Happy New Year

Mrs Brown’s Week Happy New Year. I wish you a very happy and healthy year in 2018. Thank you so much for all of the lovely presents and cards that I received for Christmas. This week our prayers have been answered and we have been happy to welcome Ms Alcock back to Year 5. I am sure that you will agree that Mrs Ashbrooke and Mrs Heselwood do a fantastic job but I am sad to say that increasingly they are being subjected to abuse from parents who become irate with them for doing their job. Please help to look after our staff by : A)

Downloading after-school club documents; completing them and sending them in to school with your child who will put them in the class silver box.

B)

Understanding that unfortunately the Teachers2parents and online money are linked to the school’s online registration system. This means that a child can only have one parent/ carer’s phone number linked to the texting and money payment systems. We have enquired from the company as to whether it is possible to change this but it is not. We do our best to provide all information on the website; in the newsletter and where appropriate by text. Where there is an issue with communication between parents, please could parents either take responsibility to send the text on to their partner or one parent agree to check the website regularly for information.

Pastoral Life at St Anne’s Assemblies This week we have focused on treating other people how you would like to be treated, which supported the class work on anti-bullying. First Holy Communion The next preparation session is on Sunday 28th January in church at 10.15. Don’t forget to bring your homework!. Any child is welcome to join these sessions even if they are not making their First Holy Communion.

St Anne’s Keep Fit Healthy Sport

We are proud of our Gold School Games Award which was earned by the school for hard work in providing sports for all; participating in sports competitions both at school, local and county level and for ensuring that the children have the opportunity to do sports in their lunch hours and after school.

Sport P.E. Kit Several children from each class have not been able to take part in P.E. lessons this week because they do not have their P.E. kit in school. PLEASE ENSURE your child has their kit in school every day. They can keep their kit in their lockers until the next half term holiday. Golden Mile Club We have not been able to use the field as it is very wet and muddy at the moment. We hope to offer the club in the morning, lunchtimes and after school again in a few weeks time. Change4Life Club We will be offering this opportunity to a new set of children during the Spring Term. Look out for your invitation! Thank you to our Malbank students who run this club on a Wednesday lunchtime. It has proved to be popular for most of the children who were invited this term. Please be an ‘Eager Beaver’ Please help us to make every second count. An increasing number of children are arriving after the bell has gone at 8.55 am. This delays the register and ordering of meals and then impacts on the rest of the class by interrupting the start of lessons. 5 minutes late per day is 25minutes per week, which adds up to 1hour 40 minutes per month. There are still high levels of absence. Many children have either bad coughs and colds or sickness. Please help stop diseases from spreading by encouraging your child to follow the advice on this NHS poster. It is also helpful if they are taught to wash their hands properly.

The School Library - will be open every Tuesday afternoon for children to exchange library books. Attendance A study of our attendance figures indicates that attendance has been declining over the past 3 years. Some classes have worse attendance than others, especially the current Year 1 class. There has also been a steady increase of children taking time off during term time for holidays. Good, consistent attendance is crucial to a child’s future prospects. It has been shown that regular and sustained absence often leads to gaps in learning, lower attainment and social difficulties. We would be grateful for your support in ensuring that your child attends school on all days unless medically unfit. If your child’s attendance falls below 95% you will be asked to attend a meeting with Mrs Brown to discuss how we can support you in improving it.
