YouTube Editor - Lesson 2 Making a copy of an existing video You are going to make a copy of your first practice and then add on to it. One way to create a copy is to go to the Creator Studio Video tab and click the down arrow for Projects hover your mouse over the previous movie and choose remix this will open it up in the editor when you give a new name then it actually will create a copy of it
More Ways to Work with Text You already know how to create a blank slide of whatever color/texture you would like to use and add text to it You can also just create a solid color text only slide using the editor tools I am going to click in the last box available in my timeline and then choose Text This will bring up the following window:
Choose Centered Title and drag it onto the last box
I am going to type in a title then I will drag this box over and drop it in front of (or on) the first slide in my show Now I repeat the process but add an ending slide for this one I used the Zoom effect Go ahead and add a title slide and an ending slide you could also place some text slides in the middle of the movie depending on what story your images are telling us
Adding Text to an Image You can also add the text to an image but use caution with this option images have a huge impact and sometimes the words actually take away from the final production see the image below of the Cliffs of Moher In this case maybe the words could be added in a banner at the top or below and timed so they come in a bit after the image first shows up…. or use a title slide just before it… and have a transition to the image
Go ahead and add text to an image to see how it looks you could do one “not great” image and another “much improved” one try to relate these additions to your original theme (understanding that some flexibility may be required for content)
Using Creative Commons Videos Look for the circle CC icon These are videos that are licensed for fair use so no worries about copyright laws. The same applies to the audio tracks that are available for your movies. If you create your own videos and songs then they are also fine to use because they belong to you, right?
I added a video of flowers that was 27 seconds I wanted this to be shorter so once it was added I changed it to 14 seconds Notice that there is a slow motion option here which might be useful sometime in the future feel free to give it a try Go ahead and find a short video drag it into your movie and apply a filter filters can be applied to videos and images.. . Make an adjustment to the length of the video
Add your own video clip I uploaded a video clip of my own it was taken with my iPhone Adding a video is a bit different than uploading photos. First, the video should be upload to your YouTube channel just go to your channel your videos and in the upper right is an UPLOAD button. Use it to bring in videos of your own from the downloads folder. Then publish these minimovies once published you will see they are available to you when editing a movie. Then I just do the same as with photos and drag it into the area of the timeline I would like it to play
Since this video has sound I set the background music to end before the clip plays although there are other ways to edit sound that we will use in later lessons Go ahead and create a short video clip of your own this does not have to be long but try to relate it to your movie theme this is just practice to learn how to use the program so a video of a few seconds is fine Upload it and then add it to your practice movie if you have sound in your video you might want to place it at the end for now so you can stop the background music from playing
Practice 2 Movie should include the following elements: ● Be a copy of the original Practice 1 video now with a new name ● Background music ● A Title ● An Ending Slide (thank you, credits, etc) ● Text on at least 2 images one “good” and one “notsogood” example ● Some slides that contain only text put these in the body of your movie and should make sense depending on what we are viewing ● Transitions you may not need transitions for every slide but there should be some evidence that you understand the artistic value of these and how to use them ● At least one CC video with a time adjustment and filter ● At least one video clip that you created does not have to be long (a few seconds might be fine) but should not be too “random” depending on your theme/topic ● Overall attention to detail for quality text, images, and production
Once you have published your movie go ahead and put the hyperlink on your blog * Note that while the video is being published you can still copy the URL for your blog just be sure that you come back and test it later ….
