked there were spider webs, grime, and what he guessed were...old reindeer droppings. Gumdrop began to gag as he tried to lift himself into an upright position. His attempts to right himself were cut short when he realized he had been tied tightly with a very uncomfortable rope that seemed to be drenched in something fowl. Gumdrop cried out for help for what seemed like an eternity. Soon after, Gumdrop gave up hope of ever being rescued. He didn't know exactly how long he had been lying in this stall but he did know it had been a few hours. Gumdrop was seriously craving a nice hot chocolate. After feeling this way for about another hour he began to have pains throughout his abdomen and chest. That is when Gumdrop came to the terrifying realization that he was entering into withdrawal. Gumdrop was terrified of the situation he was facing. He had heard the horror stories of other elves that have gone through the process. All he could do was wait. -The Next Morning"Well Mr. Buttons, it seems as though you've weathered your detox rather well. Santa will give you the morning off to recover. He sent us here to escort you home. On behalf of the company we would like to say how happy we are that our Commander in Elf is sobered up for the holidays." Gumdrop could only give a faint smile as he was carried home by Prancer and Blitzen.

Christmas Giving by Isaac Kelly

Christmas season is a time of giving, so when I think about Christmas I think about what I would give to each member of my family. My family is made up of my mom, dad, and 3 sisters and their personalities range from person to person. So if I could get each one of my family members one item, no matter what the cost would be, I would get each one of them something that fits their personality. I would start by getting my oldest sister Ilyssa an unlimited amount of clothes from Justice. She loves clothes and her favorite clothing store is Justice. I think that a gift like that would be fitting to get her and would definitely make her very happy. Next, is my sister Isabel. I would get her an unlimited amount of items from the American Girl store. That is her absolute favorite store and she absolutely loves shopping there and playing with her dolls and accessories. This gift would great for her and would put a smile on her face. My last and youngest sister is Ireland, if I could get her any gift in the whole world it would be a Christmas trip to Disney World. This is her favorite place to go, no other place in the whole world makes her happier and as a big brother that is my favorite thing to do, make my sisters happy. Now moving on to my parents, starting with my father; if I could get him anything in the whole world it would be a red 98 Jeep Wrangler. I would get him this because he's always loved that model Jeep and had one before my mom made him sell it. She thought it was too dangerous for me to be riding in. So if I could get him one gift that is what it would be. Now, on to my mom, my mother is one of the most loving and caring people that you will ever meet and would be willing to do anything for our family. Four kids in our family! I know that can be very stressful. So for her gift, I would like to send her on a stress free trip to the Bahamas, where she could get away from all the arguing and fighting that we kids do. The family that I am in is perfect and could not get any better. I love all of them equally and love this time of the year where we can come together as a family and celebrate a holiday as great as Christmas. Merry Christmas!

The Best Gift Ever The most important gift that I have ever received is simply seeing my family every year at Christmas. To me Family is the most important thing; they're always there for me no matter what. Getting to see everyone that I love gathered around having a good time is all I can ever ask for. As I've gotten older I realized that tomorrow is a gift and that it's not a promise. After losing a loved one it really makes me appreciate the little things in life. My family has overcome so many obstacles, which has only made us stronger as a whole. I hope this Christmas will be more special than any of them because for many of us it could possibly be our last one. Don't get me wrong I love giving and receiving gifts but nothing brings me more joy than getting to spend time with my family. Every year my family and I get together on Christmas Eve and watch traditional Christmas movies like The Christmas Story, or Christmas Vacation. Then we eat Christmas dinner and sit around and talk, then before we go our separate ways we open gifts around the tree and say our goodbyes. And that's my favorite gift that I've ever received. ~Hannah Zornes

Better than Toys R Us by Brooklynn Butler

Knowing me, if I owned a toy store it would be like the Disney Store in the malls. Songs like Let it Go, Do You Want to Build a Snowman, and other Disney songs would be heard as soon as you walked in. My store would have every toy you could ever imagine, especially Disney toys, because duh who doesn't love Disney! The shelves would be stocked with millions of American girl dolls and tons of accessories to go with them! Walking down the aisles would also include tons of Barbie's because I know my childhood wouldn't be the same without them. Besides the toys, the store would include a little ice cream shop, with gluten free ice cream available. Flavors like Rocky Road, Superman, and for all my coffee lovers out there, there'd be Vanilla Bean, Mocha, etc.! Obviously no ice cream store would complete without a candy shop! Which would include Reese's, and Kit Kats, Twix's, and York patties, you name it, you'll see it. I'm a kid at heart so I all my employees would dress up as Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Elsa and Anna, and so on. Mostly because as a kid I loved going to Disney World and seeing all the Disney characters so I thought it would be nice for kids to experience a little taste of Disney World when they come in my toy store. 9

