Rolling start.

I would personally like to welcome you to the fourth quarter issue of ‘W Magazine’ the Porsche Centre Willoughby official publication .

2013 has been another exciting year for our Porsche marque. As we approach 45 years as a Porsche Centre I often reflect on previously released models and feel privileged to be here. Thus far, we have introduced the new wide body 911 Carrera 4 series, the Cayenne V8S Diesel and Turbo S, an all new sensational Cayman duo, and the Second Generation Panamera range. 2013 will culminate with the release of our 50th Anniversary 911, the much applauded 911 Turbo & Turbo S and finally the long awaited GT3. In our Q4 issue of W Magazine for 2013, we celebrate all things 911 with a feature on the 50th Anniversary 911, a photo shoot with Porsche Design Sydney featuring our own 911 Carrera S and articles following the 50th Anniversary world celebrations of the 911 including a feature on the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the day Porsche hijacked the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

On the horizon for June 2014 is the much anticipated Macan range, our junior Cayenne, which will increase our overall volume of Porsche sales literally through the roof! As you may have noticed, we commenced major renovations at PCW in October, adding a new level of roof parking and a new upstairs showroom. May I take this opportunity to apologise for any inconveniences whilst we are building, parking may be a little difficult until we utilise the new facilities in March 2014. I do hope we see you during the forthcoming Christmas Holiday period, even if only for a Cafè Car Wash! Regards,

WELCOME TO DRIVING PORSCHE STYLE!

PCW CLIENT RELATIONSHIP CONCIERGE SARAH GALLAGHER

I meant to do that...

The Porsche Sports Driving School at Mt Cotton QLD is the only one of its kind, offering a range of driving experiences to Porsche lovers and enthusiasts. It’s a chance to get a real taste of how it feels to drive the best sports car in the world.

St art yo ur en gi ne s!

As an intro to Porsche I was invited to complete Level 1 Driver Training. Arriving feeling apprehensive, I didn’t know what to expect.

N o ha nd s!

I was warmly welcomed by chief instructor Tomas Mezera, then introduced to other instructors including Carrera Cup drivers Craig Baird and Warren Luff, V8 Supercar driver Steve Johnson, and GT3 Cup’s Andy McElrea; fuelling my excitement by briefing the group for the day ahead. I was placed in a group of girls from other dealerships around Australia. We didn’t lack confidence as we quickly claimed to be the best before the day had even started.

Gett ing verti cal!

During the first exercise, we experienced Porsche’s ABS brakes to their full potential. After a fast lead-up to a wet circuit, we hit the brakes as hard as possible switching between a Cayenne Turbo, Panamera 4S, Boxster S and Carrera S. Initially a little scared I was reassured by the instructor. We hit the brakes harder and faster and I was surprised by the Porsches’ ability to make me feel completely safe and in control when stopping so suddenly. Even with my hands in the air! My confidence boosted, I was eager for more. Next was a motorkhana circuit of sharp turns, weaving and braking. I was nervous but as soon as I started the adrenalin kicked

in and I put my foot down; grinning the whole lap. I didn’t think the day could get better but then we were driven over to the race track where we were taught cornering and braking. I was super excited when I saw the line-up: a new Boxster, Carrera S and a 997 Turbo and felt at ease with the instructors sitting with us through the laps. Even though we had been pushing our limits, we didn’t touch the limits of the Porsches, as was demonstrated by a hot-lap in a 997 GT3. The last thrill was the Skidpan. The course slicked with diesel and water gave us a ‘beginner’ speed. After the first attempt I knew how much fun it was going to be even after a few accidental 180s. Whilst waiting our turn on the skidpan, we were taken on a 4WD lap in a Cayenne. At the end of the track we came across a group of “serious” 4WD’s, who gave us startled looks as the Cayenne rolled down an almost vertical drop with total ease. At the end of the day we hit the motorkhana course one last time to find the fastest driver in the group; the winner walking away with a new Porsche Cayman… on a scale of 1:43! I left the Porsche Sports Driving School exhausted, happy and wanting to do it all over again!

