C on fession Call to Confession Corporate Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, in Your gracious presence we confess our sin and the sin of this world. Although Christ is among us as our peace, we are a people divided against ourselves as we cling to the values of a broken world. The profit and pleasures we pursue lay waste the land and pollute the seas. The fears and jealousies that we harbor set neighbor against neighbor. We abuse Your good gifts of imagination and freedom, of intellect and reason, and have turned them into bonds of oppression. Lord, have mercy upon us; heal and forgive us. Set us free to serve You in the world as agents of Your reconciling love in Jesus Christ.

C elebr ation Welcome Anthem of Thanksgiving Come, Ye Thankful People, Come Mack Wilberg, arr. Children in grades one through six are invited to come forward.

Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home: All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin; God, our Maker, doth provide for our wants to be supplied: Come to God’s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home. All the world is God’s own field, fruit unto his praise to yield; Wheat and tares together sown, unto joy or sorrow grown; First the blade, and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear: Lord of harvest grant that we wholesome grain and pure may be.

For the Lord, our God, shall come, and shall take his harvest home; From his field shall in that day all offenses purge away; Give his angels charge at last in the fire the tares to cast, But the fruitful ears to store in his garner evermore. Even so, Lord, quickly come to thy final harvest-home; Gather thou thy people in, free from sorrow, free from sin; There, forever purified, in thy presence to abide: Come with all thine angels, come, raise the glorious harvest home.

Prayers of Thanksgiving and the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Re sp on se Thanksgiving Offering Anthem Festival Piece on St. Anne Eugene Butler

O God our Help in ages past, our Hope for years to come, Our Shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home. Before the hills in order stood or earth received her frame, From everlasting Thou art God to endless years the same. A thousand ages in Thy sight are like an evening gone, Short as the watch that ends the night, before the rising sun. Time like an ever-rolling stream bears all its sons away, They fly forgotten as a dream dies at the opening day. O God our Help in ages past, Our Hope for years to come, Be Thou our Guard while life shall last, and our eternal home. Amen.

Prayer of Dedication Affirmation of Faith The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father by Whom all things were made; Who for us, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, and the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And He shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead, Whose kingdom shall have no end. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets. And we believe one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

OPPORTUNITIES TO RETURN THANKS Food donations will be given to the Salvation Army Food Kitchen. Food donations will be given to the Salvation Army Food Kitchen. Today’s offering will be used to support the work of two ministries: the Goodland Presbyterian Children’s Home for boys is in Hugo, Oklahoma, and Presbyterian Children’s Home and Services whose group homes are throughout Texas. These ministries are fulfilling Christ’s call to care for the neglected and abused. Your contribution will help continue this vital work. Goodland Presbyterian Children’s Home is a Christian residential home for the homeless, dependent, neglected and/or pre-delinquent boys, ages 6-18 years. One of its many goals at the Home is to instill in the boys a love for God. The youth are actively involved in daily Bible study, Christian fellowship and worship, attending services in various Presbyterian churches in the area as well as participating in Bible study and worship services on the Goodland campus. Additionally, they participate in recreation activities and public schools in the community. Located in a rural setting on 390 acres, Goodland raises approximately 60 head of cattle and meets its own beef needs with home grown calves. Due to the large acreage, the boys have an opportunity to become active participants in the future Farmers of America (FFA) agricultural program. Goodland provides an activity-based program for their boys including horseback riding, swimming, and a physical fitness program. There is close monitoring of academic progress, as well as a loving, family-like setting in which to learn life-changing social skills. Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Presbyterian Children’s Services officially became one agency effective January 1, 2002. Children and families from a variety of backgrounds and experiences come to Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services seeking help. Its mission is providing Christ-centered care for children and youth, ages 6-17, who have experienced abuse, neglect, abandonment, or some other family crisis. Though a variety of residential care programs, therapeutic foster homes, and outreach services, this Christcentered ministry will touch the lives of over 1,000 children and families in need this year alone. By God’s grace, in and through Jesus Christ, many children are transformed by this ministry. Thank you for your support.

DAYS OF PRAYER: THANKSGIVING DAY & NEW YEAR’S DAY BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - A PROCLAMATION “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord.” Across the uncertain ways of space and time our hearts echo those words, for the days are with us again when, at the gathering of the harvest, we solemnly express our dependence upon Almighty God. The final months of this year, now almost spent, find our Republic and the nations joined with it waging a battle on many fronts for the preservation of liberty. In giving thanks for the greatest harvest in the history of our nation, we who plant and reap can well resolve that in the year to come we will do all in our power to pass that milestone; for by our labors in the fields we can share some part of the sacrifice with our brothers and sons who wear the uniform of the United States. It is fitting that we recall now the reverent words of George Washington, “Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection,” and that every American in his own way lift his voice to Heaven. I recommend that all of us bear in mind this great Psalm: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me I the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou annointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Inspired with faith and courage by these words, let us turn again to the work that confronts us in this time of national emergency : in the armed services and the merchant marine; in factories and offices; on farms and in the mines; on highways, railways and airways; in other places of public service to the Nation; and in our homes. NOW, THEREFORE, I, FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT, President of the United States of America, do hereby invite the attention of the people to the joint resolution of Congress approved December 26, 1941, which designates the fourth Thursday in November of each year as thanksgiving Day’ and I request that both Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1942, and New Year’s Day, January 1, 1943, be observed in prayer, publicly and privately. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States of America to be affixed. DONE at the City of Washington this eleventh day of November, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and forty-two, and of the Independence of the United States of America the one hundred and sixty-seventh.