If I Were a Christmas Tree... by Lexi Adkins

If I were a Christmas tree I would want to be a real tree. I have been handpicked from a Christmas tree farm that had raised me well; I am a big, strong, healthy tree. The most beautiful evergreen color, tall and fluffy I will be. When someone takes me home I want many white Christmas lights strung around me with care. Strung from branch to branch I want strands of white beaded pearls looped around and around. Glowing brighter than Rudolph's nose, I would have many big shiny red bulbs, ones with sparkles and sequins covering every empty space on me. I would have silver tinsel from top to bottom hanging to the ground. Every angle you turn you watch them glow and gleam beside the bright Christmas lights. Hanging around I would have long silver icicle strands flowing from my branches. To top me off I would have a big bright shining star looking down on the rest of the house. My tallest peak decorated with the most love. Under my decorations by my cute little trunk I will have a soft fluffy red and green tree skirt wrapped around me tight. Nestled with care all of the family's presents are placed with beautiful wrapping paper, bows, and ribbons.

New Year, New Me! by Madison Marzicola I always come up with around 5 New Year's resolutions, but I never follow through and I kind of get mad at myself. However I'm going to tell you guys my resolutions for 2016 so you can help me stay on track with them. I have three that I'm going to try to follow through with this year. My first resolution is to be more tolerant of things. People tell me I'm too uptight and let every little thing get to me. Yes I can't stand repeated noises like tapping a pencil on a desk or people trying to beat box. Also I really can't tolerate people that think they know each and every detail about something, but don't. My second resolution is to be more forward with people. I can help other people, but for me, I lose everything. Like a guy for instance, I like them, I don't know what to talk about. I can have everything set up to say it, I see them and lose it, it goes away. To where? I don't even know. I need to fix it before it's too late, I'm scared of being rejected, and ruining any connection we already have. My friends are very comforting and try to help but last minute, I go to talk to them, I chicken out. My third and final resolution is to be nicer and try to stay out of drama. It seems my family is the worst for making up stuff about other people and telling someone what they thought they heard. It has tore my family up I barely stay in touch with them. And they always seem to drag me and my mom into the mix, when we have nothing to do with it. So I'm done, I'm sticking to my very limited amount of friends and my favorite cousin Kayla. Hopefully if it ever comes down to it, we can make up. The amount of drama that goes around this school is scary, The girls are saying "She said this" and the guys are fighting over girls, it's insane. So I'm staying out of all of it, if someone comes to me saying she said this about you, and I'll say, "Ok that's wonderful she cares enough to talk about me." So, that's my plan for my resolutions for the 2016 year I'm going to try to keep up with it, I would say I want to try to lose weight but I say that every year and never go through with it, that's just me! 10

The Life of Jim by Levi Benltey

The gingerbread man jumped out of the oven and ran back to the alley in between the backsplash and the bread box. Hopefully Mr. Masher wouldn't find him here while he caught his breath. For the third time this month Jim had been scooped up off the countertop while running errands for his boss, Candy Cane Carrie. Jim's irritation with her grew for sending him out to collect all of her irrelevant things and then expecting him to also keep up on paperwork, scheduling and answering the seemingly teleporting telephone that he could never keep up with. Candy Cane Carrie is a big pop star. She had endorsements from several pop record producing companies like Coke, Pepsi and even Mountain Dew. Some of her chart topping songs included "Crack that tap", "Fizzle" and "Don't Go Flat". Her performances and amazing vocals have made her very famous and rich. As you may know, famous people stay very busy. So when she posted a job for a new assistant, Jim the Gingerbread man thought this would be an easy, enjoyable job that would have flexible hours and simple tasks. At first it was and then he has become piled with more and more hours and "favors" until he barely has a second to himself, so much for flexible hours. And if that wasn't bad enough, the pay is nowhere near what he expected to have working with a superstar who makes so much money. He didn't really think about the salary of a personal assistant until he already had the job, and now he is starting to regret it. He only gets paid 100 dollars a week. With such a small amount of money to live on he doesn't have anything that he would like in life. He lives in a very run down kitchen cabinet with loud neighbors who clank and make noise all the time, he can't afford to buy any new gum drops or icing to wear, and he has to walk all the way across Kitchenville to get to Candy Cane Carrie's record company. Since he is always walking down the countertops, he gets scooped up like 2 times a week and nearly burns to death in the oven before getting out!! He's so sick of almost dying on a weekly basis! Who knew a personal assistant would have such a dangerous job? Unfortunately, the danger of being cooked and eaten is something that all gingerbread people have had to deal with since the beginning. In his spare time that he rarely gets, Jim dreams of someday becoming rich and moving to one of those big, beautiful gingerbread houses on the nice side of the kitchen that have the perfectly manicured peppermint gardens and the big windows with views of the dining room. He wants a gingerbread family, a dog, and to just be successful in general. But time is on his side, he is young and he just asked his whole family for lottery tickets for Christmas, so hopefully he will get lucky (:
