THEME FOR THE CHURCH YEAR – October 2015 – September 2016 – Being God’s People in God’s World: Living the Sacrificial Life – Giving Freely; Serving Fully: Living Faithfully

The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out. Proverbs 10:9 – Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 – But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15 Officers on duty Counsellors on duty

CALL TO WORSHIP HYMN OF PRAISE

-No. 1 -

God is Here!

1. God is here! As we your people Meet to offer praise and prayer, May we find in fuller measure what it is in Christ we share. Here as in the world around us, All our varied skills and arts Wait the coming of the Spirit Into the open minds and hearts.

3. Here our children find a welcome in the Shepherd’s flock and fold; here as bread and wine are taken, Christ sustains us as of old. Here the servants of the Servant seek in worship to explore what it means in daily living To believe and to adore.

2. Here are symbols to remind us Of our life-long need of grace. Here are table, water, pulpit; Here the cross has central place Here in honesty of preaching, Here in silence, as in speech, Here, in newness and renewal, God the Spirit comes to each.

4. Lord of all, of church and kingdom in an age of change and doubt, keep us faithful to the Gospel; Help us work Your purpose out. Here, in this day’s dedication, all we have to give, receive, we, who cannot live without You, We adore You! we believe! [Fred Pratt Green: Tune 87 87 D]

PRAYER OF ADORATION & THANKSGIVING RESPONSIVE READING Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: ALL:

Who is our family? We are family by heritage, by community, by humanity. Who is our sister? Who is our brother? We are brothers and sisters of all for whom Christ died. Who is our child? We are the parents of all children who need care and love and protection. Who is our parent? We are the children, responsible for all the elderly who are vulnerable, weak and lonely. By the grace of God, we will embrace and nurture our family.

SONGS OF WORSHIP Light of the world You stepped down into darkness, Opened my eyes, let me see Beauty that made this heart adore you Hope of a life spent with you. Chorus: Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You're my God. You're altogether lovely, altogether worthy Altogether wonderful to me. Verse 2. King of all days Oh so highly exalted Glorious in heaven above

Humbly You came to the earth You created All for loves sake became poor. Cho: Tag: And I'll never know how much it cost To see my sin upon that cross. {Repeat} Cho: I am the way, the King of the victory I am the truth, the Lord of the harmony I am the light, the light of the world to be. Hosanna! I hold your hand, my friend Hosanna! I give you strength, my friend. Hosanna! You walk the sea, my friend. [OT]Genesis 15: 1-6 [NT] Hebrews 11:8-12 HYMN OF MEDITATION – No. 2 Would you bless our homes and families 1.

Would you bless our homes and families, source of life who calls us here; in our world of stress and tension teach us love that conquers fear. Help us learn to love each other with a love that constant stays; teach us when we face our troubles, love’s expressed in many ways.

2.

When our way is undemanding, let us use the time that’s ours to delight in simple pleasures, sharing joys in gentle hours. When our way is anxious walking and a heavy path we plod, teach us trust in one another and in You, our gracious God.

3. From the homes in which we’re nurtured, with the love that shapes us there, teach us, God, to claim as family every one whose life we share. And through all that life may offer, may we in Your love remain; may the love we share in families be alive to praise Your name. 4. Let us reach beyond the boundaries of our daily thought and care, ‘til the family You have chosen spills its love out everywhere. Help us learn to love each other with a love that constant stays; teach us when we face our troubles, love’s expressed in many ways. [Walter Farquharson – 1971: Tune – 87 87D] SPECIAL ITEM

No. 3 -

Lord Jesus, let these eyes of mine

1 Lord Jesus, let these eyes of mine reflect your beauty and your grace; so joyful and so tender shine that other eyes shall seek your face.

4 And may my hands, which learned their skill at your direction, by your love now deftly moving at your will console, encourage and improve

2 Lord, use my ears, for I rejoice to hear the word of life - with awe I listen for the whispering voice that calls beyond the thunder's roar.

5 So to your throne, O Christ, again my sense of sight and sound I bring and in my mind I let you reign, and with my hands serve you, my king

3 And holy Jesus, set my mind 6 Speak through this voice that you have given, to search for truth and know your way; your love and mercy to proclaim to think upon the good I find, until we join the choirs of heaven to spurn the night and love the day: and sing the glory of your name! [Michael Perry: Tune: 88 88 LM]
