Dear Campers, We can’t wait to see old faces and meet new ones this summer. Camp is going to be very exciting with lots of new things to learn. Please take the time to learn one of the monologues below to the best of your ability. For vocal auditions, it’s important to attempt to tell a story along with singing your song; acting is as important as singing when you are auditioning. The parts given below are not necessarily the parts that you are auditioning for, just text from the show that may be familiar to you and easy to audition with. If you have a different piece or something additional that you would like to use for your audition, feel free to do so. Remember, we all support you, and we want to see you do your best, and we will help you to bring out your best throughout the summer camp experience. We will help you to grow as an actor, and want you to have a lot of fun in the process.

From all of us to you, we look forward to seeing you this summer!

Session 1: DISNEY’S THE JUNGLE BOOK, KIDS **In your audition, try and express whom you are speaking to and what you want from them. Memorization is not necessary! Just be present. If memorizing helps to achieve that goal then it is fine, but being memorized or not memorized has little to nothing to with the casting process. Also, you can do just a portion of any of these auditions. Break a leg! And most important of all, have fun! BAGHEERA: That does it! From now on, you are listening to what I say. Now, I am going to start walking to the village and you are going to follow me. Make no mistake about it, you are going home. BALOO: But I promised he could stay here with me.....But you're right, Bagheera. I'll tell him in the morning. We have no choice. He's got to leave the jungle. BAGHEERA: I once lived in a village. They kept me in a cage and that bald spot is from the collar that was around my neck. None of the others in the jungle know this. Only you. One day I felt the jungle calling. That cage couldn’t hold me in anymore. I broke the lock and freed myself. I haven’t entered a village since that day. My true home is in the jungle. Mowgli. Your true home is in a village and while you’re not locked in a cage the way I was, you are held here. One day you’ll hear your call and you’ll walk into that village as a man and you’ll have found your true home too. SHANTI: Hello. My name is Shanti. I live in the village over the river. It’s not a MAN village! There are women and little girls…and little boys just like you. Sometimes I sneak into the jungle to have an adventure. I saw what happened…and how brave you were. How brave all of you were…I couldn’t just sit there and not help out! Uh-oh. I’d better go. MOWGLI: Bagheera, I’m getting a little sleepy. Shouldn’t we start back home? To a man-village? But why? Shere Khan wants to hurt me? But I’ve never even met him. Well you need to explain to him that I’d never make fire and hunt tigers with guns. I want to stay in the jungle! I can take care of myself. I am a lot tougher than people think!

For Your Vocal/Music Audition: We would like you to have a few options for your musical audition. Please prepare a chorus or your favorite 20-30 seconds from any song of your choosing. Here are three ideas; you are welcome to choose either one of them: 1) Sing any song a capella (this means just you singing, no music background) 2) Sing any song with your own cd instrumental accompaniment (bring a cd) 3) Download the Karaoke version (instruments only, no voices on the track) of any song of your choice (usually $1) onto your phone or MP3 player, and sing with that as your background accompaniment

Session 1: THE WIZARD OF OZ **Boys and girls can choose to do any part (or something else) for your audition – just pick your favorite monologue. And remember, feel free to let it be big! #1: Courage! What makes a king out of a slave? Courage! What makes the flag on the mast to wave? Courage! What makes the elephant charge his tusk in the misty mist, or the dusky dusk? What makes the muskrat guard his musk? Courage! What makes the sphinx the seventh wonder? Courage! What makes the dawn come up like thunder? Courage! What makes the Hottentot so hot? What puts the "ape" in apricot? What have they got that I ain't got? #2: But it wasn't a dream. It was a place. And you and you and you...and you were there. But you couldn't have been could you? No, Aunt Em, this was a real truly live place and I remember some of it wasn't very nice, but most of it was beautiful--but just the same all I kept saying to everybody was "I want to go home," and they sent me home! Doesn't anybody believe me? But anyway, Toto, we're home! Home. And this is my room, and you're all here and I'm not going to leave here ever, ever again. Because I love you all. And... Oh Auntie Em! There's no place like home! #3: Who killed my sister? Who killed the Wicked Witch of the east? Was it you? It was an accident, you say? You didn’t mean to kill anyone. Well, my pretty, I can cause accidents too. The ruby slippers, where are they? What have you done with them? Give them back to me or I’ll . . . Give me back my slippers. I’m the only one who knows how to use them. Give them back to me. Give them back! #4: Why, anybody can have a brain. That's a very mediocre commodity. Every pusillanimous creature that crawls on the Earth or slinks through slimy seas has a brain. Back where I come from, we have Universities, seats of great learning, where men go to become great thinkers. And when they come out, they think deep thoughts, and with no more brains than you have. But they have one thing you haven't got: a diploma.

