The Grosvenor Hotel How it all began… The Grosvenor Hotel was brought into the Richardson Group in the Autumn of 2012, taking the total number of hotels in the Group to five. Situated in a prime position, just a short, leisurely walk from Torre Abbey Gardens and Torquay’s main seafront and marina, The Grosvenor Hotel is ideally located for getting around the Torbay area, the nearby historic fishing port of Brixham, delightful Dartmouth and neighbouring Paignton. If you would rather leave the car behind, all areas are accessible – on foot, by bus, by train or, a great way to travel in the south west, by boat. Having started life as two Victorian Villas, The Glefinnan and The Roslin Hall, they began trading as hotels around 110 years ago and were then joined together to create The Grosvenor some years later. The building has striking Victorian architecture and many of the bedrooms still retain their elegant Victorian proportions and features as does the ground floor hallway. This spacious 47 bedroom hotel was recently awarded Child Friendly Matters as part of a much needed makeover, making The Grosvenor Hotel an ideal choice for families and those wishing to explore Torbay, the delights of a sandy beach and the many local attractions. The Grosvenor is a 3 Star hotel.

So many places to see… Set in a wonderful location, surrounded by beautiful gardens and just a stone’s throw from the Torquay seafront, The Grosvenor is an ideal base for anyone wanting to explore the 22 miles of beaches, hidden coves and stunning coastline that make up The English Riviera. The hotel is within easy driving distance of the historic cities of Exeter and Plymouth, where you can shop ‘till you drop. Closer still, you can enjoy the traditional seaside town centre of Torquay, its harbour and picturesque views across the bay. Neighbouring Paignton and Brixham also offer great days out, as does Dartmouth which you can reach by water from Torquay harbour. Torquay was the home of the writer Agatha Christie who was born in the town and lived there during her early years. The town contains an “Agatha Christie Mile”, a tour with plaques dedicated to her life and work. Her home at Greenway is just a short journey and open to visitors throughout the season. There are numerous English Heritage sites close by to discover, including the romantic ruin of Berry Pomeroy Castle, the Norman motte and bailey castle at Totnes, Dartmouth Castle on the edge of the river and there’s the opportunity of a guided tour around Britain’s most important Stone Age heritage site, Kents Cavern. For steam and/or railway enthusiasts, we’ve the Paignton and Dartmouth steam railway.
