TECHNOLOGY EXPLAINED

DIGITAL TV – By 2012, all areas of the UK will receive TV in digital, as opposed to analogue. Digital TV provides better picture quality and a greater choice of TV and radio channels. It also offers new features such as on-screen programme guides, interactivity, audio description and subtitling for people with visual and audio impairments The map below shows the dates the switchover will take place in your regions.

LED – LG LED TVs produce a sharper, more detailed picture with a superior contrast as well as an ultra slim design compared to LCD TVs. LED TVs have tiny lights either around the edge of the TV (known as Edge LED) or directly behind the TV (known as Full LED).

HD – High-definition television, (HDTV) is a new standard of TV with better-quality picture and sound. HDTV brings you closer to the action, offering more colours and a higher resolution picture similar to what you'd see at a cinema. 02

NETCAST – brings the best of the internet directly to your TV, without the need for a computer. You can enjoy free YouTube, weather forecasts as well as online photo sharing from the comfort of your living room sofa. You can access this service by connecting LG NetCast TVs to your home network either via the built-in Ethernet port or using an optional WiFi USB dongle.

DLNA – (Digital Living Network Alliance) Create a wireless home network to talk to your PC, digital camera, mobile phone and even Blu-ray player. This seamless connection to multiple WiFi-enabled devices anywhere in your home lets you to watch online content on the big screen without any unsightly wires.

3D TECHNOLOGY EXPLAINED WHAT IS 3D?

WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF 3D?

3D technology is filmed using two separate images with two standard definition cameras. They act like a pair of eyes, focusing on the left and right angle of the image. The images from both cameras are edited and converted into a three dimensional image. LG offers two types of 3D technology:

Currently there is a limited amount of 3D content available but that is all set to change. Sky will launch a dedicated 3D channel in autumn 2010 to bring more fantastic 3D viewing to enhance your home entertaiment viewing experience.

3D technology has actually been around a long time but has recently come to life as the film; gaming and broadcast industry has started to create amazing blockbuster 3D hits.

1. PASSIVE This is similar to what you would experience in the cinema whilst watching a 3D movie. They use polarised glasses to display a different image to each eye by only letting in the correct image intended for the left and right eye. 2. ACTIVE Active TV sets use special LCD shutter glasses which are activated by the emitter built inside the TV. The glasses house much of the 3D technology in the glasses themselves and therefore make them significantly more expensive.

Committed to making 3D accessible to everyone, LG is working with sky to bring live sporting events in 3D to hundreds of thousands of people every week. This year over 1500 pubs have been kitted out with LG 3D TVs. GLASSES FOR ACTIVE TV SETS The active glasses need to be charged. This can be done by taking the wire that comes inside the glasses box and connecting the USB input end to the TV and then the other end connect to the glasses. When the green light flashes the glasses are fully charged. To turn on the glasses press the on button and wait for the glasses to synchronize with the transmitters built inside the TV set which provides you with up to 40 hours of uninterrupted viewing.

GLASSES FOR PASSIVE TV SETS Glasses for the passive TV sets are simple, light and easy to use. They do not require to be charged and can just be put on. One important point to consider is the cost of replacing broken or lost 3D glasses. Active glasses will cost more than passive glasses due to the additional technology they use.