For Your Vocal/Music Audition: We would like you to have a few options for your vocal/music audition. Please prepare 16 bars from any song of your choosing (or for younger children, a chorus or any favorite part of a song). Here are three suggestions; you are welcome to choose any option that suits you: 1) Sing any song a capella (this means just you singing, no music background) 2) Sing any song with your own cd instrumental accompaniment (bring cd) 3) Download the Karaoke version (instruments only, no voices on the track) of any song of your choice (usually $1) onto your phone or MP3 player, and sing with that as your background accompaniment

Session 1: MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMAOT **Boys and girls can choose to do any part for your audition; any 30-60 second contemporary monologue will also work. HISTORIAN: “And so, King Arthur gathered more Knights together, bringing from all the corners of the Kingdom the strongest and bravest in the land to sit at the Round Table. The strangely flatulent Sir Bedevere.” *STAGE DIRECTIONS: (Belvedere enters, flapping his tabard, as if he has just farted) “The dashingly handsome Sir Galahad.....” (Sir Galahad enters and shakes his blonde mane preciously) “The homicidally brave Sir Lancelot…..” (Lancelot enters and gets a little too close to Galahad, gripping his arm) “Sir Robin the Not-quite-so-brave-as-Sir-Lancelot.....” (Sir Robin enters holding a rubber chicken) “…..who slew the vicious chicken of Bristol and who personally wet himself at the Battle of Badon Hill. And the aptly named Sir Not-Appearing-in-this-show.” (Sir Not-Appearing, a Knight in Spanish armor, enters. They all look at him) (He exits sheepishly) “Together they formed a band whose names and deeds were to be retold throughout the Centuries... The Knights of the Round Table!” (The Knights do a soft shoe shuffle and then gather around a camp fire)

LANCELOT: “Leave him alone! This poor little chap is your son, sir. All he ever wanted was a little love and affection, but did you ever give it to him? No, no... ... I'll wager you denied him. You try to kill him, and worse, far worse, you try to marry him off to some girl, some female that he obviously has no feelings for whatsoever. Yes, yes I know a little bit about bullying fathers you bastard. Have you no heart? Have you no human tenderness? Can't you see that all he's asking for is a little love and understanding? Is that too much to ask? Is it? Too Much! To Ask!” LADY OF THE LAKE: “Whatever happened to my part? It was exciting at the start. Now we’re half-way through act two. And I’ve had nothing yet to do. I’ve been off stage for far too long. It’s ages since I had a song. This is one unhappy diva. The producer’s a deceiver. She told me to believe her. There is nothing I can sing from my heart. Whatever happened to my part? My love life is a mess. I’ve got constant P.M.S. My career is about as hot as ice. They hate me there backstage. They say I’m too old for my age. They’re trying to replace me with Posh Spice. With Posh Spice!

Session 2: DISNEY’S CINDERELLA, KIDS **In your audition, try and express whom you are speaking to and what you want from them. Memorization is not necessary! Just be present. If memorizing helps to achieve that goal then it is fine, but being memorized or not memorized has little to nothing to with the casting process. Also, you can do just a portion of any of these auditions. Break a leg! And most important of all, have fun!

FAIRY GODMOTHER: A dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep. In dreams you will lose your heartaches. Whatever you wish for, you keep. Have faith in your dreams, and someday, your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true. STEP-SISTER #1: It isn’t easy being the ugly stepsister. Everybody always feels so sorry for poor little Cinderella, but what about me? I deserve a little sympathy, too. Does my fairy godmother ever turn up with a magic wand, does the prince ever dance with me at the ball, not on your life. The best I can ever hope for with my pumpkins is a decent piece of pie. And as for the rats, well, rats are rats, with their sneaky eyes and skinny tails, nibbling and gnawing at the garbage. I never saw one yet who turned into a coachman. STEP-SISTER #2: If you ask me, that Cinderella is weird. Certainly she isn’t normal. Besides the fact that she has naturally curly hair and wears 4 and half sized shoes, she is so good-natured that it’s downright sickening. If you had to dust and sweep and clean all day long, would you go around singing to the birds? Of course you wouldn’t. No sensible person would. PRINCE: See that the slipper is tried on every young girl in the Kingdom, every last one no matter how unlikely she looks. You are to keep trying until you find the one that fits! Do you understand? Find that girl! HERALD: Hear ye, Hear ye, Hear ye all! A royal proclamation! A holiday is hereby proclaimed! Let every bank be closed! Let every shop be closed! Let every school be closed! Today is the day of the ball!!!!