911 911 50 th ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Porsche is celebrating 50 years of 911 with the creation of a special limited edition model based on the Carrera S. Unveiled at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt on September 12, it is now making its way to Australia and expected to arrive here towards the end of the year. 6 - P OR SC H E W I L L OUGH B Y.COM . AU

Like the original, the 50th Anniversary Edition 911 is a coupé with a flat-six rear engine and rear wheel drive; although the anniversary 911 features the wider body normally reserved for the all-wheel drive Carrera 4. This special edition will be limited to 1963 cars, a number that represents the year of the 911 world premiere. Indeed, it was at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1963 that Porsche presented the original model to the public, initially as the type 901. Since then the 911 has evolved without interruption. In the process, the unique character of the 911 has been preserved and its DNA stamped on all Porsche models. This limited edition of the 294 kW (400 hp) 911 Carrera S incorporates key elements that have defined the 911 through its 50 year evolution: for example, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with special tuning to complement the new model’s increased track width and exceptional cornering dynamics; sports exhaust system for a truly fitting emotional sound and special 20-inch wheels which are a visual tribute to the legendary “Fuchs” wheels finished in matte black with machine-polished centres. Furthermore, chrome trim strips on the front air inlets, the fins of the engine compartment grille and the panel between the rear lights add to the distinctive appearance of this limited edition model. Another technical highlight of the car’s equipment is the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) with bi-xenon headlights and dynamic cornering lights.

50 Scan to experience the 911 50th Anniversary Edition in this video.

INSTRUMENTS Until 1967, the digits and increment markings on the black instruments were green and the pointers white, for excellent readability and high functionality.

As a subtle but striking design reference in the Anniversary Edition, they are the same color and are also present in the Sport Chrono clock which forms part of the standard Sport Chrono Package.

P OR SC H E W I L L OUGH B Y.COM . AU - 7

Two unique colours are available for the anniversary 911, a darker Graphite Grey and a lighter Geyser Grey metallic. Black monochrome is also available. Each of the cars has a two-tone 3D-effect badge on the rear lid with the numbers “911 50”. This is repeated in three colour embroidery on the headrest and in two colours as a logo on the tachometer and the aluminium door sill plates. The symbol is also on the cup holder panel together with the limited edition number of each car. Other exterior features include high-gloss window frames and aerodynamic sport design exterior mirrors on the door panels. Tributes to the original 911 exist in the interior as well: green labelling on the instruments with white pointer needles and silver caps on the instrument pivot pins, just like 50 years ago. Another special feature is the centre panels of the leather seats, which are designed with a fabric pattern reminiscent of the “Pepita” tartan design from the 1960s. The full-leather interior is designed in agate grey or black with decorative stitching, some in contrasting colour. The driver and front passenger experience typical 911 driving comfort with 14-way sport seats or optional 18-way sport seats plus. The gear shift or selector lever that matches the decorative panels on the dashboard, doors and centre console in brushed aluminium - comes from Porsche Exclusive. The 911 50th Anniversary Edition sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds (4.3 with PDK) and can reach a top speed of 300 km/h (298 with PDK). The car’s NEDC combined fuel consumption is 9.5 L/100 kms (8.7 with PDK), equating to CO2 emissions of 224 g/km (205 with PDK).

PCW GENERAL MANAGER SE AN LYGO, PREVIEWED THE 911 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION IN PORTUGAL. “What I like about the 50th Anniversary Edition is that overall you can see this is a very special car, from the wheels to the interior. Not just by the badge on the back or the limited edition number but as a package it looks really good.

The most stand-out feature and my favourite, is the 2wd of the 911 Carrera S that this edition is based on, coupled with the wide body shell of the 911 Carrera 4 models.

We are lucky enough to have sold our first 50th Anniversary Edition at PCW but will be bringing in a few more when they’re officially launched towards the end of this year (it’s rumoured to be around late October). From the combinations we can build this special edition, I feel that the darker Graphite Grey will really pay tribute to the 911 generations of 50 years ago.”

ow long have you worked for PCW?

I started working at PCW 6 years ago in August 2007. My busy daily schedule at the dealership combined with the enjoyment I get from working with the best sports cars in the world has meant that this time has passed by very rapidly. I have started planning an addition to my garage to house my long-service gift of a Porsche Boxster in a few years’ time. Now, if I can just get management to approve the gift... How did you find your way here? Prior to starting my career in the automotive industry I spent some years working in the IT departments of a number of large companies - firstly with IBM as a Technology Deployment Coordinator and then as a Systems Analyst with Woolworths. Although enjoying my time in the IT industry I never really developed the same passion for it that I had always had for cars. I viewed Porsche as the pinnacle of the automotive industry so working for Porsche seemed like the perfect plan.

I HAVE STARTED PLANNING AN ADDITION TO MY GARAGE TO HOUSE MY LONG-SERVICE PORSCHE BOXSTER GIFT IN A FEW YEARS TIME. NOW, IF I CAN JUST GET MANAGEMENT TO APPROVE THE GIFT...

