Housed in the basement of Andrew’s, they offer a more complex dinner menu with respectively more complex prices. Mostly Italian/ Steakhouse Swank. Bella Bella 123 E. 5th Ave. (at Monroe) 850-412-1114 A tiny Italian restaurant with a fantastic menu. They do amazing things to fish and have a deft hand with pasta. Ideal for a cozy night out and reasonable for lunch – although‎it’ll‎ feel like a splurge. Chez Pierre 1215 Thomasville Rd (at 6th ave) 850-222-0936 A Tallahassee Tradition, Chez Pierre offers French upscale dining in the evening and a boisterous brunch and lunch crowd. Try their new outdoor bar area for a more relaxed menu. Food Glorious Food 1950 Thomasville Rd. 850-224-9974 Enjoyable, but inconsistent, the menu is influenced by Cuban, Southern, Continental and sometimes just plain wackiness. While some items are excellent, others are true misses. In particular, portion sizes are not well labeled. Pricy on a grad student budget as well. Fusion 1225 N. Monroe St. 850-222-4956 This fusion place has been under a different chef in the past – who was excellent—now the fusion has changed but the quality is still very good. Amazing food – Southern‎/‎Continental‎/‎Greek/‎Italian/‎you‎name‎it,‎it’s‎in‎there‎and‎ fantastically executed. Fresh, seasonal menu rotates weekly. Entire meals can be quite happily made from the appetizer list, and the staff are all math whizzes at dividing checks, in addition to being super-nice.‎‎Be‎aware:‎they‎don’t‎do‎reservations‎and‎the‎ wait can be lengthy at peak times. Mozaik 1410 Market St. 850-893-7668 A nice restaurant with some interesting fusion dishes. They also have a deli where you can get stuff to go. A bit pricey, but a good place to explore.

They do wicked things with tofu (Barbecue Tofu Wrap, anyone?) in a funky, hippie atmosphere. Andrew’s 228 S. Adams St. 850-222-3444 Good burgers and beer, with outside seating downtown. Good place to grab lunch or dinner, and they do a great Sunday brunch from 11- 2 pm. Barnacle Bill’s 1830 N. Monroe St. 850-385-8734 Sea life in a variety of forms, most of them fried. Oysters are a good bet, as is the fried calamari. Captain Pete’s 1184 Capital Circle NE near Tom Brown Park 850-887-8012 Great Gyros. Hidden away, but a great little Tallahassee secret. Monroe St. Located inauspiciously between a pet-store and a Publix, Hopkins has surprisingly good sandwiches and salads. Vegetarian friendly. During the winter they have tasty homemade soups. The ultimate turkey on marbled rye is good for your soul. The Loop 609 W. Tennessee St. 850-224-2891 Pizza and burgers, located on the North edge of campus. A bit pricy for everyday use, but tasty. Miller’s Ale House 722 Apalachee Pkwy 850-222-0364 Sports-bar type burgers and fried foods, with indoor/outdoor seating. Good place to catch a football game and a few pints with friends. New Leaf Deli Apalachee Pkwy Ross Shopping Center 850-942-2557 Not only a great place to buy organic foods and vegetarian/ vegan options, but they also have a hot-bar in the back with different choices daily, a salad bar, and sandwiches and smoothies to order. They also have vegan and non-vegan baked goods.

Pensacola St. 850-575-0050 A chain, but one with good pizza and a decent beer selection, close to campus. The Red Elephant 1872 Thomasville Rd (across from the Miracle 5) 850-222-7492 Pizza is ok, burgers are ok, nothing particularly stunning. Very family friendly and convenient to the movies. Three Guys from New York Pizzaria 1814 W. Tennessee St. #2 850-513-9600 These pies have tasty sauce and just the right amount of cheese. The margherita pizza is quite good, as is the vegetarian.

Indian Essence of India 1105-A Apalachee Pkwy 850-656-7200 Pricier than Samrat and smaller portioned, but superior quality. The naan is fresh and delicious, and the staff is very friendly. Blairstone Rd #103 (Publix Shopping plaza) 850-656-6686 Primarily a Take-out‎place,‎Bamboo‎Wok‎has‎the‎best‎General‎Tso’s‎Chicken‎in‎town.‎ Hits all the right notes for mass-market American style Chinese food. Cafe Jasmine 109 E. College Ave 850-681-6868 Tasty sushi in the downtown area, neat atmosphere. China Delight 220 W. Tennessee St. 850-222-8898 Good food, reasonable prices. Several vegetarian options, although read carefully – some of the veggie options have pork in them. The Seseame Bean Curd is fantastic – ask for it extra crispy. When dining in, be sure to order the tea, which is often barley and very pleasant. China Super Buffet 2698 N. Monroe St. 850-553-9292 Not necessarily the highest quality food, but lots of it. The buffet is immense and contains the usual (Americanized Chinese) to the strange (Pizza?) to the surprisingly authentic (an excellent smoked tea rice roll). The kitsch is enough to make up for some disappointments and the people-watching is prime. Check the maps before heading to Osaka – it can only be accessed from one direction and that area is confusing. The Rice Bowl 3813 N. Monroe St. (in the Lake Jackson Shopping Center) 850-514-3632 A pan-asian selection. Sakura 1318 N. Monroe 850-222-9991 Good sushi, incredible presentation, beautiful atmosphere inside. Good for date nights, but‎won’t‎break‎your‎budget.‎‎One‎of‎the‎sushi‎chefs‎draws‎super-cute images with the sauces, and recently some sushi has come with oddly sculptural serving trays.

Brunch is served on Sundays until 2:00 pm, so take your time crawling out of bed. The attached bar is smoky, seedy, and very amusing. Watch out for the margaritas. Carlos’ Cuban Cafe 402 E. Tennessee St. (Near N. Monroe/ Tennessee intersection downtown) 850-222-8581 If‎you‎like‎Cuban‎food,‎Carlos’s‎is‎a‎good‎place‎for‎more upscale Cuban dishes. Great black beans and plantains. Los Compadres 2690 N. Monroe St. 850-385-7130 Another Mexican restaurant with outdoor seating. They sometimes have a roaming minstrel by the name of Tico Tico playing guitar on the weekend evenings. Gordos 1907 W. Pensacola St. 850- 576-5767 Laid back, good food, close to campus with outdoor seating. Get the Cuban Sandwhich – you’ll‎be‎glad‎you‎did. Morelia 1400 Village Square Blvd. Nice little Mexican‎joint.‎‎A‎bit‎far‎out‎of‎town,‎but‎if‎you’re‎up‎that‎way‎and‎hungry‎for‎ tacos, check them out. San Miquel 200 W. Tharpe St. 850-385-3346 Another Mexican restaurant. Plenty of cheese, plenty of fried. El Tapatio 1002 N. Monroe 850-224-0351 Nice outdoor seating and decent specials (two-for-one beer and margaritas, most days) but there is a layer of suspicious cheese on everything.