Session 2: DISNEY’S MULAN, JR. **Boys and girls can choose to do any part for your audition – just pick your favorite monologue. And remember, feel free to let it be big! MUSHU: Did I hear someone ask for a miracle?! Lemme hear ya say “AAH!” That’s close enough! Get ready, Mulan, your seventeenth halation is at hand, for I have been sent by your ancestors to guide you through your masquerade! (Looks down at Crickee) Come on, you’re gonna stay, you’re gonna work with me. (To Mulan) So heed my words, cause if the army finds out you’re a girl, the penalty is death. Who am I? WHO am I?! I am the guardian of lost souls, I am the powerful, the pleasurable, the indestructible…..MUSHU! MULAN: I should have never left home. Maybe I didn't go just for my father. Maybe what I really wanted was to prove I could do something right. To know that I could be more than just someone's daughter or someone's wife. So when I looked in the mirror... SHAN-YU: Halt! (The marching stops.) Congratulations! You Chinese scouts have found the Hun army - and have the great misfortune of colliding with me, ShanYu, Leader of the Huns! I will destroy you and anyone who gets in the way of my defeat of China! YAO: (YAO elbows his way out in front.) Private Yao, reporting for duty, sir. You might just wanna make me a general right now. 'Cuz I am loaded with potential. And if any of youse disagree... then maybe you'd like to meet a couple of friends of mine......Mr. Po.....

Session 2: SHREK **Boys and girls can choose to do any part for your audition; any 30-60 second contemporary monologue will also work.

GINGERBREAD MAN: Ohhh gosh. Uh oh, what’s happening now? Ohhh this is scary. Ohhh, geez. Ohhh nooo! Oh, it’s you. (With disgust) Look what you’ve done to my legs! You’re a monster! You say that the fairytale characters have poisoned your kingdom? It’s not a kingdom because you’re not a king! You want me to tell you where you can find a princess to marry? Bite me! Okay, well, maybe I have heard tell of a princess. From who? From the Muffin man. Do you know the muffin man? Who lives on Drury lane? Can I go now? No! Not the buttons! Not my gumdrop buttons! FARQUAAD: Listen cookie, you still haven’t told me where the princess is. Oh, she’s in a dragon-guarded castle surrounded by hot lava. Well that sounds dangerous. She’s in the highest room in the tallest tower, you say? The Princess Fiona with fiery red hair. Ooo, Princess Fiona, she sounds perfect. Except for that dragon and lava thing. I’ll have to find someone else to go rescue her. Captain, round up your men, summon the citizens and bring that cookie to the swamp. Thelonius, tell the royal coiffure I need to get my hair pressed. We’re going to get a queen. FIONA: Donkey, it’s okay! Shhh! Donkey, I am the princess. It’s me – in this body. No, I didn’t eat the princess. “By day one way by night another – this shall be the norm until you find true loves first kiss, and then take loves true form” No, Donkey it’s not a poem it’s a curse. I’ve had it since I was a girl. A witch cast a spell on me. So now every night, when the sun goes down I become this . . . this horrible, ugly beast. Donkey, if lord Farquaad finds out I look like this, he’ll never marry me. I have to kiss my true love. The kiss is the only thing that will break the spell and make me beautiful. Tell Shrek? No! He can’t know! And you can’t tell him! No one must ever know! Promise you won’t tell. SHREK: Stop the wedding! Fiona, I need to talk to you. You can’t marry him. Because, because - - he’s just marrying you so he can be king. He’s not your true love. What do I know about true love? Well, uh . . .Um . . . I know I’m not the handsome prince, but if true love is blind maybe you won’t mind the view. Fiona, I am your true love. We make a perfect pair. I thought that love was only true in fairy tales but then I saw your face. Now I’m a believer. FAIRYTALE CHARACTER: Now wait a minute! Maybe that ogre wasn’t the answer but something better will come along, and we have to wait for it, because that’s what fairytale characters do. We wait for miracles. We wish upon stars. We just need to lay low until this all blows over. Down with Farquaad! Power to piggies and the big bad wolf, and the three bears, and the sugar plum fairy!

#1: “I’m Late! I’m Late! For a very important date, no time to stay! Hello! Goodbye! I’m late! I’m late! I’m late!” #2: “Ow! Ow! Ow! What a curious place. I wonder how many miles I’ve fallen. I know it sounds most odd, but I just fell down a rabbit hole. Oh, I swear it’s true. I’ve never been known to lie. You see, I was sitting by my sister in an open field. I was bored. I often am. Once or twice, I peeped into the book my sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversation in it. And what is the use of a book without pictures or conversations?” #3: Fury said to a mouse, That he met in the house, Let us both go to the law; I will prosecute you. Come, I’ll take no denial: We must have a trial; For really this morning I’ve nothing to do. Said the mouse to the cur, Such a trial, dear sir, With no jury or judge, Would be wasting our breath. I’ll be the judge, I’ll be the jury, Said cunning old fury.

