Human Anatomy in Poland: Spring 2017 Join CCBC professor Dr. Ewa Gorski, a native of Poland, in exploring sites important to the study of human anatomy across Poland and in nearby Germany. You will study anatomy and its social and historical context at monuments, museums, and a wide variety of contemporary venues in Krakow, Warsaw, and Wroclaw, as well as at the innovative Plastinarium in Guben, Germany – where the world-famous Body Worlds exhibit originated.

Eligibility Applicants should be at least age 18 and be ready to complete an interview with the program’s faculty leader. Student applicants should also (a) be in good academic and disciplinary standing at CCBC, (b) have passed ENGL 052 or ESOL 052 or equivalent, and (c) plan to pursue an associated course in the spring 2017 semester. Associated courses include certain sections in the fields of biology and mortuary science. See the program application for the course list and contact the faculty leader to learn which sections are eligible. (Students enrolled in similar course sections in a prior semester may also be eligible to apply. Contact the faculty leader for details.) Non-students should be willing to submit a CCBC application for admission (free) if accepted.

Accommodations and Meals You will stay in twin rooms in hotels in Warsaw, Krakow, and Wroclaw. Eight breakfasts at the hotels and one group dinner are included.

Insurance You will be covered under an insurance policy while engaged in the program. It includes both emergency medical and basic travel insurance. If you would like additional insurance – for example, to cover personal health needs or to have travel cancellation options – you may wish to purchase upgraded insurance coverage from a reputable travel agency.

Payments Payments are nonrefundable. Admitted participants will make payments to CCBC’s Bursar’s Office according to the calendar in the program application. Individualized payment plans may be available. Contact CCBC’s Study Abroad Office ([email protected]) for details.

CCBC’s Student Conduct office will confirm your disciplinary standing as part of the study abroad application review process. Participants on any form of disciplinary probation or with a significant history of disciplinary actions are not eligible to participate in study abroad. Participants who incur sanctions after study abroad approval may have their approval revoked.

STUDY ABROAD POLICIES AND PROCEDURES PAYMENTS  Before the required deadlines, participants must pay for the travel component and, if applicable, register for a CCBC course designated for this study abroad program. Participants who do not make payments on time may automatically be dropped from the program and will not be able to re-register.  All program payments are nonrefundable.  Payments will be cashed by CCBC upon receipt.

NOTE:  Admitted participants will receive payment slips. You must submit a payment slip to the Bursar’s office with each payment. Save your receipts.  You may submit smaller payments more frequently, as long as the required total is received before each due date.

REFUND POLICY  Participants are responsible for paying the full travel program fee ($3,350). Should a participant wish to withdraw from the program for any reason after admission, refunds are not guaranteed and only recoverable expenses may be considered for refund by the Study Abroad Office. CCBC withdrawal/drop/add deadlines do not apply. The participant must submit his/her intention to withdraw in writing to the Study Abroad Office. ACADEMICS (FOR STUDENTS)  Study abroad programs are academic in nature, and participants must expect to invest time and effort in this program.  Students must register for an associated course per program requirements or a faculty-leader’s written instructions.  Attendance at all scheduled program activities is required, both at CCBC and abroad. Participants are expected to be punctual at all scheduled activities. Lateness and absences may result in suspension or expulsion.  Participants will attend two required orientations for the program in the winter, and students will attend one posttravel meeting after spring break (dates and campus to be announced).  Students must satisfactorily complete assigned academic work to receive the study abroad transcript credential. TRAVEL  Participants will (1) make sure that their current passport will be valid for at least six months after the travel dates OR (2) apply for a passport or passport renewal sufficiently in advance of departure (US citizens: see travel.state.gov). page 2 of 3

 Participants will travel on the designated group flight.  Participants will provide the Study Abroad Office with a copy of their passport prior to departure and will also submit required paperwork for the travel vendor.  If not a US citizen or permanent resident, participants must research and comply with their destination’s and any transit country’s entry requirements for citizens of their home country. CCBC students who are not US citizens should also meet with CCBC’s International Student Services office to discuss their plan to participate in study abroad. HEALTH  Participants should consult with a healthcare provider who specializes in travel medicine at least eight weeks before departure regarding immunizations and other health-related needs for Poland. Prior to the appointment, participants should carefully read the Center for Disease Control’s website for travelers to Poland. It is the participants’ responsibility to obtain any vaccinations and/or medical tests before traveling abroad.  Participants should prepare for significant walking, and should bring abroad sunscreen, a sturdy umbrella, and comfortable shoes for walking. Consult with the travel medicine specialist for further recommendations.  Participants will complete a health disclosure form prior to departure.  Participants who require special accommodations should make their needs known to the Study Abroad Office in a timely way. Otherwise, it may delay their participation in study abroad until reasonable accommodations/adjustments can be determined. Laws abroad regarding access for those with physical disabilities may differ from laws in the US and there is no guarantee that all individual needs and circumstances can be met.  If a participant becomes ill or injured, s/he should notify the program leader(s) immediately. CONDUCT  While studying abroad, participants are expected to abide by all applicable laws and by CCBC rules and policies,

including the CCBC Student Code of Conduct.  If, during free time, a student participant wishes to go somewhere alone, s/he must let someone, preferably the leader(s), know where s/he is going and when s/he plans to return. Students are advised not to go out alone.  The leaders have the right and responsibility to suspend from the program any member if the leaders deem such action to be in the best interest of the group. In such instances, no refund or credit will be awarded to the member so suspended. Breaches of local law will be reported to law enforcement agencies. CONTACT  Participants’ names and e-mail addresses may be shared with fellow participants unless a participant has opted not to have this information disclosed by informing CCBC’s Study Abroad Office in writing.  Should their academic status, disciplinary status, contact information, or other information related to the application change, participants are to contact and update the Study Abroad Office immediately.
