HP NonStop Web ViewPoint software Data sheet

HP NonStop Web ViewPoint software for Integrity NonStop servers allows you to perform automated object management for HP Integrity NonStop server subsystems. The availability of system resources is paramount to the success of your business operations. You need to have continuous and effective monitoring and management of your software and hardware entities to maintain availability. HP NonStop Web ViewPoint software is an integral tool for automated operation and management. In a secured access environment, this software provides the following three major subsystems: • Event management • Operations management • Performance monitoring NonStop Web ViewPoint is a Web browser–based product. No client application needs to be installed or maintained, and applications do not need to be coordinated across multiple workstations. This means that you can run the software on a variety of platforms and operating systems. NonStop Web ViewPoint uses an extensible design that allows you to add independent extensions. This design enables you to integrate third-party and in-house customer applications easily with the software: • Online monitoring of object status and performance • Centralized view using a smart Web interface • Integrated view with other HP Web ViewPoint plug-ins

Key features and benefits • Provides a Web browser–based interface with simple navigation and easy pointand-click command and control • Offers a feature-rich single-point Performance and Operations Management toolset for multinode environments • Provides real-time performance monitoring with detail drill-down capabilities • Provides sophisticated Event Management Service (EMS) event management, which can monitor, display, analyze, filter, and route events to a variety of endpoints, including HP Operations suite and SMS software

In a secured environment, NonStop Web ViewPoint software parses the entire system to reveal all supported object types and subsystems. Figure 1. NonStop Web ViewPoint logon screen

• Includes features that provide performance and event alert notifications • Provides plug-in interface that allows the features and functions to be extended easily • Manages NonStop server subsystems and user applications in a secure, automated, and customizable way • Simplifies NonStop operation and management You can use NonStop Web ViewPoint to create a single point for performance monitoring and operations management of a multinode NonStop server environment. Alternatively, you can run each instance of NonStop Web ViewPoint independently on multiple NonStop servers (see figure 1). Event management The Event Management Service (EMS) event viewing and various management features of NonStop Web ViewPoint are easy to use and configure. Event selection criteria and methods are extensive and support a complete range of options. The following selection methods and tips allow even a novice to use the options with confidence: • Monitor real-time EMS events from one or more EMS collectors running on one or more NonStop servers and view all messages on one window or multiple windows side by side (see figure 2) • Configure the system to support multinodes and particular collectors to achieve a single-point interface to EMS messages

Figure 2. Real-time EMS Event Viewer

• Define alert notifications and user subscriptions, including routing options to HP Operations software, mobile phones, and e-mail • Use multiple filter files and/or selection criteria to discard unwanted messages • Acknowledge any event with a single click, and use the option key to enter and save notes • Receive detailed information for any event, including complete token dumps and excerpts of NonStop server manuals that describe the message and provide recovery advice • Gain single-click access to the complete Operator Messages manual in a contextsensitive HTML format • Define custom templates that can be used to display live and historical events • Save events to log files • Compress log files easily with a graphical user interface (GUI) • View Virtual Hometerm Subsystem (VHS) log files and send replies Operations management The Web ViewPoint operations management toolset allows you to monitor and manage a multinode NonStop server environment from a single point. NonStop Web ViewPoint simplifies the underlying NonStop operational toolset syntax requirements through easy-to-use point-and-click command and control features. Whereas the performance monitor and event viewer describe the state of the NonStop server environment, operations management provides a variety of tools and an Object Manager that allows you to take action quickly and easily and to apply specific commands. In a secured environment, the Web ViewPoint Object Manager software parses the entire system to reveal all supported object types and subsystems. The Object Manager then builds

a visual tree structure of the system on the browser and lists all available entities for each object type. When an entity is selected, the Object Manager displays a list of buttons that represent all applicable commands. You can then click on a button to issue a command. NonStop Web ViewPoint also allows you to enter more complex and customized commands manually. A generic internal structure allows you to define and integrate your in-house applications into the Object Manager, which then becomes aware of those customized environments automatically. The Object Manager provides a central tool to manage all subsystems and applications automatically. There is no need to memorize and enter command syntax. As a result, errors are reduced and productivity improves. A companion to the Object Manager is a subsystem called the Central Command Manager (CCM), which includes a smart disk and file interface. The disk interface provides a visual, color-coded, system-wide disk space analysis (see figure 3). The software’s file interface provides a Web-based editor that includes text search and replacement capabilities, as well as the ability to save a file to a different location on either the host or a PC. You can issue file commands and display processes for open files with process details. You can also execute the contents of multiple obey files in a parallel or sequential format, as well as run TACL procedures from NonStop Web ViewPoint. The CCM includes a Find File function that allows you to conduct file searches based on a wide range of criteria. You can upload and download files easily between the workstation and the host. A spooler interface with a search function is also included that opens all active spoolers in a tree view format, making it easy to view or print the content of spooler jobs or alter their state and parameters. Performance monitoring The performance monitor provides an online subsystem that monitors continuously and enables you to receive and display current performance metrics. You can choose the number of seconds between monitoring intervals and customize the type of display for three categories of NonStop server performance data: • Use the WebDash interface to monitor and manage a multinode environment. • Select and monitor one or more (up to 14) processor performance attributes; these chosen attributes will be graphed at set intervals. You can display data simultaneously for multiple attributes and processors and select the order in which they will be graphed (see figure 4). • Follow a trend of usage values for selected attributes and/or processors over time. NonStop Web ViewPoint can display up to 60 points of time, with an interval that you choose. • View a list of the current busiest processes on the server—either per processor or per server. You can decide how many of the top busiest processes will be listed and how often the information will be updated. A single click on a process displays access to additional information (e.g., detail properties, files opened, and processes spawned) and commands (e.g., Stop, Suspend, and Activate). Each request for information opens a new window that includes links to additional related data. This provides an online and quick data-mining tool for all CPUs, processes, and files.

Smart navigator NonStop Web ViewPoint provides a simple-to-use multimenu design. Each subsystem is organized in a menu format that provides you with direct access from any function to another. The software can either switch the current page to the new feature or open a new window and bring that feature forward. NonStop Web ViewPoint takes care of all staging commands automatically in the background, leaving you free to focus on the operation task at hand. The software monitors movements and issues commands automatically to the host modules to stop, start, or restart and alter programs as needed. You can use either a single window or multiple windows side by side to manage the environment. NonStop Web ViewPoint is security smart and knows when additional security prompts are required. The software remembers preferences for the connected host and/or neighborhood; the system then detects and uses these preferences on subsequent uses of the supported feature. In addition, a complete and smart context-sensitive online help feature is available.

WebDash NonStop Web ViewPoint now provides a new “at-a-glance” interface that allows you to monitor the performance of a single system or multiple systems. You can configure Neighborhoods of various nodes or Residents, and then set up a single-point view and interface for command and control. WebDash allows you to configure the display windows easily and display all or a selection of information ranging from CPU performance, process, disc, netline, NonStop Transaction Management Facility (NonStop TMF) metrics, as well as events. CPU monitoring provides a color-coded busy condition and a drill-down feature that provides details for problem analysis on bottlenecks and response-time issues. The system will provide alerts automatically when particular busy thresholds are reached (see figure 5).

HP NonStop Pocket ViewPoint HP NonStop Pocket ViewPoint software allows you to monitor and manage your NonStop server remotely. You can configure your system to alert you or notify you when events occur or are completed on your NonStop servers without the need to have wired access to the system. Events and notifications can be seen through PDA or cellular phone devices, where you can also take remote actions to redirect system activities.