A quick letter to Sean Lygo, the General Manager of PCW, and I had my first role as a Porsche Sales Cadet. The next year was spent improving my knowledge of the Porsche model range and working on the showroom floor. During this time I found I was better suited to performing the behind-the-scenes processes that keep the dealership running smoothly and so the Dealership Coordinator role was created. What is the role of a Dealership Coordinator exactly? Even though I’m involved in many aspects of the dealership, my main role is to coordinate the ordering and delivery of all our new and pre-owned Porsches. With an extensive array of options to choose from on our current model vehicles it is critical that the cars are ordered with the correct features to ensure they arrive as per the client’s request. I act as the vehicle stock controller and registration coordinator; assist with the maintenance of the dealership website, create new tools for the salesman to use in their daily roles and perform a sales manager role when required. With my tech background I’m also called upon to fix any IT related issues in the office or answer operational questions on our range of vehicles (see my “Usability Tips” on page 18).

What are your achievements, highlights and future goals with PCW? My main achievement since starting at PCW has been attaining my “Porsche Certified Sales Consultant” accreditation in November 2012 as part of the “Porsche Global Certification System”. This system aims to bolster Porsche’s position as the most professional sales organisation in the world and tested both my product knowledge and ability to manage our client relationships. For someone like me who enjoys driving, every time I jump behind the wheel of another Porsche is a highlight, although the main ones so far have been: 1) Having the opportunity to visit the Porsche factory in Zuffenhausen (Stuttgart) as part of my trip to attend the 981 Boxster launch. This is the headquarters for Porsche and it was amazing to see the precision and efficiency with which they build the world’s most iconic sports cars. 2) Being given the enviable position of escorting a number of PCW’s clients to the Camp 4S ice driving experience in Ivalo, Finland. Drifting a brand new 991 Carrera 4S sideways on Porsche’s very own dedicated

ice lake in -28 degree Celsius temperatures is something that every driving enthusiast should experience at least once. The good news is as the Dealership Coordinator I can organize both experiences for anyone interested! In terms of my future goals at PCW I’m very fond of the comfortable chair in the large office at the end of the showroom (i.e. the General Manager’s office) – we’ll have to see what eventuates. I understand you have a new addition to the Drew family and he’s already sat in his first Porsche? Little Samuel James Drew came into this world on the 19th of May 2013 and is already beginning to appreciate the world of Porsche. He was mesmerized while we were sitting on the couch reading the latest edition of Wheels magazine. He especially liked the story on the Porsche 918 Spyder. Samuel had his first visit to PCW recently and enjoyed himself behind the wheel of a number of our cars. I can see a Porsche go-kart making its way under the Christmas tree in the not too distant future.

THE DAY PORSCHE HIJACKED THE SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE

Scan to watch video

Over 100 Porsche 911s forming a convoy 1.5kms long streamed across Sydney Harbour Bridge on Sunday 15th September as Australia gave its birthday gift to Porsche Germany in recognition of “50 Years of 911”. Lane 2 of the Bridge was closed for the special parade, with the Police Porsche Panamera providing escort for the convoy and the ‘World Tour’ 911 – a pristine 1967 model from the Porsche Museum leading the 911s. “50 Years of 911” celebrations have been held in many major cities all over the world but none have been as ambitious as closing off a section of one of Australia’s busiest roads. The Porsche parade included many rare and exotic Porsches from the second customer 911 delivered into Australia in 1965, to two of the famed 1973 Carrera RS, a svelte white 964 Speedster from 1963 and one of only a few 911 GT2 RS from 2010. The combined value of the convoy was above $15m with some Porsche enthusiasts travelling over 200 kms to take part in the 15m drive from Millers Point ending at Taronga Zoo.

GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED 2OTH ANNIVERSARY

The Festival of Speed is the largest motoring garden party in the world – a unique summer weekend that brings together an impossibly heady mix of cars, stars and motor sport ‘royalty’ to create the largest car culture event in the world.

Marking the first half-century of the Porsche 911 at Goodwood is hugely appropriate in the 20th anniversary year of the Festival of Speed. To date, the legendary sports coupe has featured at every Goodwood Festival, from the first event in 1993, when an unexpectedly high 27,500 enthusiasts turned up, to the 185,000+ visitors that attended the world’s greatest celebration of car culture this year.

PORSCHE SCULPTURE

Scan the above code to get behind the scenes of the Central Feature of this year’s Goodwood FoS: a stunning tribute to 50 years of the Porsche 911 designed by worldrenowned sculptor Gerry Judah. A detailed look at the 112-foot-high sculpture that featured a 1965 911 coupe, a 1972 2.7 RS and a current Porsche 991.