Session: ANNIE **Boys and girls can choose to do any part for your audition – just pick your favorite monologue. And remember, feel free to let it be big!

#1: It was my Mama, Annie. We was ridin’ on the ferry boat. And she was holdin’ me up to see all the big ships. And then she was walkin’ away, wavin’. And I couldn’t find her no more. Any place. #2: You’re darned tootin’, when I’m not making money, nobody is. And gosh darn it, Barney, your pal Roosevelt has got to do something drastic. He’s got to come up with a new approach, a new plan, a new………something ……….Yes, I’ll know he’s a Democrat but he’s a human being too. Yes, I’ll talk to you about it. Come over here tonight. Tonight….tonight I’ve got a date to go to the movies…..with a ten-year-old girl. #3: Brought me the wonderful news that Annie, one of the orphans from here, Annie, God I hate that kid, is getting’ adopted by Warbucks. Gonna have everything. That rotten kid is gonna have everything. #4: This locket, my Mom and Dad left it…..when they left me at the Orphanage. And a note, too. They’re coming back for me. I know I’m real lucky, being here with you for Christmas. But, the one thing I want in all the world…....is to find my mother and father. And to be like other kids, with folks of my own.

Dear Campers, We can’t wait to meet many new faces in camp this summer. If you have a different piece from any play, musical, or movie, or something additional that you would like to use for your audition, feel free to do so. Remember, we all support you, and we want to see you do your best, and we will help you to bring out your best throughout the summer camp experience. We will help you to grow as an actor, and want you to have a lot of fun in the process.

From all of us to you, we look forward to seeing you this summer!

Session: INTO THE WOODS **For Into the Woods auditions, a 30 to 60 second contemporary monologue would be satisfactory as well. #1: There’s a dead Giant in my backyard! I heard Jack coming down the beanstalk, calling for his axe. And, when he reached the bottom, he took it and began hacking down the stalk. Suddenly, with a tremendous crash, the beanstalk fell, but there was no Jack. For all I know, he’s been crushed by the ridiculously large Giant. Well if he’s been crushed, there is nothing any us can do about that, but doesn’t anyone care a Giant has fallen from the sky? #2: And so the mysterious man died, having helped end the curse on his house. For the baker, there would be no reunion with his father, and he and his wife, bewildered, returned home. The Witch, who had been punished with age and ugliness that night when her beans had been stolen and the lightning flashed, was now returned to her former state of youth and beauty. And Milky-White, after a night of severe indigestion, was reunited with the now wealthy Jack. As for Rapunzel, she lived impoverished in the desert until the day her Prince, wandering aimlessly, heard a voice so familiar he went towards it. #3: In the past, when you were no more than a babe, your father brought his young wife and you to this cottage. They were a handsome couple, but not handsome neighbors. You see, your mother was with child and she developed an unusual appetite. She took one look at my beautiful garden and told your father that what she wanted more than anything in the world was … Beans!

MORE SUGGESTED MONOLOGUES FOR ALL 6 SHOWS CAN BE FOUND ONLINE OR ONCE ENROLLED! **In your audition, try and express whom you are speaking to and what you want from them. Memorization is not necessary! Just be present. If memorizing helps to achieve that goal then it is fine, but being memorized or not memorized has little to nothing to with the casting process. Also, you can do just a portion of any of these auditions.

**Boys and girls can choose to do any part (or something else) for your audition – just pick your favorite monologue. And remember, feel free to let it be big! Also, any 30-60 second contemporary monologue will also work. Break a leg! And most important of all, have fun!

Disney’s “THE JUNGLE BOOK”, Kids (Ages 5-8), SESSION 1 BAGHEERA: That does it! From now on, you are listening to what I say. Now, I am going to start walking to the village and you are going to follow me. Make no mistake about it, you are going home.

Disney’s “CINDERELLA”, Kids (Ages 5-8), SESSION 2 STEP-SISTER #2: If you ask me, that Cinderella is weird.

“THE WIZARD OF OZ” (Ages 9-12), SESSION 1 #3: Who killed my sister?

Disney’s “MULAN”, Jr. (Ages 9-12), SESSION 2 MUSHU: Did I hear someone ask for a miracle?!

Monty Python’s “SPAMALOT” (Ages 13-18), SESSION 1 HISTORIAN: “And so, King Arthur gathered more Knights together, bringing from all the corners of the Kingdom the strongest and bravest in the land to sit at the Round Table.

DreamWorks’ “SHREK” (Ages 12-18), SESSION 2 SHREK: Stop the wedding!
