WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM FR. LARRY Dear Friends, This being the 3rd Sunday of Lent, we celebrate the First Scrutiny and Exorcism for the Elect in our RCIA Program. We have two adults and four children (the “elect”) who will receive their Sacraments at the Easter Vigil. In the Scrutiny Rites, the elect as well as the entire assembly are called to examine the areas in their lives where they thirst for God and need God's healing love. To scrutinize something means to examine it closely. These ritual celebrations are held on the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays of Lent. For the next three weeks, the readings are from the Gospel of John. Today we hear the story of the woman at the well and her thirst for God (Jn 4:4-42). Next Sunday we will hear the story of the man born blind and the healing power of God in his life (Jn 9:1-41). On the 5th Sunday we will hear the story of the raising of Lazarus, which reminds us of our own dying and rising with Christ in Baptism (Jn 11:1-45). The Scrutiny rites of Lent are communal prayers celebrated to strengthen the elect to overcome the power of sin in their lives and to grow in virtues. The community does not scrutinize the elect; instead, they scrutinize their own lives and allow God to scrutinize them and to heal them. Since all of us are called to continual conversion throughout our lives, we join with the elect in the Scrutinies and pray to God for the grace to overcome the power of sin that still has a hold on us, and to be strengthened in the virtues. Let us all pray for the elect and for each other. Amen! God bless, Fr. Tenemos a dos adultos y cuatro niños (los "elegidos") que recibirán sus Sacramentos en la Vigilia Pascual. En los Ritos de Escrutinio, tanto los elegidos como toda la asamblea son llamados para examinar áreas de sus vidas donde tienen sed de Dios y necesitan el amor curativo de Dios. El examinar algo significa examinarlo afondo. Estas celebraciones rituales son celebradas los 3ro, 4to y 5to Domingos de la Cuaresma. Durante las próximas tres semanas, las lecturas son del Evangelio de Juan. Hoy escuchamos la historia de la mujer en el pozo y su sed de Dios (Jn 4: 4-42). El próximo domingo escucharemos la historia del nacido ciego y el poder sanador de Dios en su vida (Jn 9: 1-41). En el quinto domingo escucharemos la historia de la resurrección de Lázaro, que nos recuerda nuestra propia muerte y resurrección con Cristo en el bautismo (Jn 11,1-45). Los ritos de Escrutinio de Cuaresma son oraciones comunitarias celebradas para fortalecer a los elegidos para vencer el poder del pecado en sus vidas y para que crezcan en sus virtudes. La comunidad no escruta a los elegidos; En lugar de eso, escudriñan de sus propias vidas y permiten que Dios los examine y cure. A lo largo de nuestras vidas, todos somos llamados a la conversión continua, nos unimos a los elegidos en los Escrutinios y le pedimos a Dios por la gracia de vencer el poder del pecado que todavía nos tiene a nosotros, y pedimos ser fortalecidos en las virtudes. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (Children) ARE YOU SOMEONE OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO…  Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic?  Is an adult or has a child over the age of seven who has not been baptized?  Is an adult (18 years or older) Was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist? We offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. There are separate sessions for children and adults. You are welcome to participate in the process with your questions, your insights and your faith story in a warm accepting setting. Parents should be aware of laundry pod dangers Risk to children’s safety come in many shapes and sizes. As parents and caring adults, inappropriate adult conduct is not the only risk to watch for; we must also create a safe environments to protect children from other risks. One possible threat comes from the small soft plastic pods that hold laundry detergent. The pods are brightly colored, and often attract young children who may mistake them for candy or other foods and according to studies, children who ingest these pods or been exposed to them could become ill and need to be hospitalized.