Whether in action in road and race form on the testing 1.16mile Goodwood hill climb, sliding sideways around the gravel Forest Rally Stage, sitting serenely on the Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ Concours Lawn, or as part of the regular Porsche displays, the 911 has played a key role in helping to put the Festival of Speed on the map over the last two decades.

50 YEARS OF THE ICONIC 911 SPORTS CAR

Lord March, thinks of the Porsche 911 as he shares his stories with us.

“It’s one of the world’s great iconic brands, ever since I can remember I’ve always lusted after Porsches and wanted to own one. The first one I owned was a 924 Carerra GT, which was a great car and I’ve had lots of 911’s since. It is one of the great cars and I think the fact that you can see how the DNA runs through the 911, it’s become a better and better more exciting car. Porsche have been very involved with the Festival of speed since year two in 1994. There are few cars in the world that I would want more.”

RACING LEGENDS

Porsche had a major presence at Goodwood this year, with a special focus on the history of its 911. All seven generations of the car were on display including some driven by famous Porsche works drivers including Hans-Joachim Stuck, Jörg Bergmeister, Richard Attwood and Vic Elford.

A WORLD FIRST: MUSIC COMPOSED FOR PIANO AND PORSCHE.

For over 50 years Porsche has been making flat-six engines, and for over 150 years Steinway & Sons has been making pianos.

THE MAKING OF ‘FIRING ORDER 1-6-2-4-3-5’ Daniel Manera, a PHD Student of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, has always been fascinated by both the internal combustion engine and the piano. Both are an amalgamation of well-balanced mechanisms that can respond to input in such a way that the driver/performer can execute actions to such a degree of precision that a distinction between body and instrument becomes difficult to make.

With a time of six minutes and 57 seconds, the super sports car equipped with a hybrid-drive shaved 14 seconds off the previous record. The record, which previously stood for four years, was even broken during the first attempt in the test drive on the morning of September 4. All three drivers – former European Rall Champion Walter Röhrl, Porsche test driver Timo Kluck and Porsche factory driver Marc Lieb were quicker than the existing record for each lap, driving the two 918 Spyder models, and posted lap times of less than seven minutes on numerous occasions. Ultimately, it was Marc Lieb who posted the absolute best time of 6m 57s, driving at an average speed of 179.5 km/h, as measured by independent organisation Wige Solutions. Marcus Schurig, editor-in-chief of sportscar magazine “Sport Auto”, was on hand as an objective observer of the record-breaking runs. The two sports cars, which each deliver an output of 887 bhp (652 kW), were equipped with the optional “Weissach package” to increase the driving dynamics, and fitted with the standard Michelin tyres developed specifically for the 918 Spyder.

DESIGN YOUR LIFE Like all collaborations, what started out as a simple idea soon began to take on a life of its own. Porsche has such a rich design pedigree flowing through almost everything associated with the brand, that such a project was always going to have a very high visual standard to live up to.

Porsche Centre Willoughby partnered with Porsche Design Sydney and together with lifestyle photographer Dean Moncho created some iconic Porsche images as a tribute to 50 years of the 911. 16 - P OR SC H E W I L L OUGH B Y.COM . AU

Luckily Alexandra Bromley, a part time model and Porsche Centre Willoughby employee was on hand to lend her 6 feet of curves and angles to the project too. “Her high fashion look mirrored the strong lines and dramatic shapes of the 911 perfectly” said Moncho. One of the things Moncho was trying to capture in the shoot was the shape that has become iconic in the history of the 911. “I tried to capture the distinctive curve of the back window; one of the most recognizable design features of Porsche 911’s throughout history, in the shadow falling on the model’s jaw line. It’s subtle, but I think it’s those little details that appeal to individuals who appreciate design”.

Certainly the project would not have the style it does without the beautiful new 991 series 911 Carrera S in Agate Grey with Pebble and Agate full leather interior provided by PCW, nor the design values which came along with a remarkable team of talents: Stylist Gerard Wilton Fashion Blogger of “It Is Isn’t it?”, Makeup Artist Amelia Singson, Hair Stylist Lisa Mangion, Photographic Assistant Tony Cooper and Videographer Aaron White of Plastik Empire. Porsche Design Sydney provided the main design features of the shoot, including a pair of P8479 Heritage Sunglasses from an original 1979 design that still look sharp. Together with the TecFlex stainless steel necklace and bracelet, these look exceptional against a super soft Roadster lambskin leather jacket. Add a luxurious and perfectly cut P1000 silk blouse and an amazing P650 Compass black titanium watch and the design elements were all in place. Sleek, Sexy, Fast and immaculately presented… you can be too with the help of Porsche Design Sydney and Porsche Centre Willoughby
