SUBJECT: Ovivo Synopsis of Qualifications and Technology microBLOX™ MBR Wastewater Treatment System Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) Systems are, today, the best available technology to meet the most stringent effluent limits in wastewater treatment and reuse applications. Ovivo will work with plant owners, plant operators and consultants to deliver Ovivo® MBR technology that meets the needs of each unique wastewater treatment problem. Over the last three decades, Ovivo has proven its leadership in the MBR space. For every project we start the design process by understanding the client needs, identifying scope, selecting the appropriate building (purple) blocks, generating a flow diagram, selecting the right equipment, optimizing the solution and then repeating the process. One size does NOT fit all. Each microBLOX™ solution should be unique and tailored to the specific application through the use of modular subsystem blocks.

For smaller flows, true Ready-to-Operate systems are available. These systems are delivered to the site factory assembled with little or no interconnecting piping or ancillary equipment to install. Branded as microBLOX™, The facility design and layout of an Ovivo microBLOX™ MBR system is intended to provide low constructed cost, low O&M, process stability, flexible design, simplified piping, operational ease and requires 70% less automation. The biggest advantage to end-users, however, may ultimately be reduced installation costs. Contractor estimates indicate that single-stage systems may cost as much as 25-50% less to construct due to the reduced footprint, reduced concrete and overall process simplicity.

TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

• MBR Technology • Ready-To-Operate • Installation Ease

microBLOX™ technology was designed and engineered to be extremely simple to install, operate and optimize. MBR technology, specifically our microBLOX™ MBR systems are designed to provide a very high quality of water capable of operating within varying and at higher pollutant loading.

PROCESS FLOW

microBLOX™ is designed hydraulically and biologically to operate at a flow rate of up to 125,000 gallons per day per system. Flow variations will move the system automatically in or out of intermittent mode as necessary, as required by treatment flow requirements. Flexible zones allows for multiple flow sheets. System equipment selection and configuration allow for a 10 to 1 turndown ratio.

• Single Stage or Two Stage Hybrid

Influent (raw wastewater) is screened and delivered into either a single-stage or two-stage high rate MBR process designed to operate over a range of dissolved oxygen conditions to achieve nutrient removal targets. Some process oxygen is delivered by the membrane aeration. For higher strength wastes or to increase hydraulic throughput, a supplemental oxygen system is employed and consists of an oxygen concentrator, IR loop pumps and a saturation system. Biologically treated wastewater is then filtered using Ovivo membranes to produce reuse quality effluent.

• High Rate MBR • System Flows up to 125,000 gallons per day • BNR Achievable

Unlike other MBR systems, microBLOX incorporates solids thickening into the biological process. WAS can be stored at 2 to 3% solids, reducing handling costs.

• Reuse Quality Water • Oxygen Saturation System • Flexible Zone Configuration

DESCRIPTION Using the general principles of a conventional MBR system combined with SND in the activated sludge process, nitrogen removal and filtering is accomplished in a single tank without the need for recycling (i.e., single stage system). To attain the predetermined dissolved oxygen set points, the dissolved oxygen is increased by utilizing the supplemental oxygen feed system to inject highly concentrated oxygen, thereby promoting nitrification (formation of nitrates), then enabling denitrification by reducing the oxygen feed to allow the bacteria to consume dissolved oxygen associated with the formed nitrates, which then results in formation of nitrogen gas. By incorporating SND in the activated sludge process, the oxygen requirements for the system are reduced resulting in reduced energy and operational costs. The effluent is further polished with a GAC media to assure TOC removal down to < 1 mg/L. ™

DESCRIPTION A wastewater feasibility study of the Tule River Reservation by the Indian Health Service concluded that 30 percent of all septic tank/drainfield systems had failed and an additional 30 percent would fail in the near future. To correct this problem, the tribe decided to install an Ovivo microBLOX MBR System. The microBLOX was chosen for its small footprint, ease of installation, and future expansion. The plant will provide service for 850 residents. The microBlox is a single pass, high MLSS MBR utilizing concentrated oxygen for process purposes.

DESCRIPTION Wastewater from a temporary destination location can be a challenge to effectively treat, due to transit visitors which can swell the resort population from a few to a few thousand. The existing SBR could not be managed so that it produced the effluent quality required for the resort. The resorts corporation looked for another solution and upon evaluation of different technologies and suppliers settled on Ovivo and our microBLOX™ Package Plant. One of the main evaluated points that pointed to Ovivo’s selection was our excellent customer support and the smart systems which are included with every microBLOX™.
