From the Desk of Fr. Chris We have the most popular reading for weddings as our second reading. I think because we hear it all the time at weddings these words from Paul lose their punch. This love he is talking about goes to the core of being a disciple. It’s how a disciple stands in relationship to our God, to our world, to every individual we encounter. Love is how we relate, not so much to those for whom we have affection, admiration, or friendship (that’s easy), but to those with whom we have friction, disagree, or just can’t stand. Paul says to do “all things in love.” Every encounter is to be “in love.” And what is love? Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, it is not pompous. It is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. So, how are we doing with that?

Fr. Chris
