HP Systems Insight Manager Tool Integration for HP Web Jetadmin Overview The purpose of this document is to show tool integration within HP Systems Insight Manager for the printer management application, HP Web Jetadmin. HP Web Jetadmin software is a web based application that provides remote configuration, diagnostics and information gathering features for HP and non-HP printing and imaging products. HP Systems Insight Manager merges the best of Servicecontrol Manager, Insight Manager and HP Toptools into one multi-OS management application. Web Jetadmin integration into HP Systems Insight Manager can be obtained by creating tool-definitions within HP Systems Insight Manager. Integration includes, launching HP Web Jetadmin device status pages from printing devices listed within the HP Systems Insight Manager and, launching HP Web Jetadmin as a console view from HP Systems Insight Manager menus. This integration provides an easy way to jump from broad systems management within HP Systems Insight Manager to the more specialized HP and non-HP printer management functionality of HP Web Jetadmin.

Setting Up HP Systems Insight Manager & HP Web Jetadmin The following information describes steps to achieve HP Systems Insight Manager tool definitions for HP Web Jetadmin software. Step One: Create Tool Definition XML File The XML text shown in Figure 1 on the next page can be altered to define an existing HP Web Jetadmin installation as a tool in HP Systems Insight Manager. Once the text is in an acceptable text editor, such as Microsoft’s ® Notepad, it must be altered to define two tools. One tool is launched from the Tools, System Information menu and is named “Web Jetadmin.” The other is launched from the Tools, Consoles menu and is named “Web Jetadmin Consol.” Each of these tools has a definition in one of two XML text sections. The HP Web Jetadmin host can be installed on the same system hosting HP Systems Insight Manager software or, it can be installed on a separate system. The only requirement is that http communications across the network are enabled between the hosts and any browsing systems accessing these applications.

Within the editor, alter the lines that contain the text WJA_HOST:PORT. This text occurs in two places within the file and should be altered to reflect the DNS name and port number of the HP Web Jetadmin installation.

Once the file-edit is complete, use the editor to save the file as wja.xml in a directory of your choosing. With the file saved, you are now ready to proceed with HP Systems Insight Manager tool registration.

Shown in Example 1, below, are the alterations to the XML file lines which represent the HP Web Jetadmin host. It has a DNS IP hostname of ALFALFA and the port number of the Web Jetadmin installation is configured to be 8000. The two lines, within the two sections, of the XML text must be edited to reflect that name and port number.
