ServSafe® 6th Edition Frequently Asked Questions March 29, 2011     

Optimized content that is streamlined in areas covering microbiology of pathogens, seafood toxins, chemical contamination, sanitary facilities and cleaners and cleaning programs Recalibration of content covering methods for calibrating thermometers, handling employee illnesses, active managerial control and HACCP, food defense, lighting requirements, 4-hour rule, crisis management backflow prevention, and receiving and inspection. New content covering recalls and cleaning in place equipment Focused content that eliminates areas covering training techniques, pest management, unique preparation practices—handling juice and batter/breading and the inspection process. New images, real world-stories, and improved study questions.

Q. Why did the ServSafe Essentials book name change to ServSafe Manager Book? To better reflect the role of the training audience. It is more consistent with the naming of all of the ServSafe products, for example, the ServSafe Food Handler Guide is for training food handlers.

Q: Can I purchase the ServSafe Manager Book by the case? th

Yes. The ServSafe Manager Book (formerly ServSafe Essentials) case contains 16 books, same as the 5 Edition. th

th

Q. Is the ServSafe Manager Books (formerly ServSafe Essentials), 6 Edition, smaller than the 5 Edition? How many total pages in the book? th

Yes. The 6 Edition book is about one-third less in pages but not necessarily content. Many of the same core concepts are presented but they are presented in a significantly different way. With a more intense focus on the preventative measures of food safety, some areas were streamlined, some reduced or eliminated and then there is new content. All the changes combined resulted in approximately the same amount of topics done with fewer pages. 230 pages

Q. If the size of the book decreased, why did not prices decrease? While the page count is less it does not necessarily mean there is less content. The training still meets all regulatory requirements from a length of training standpoint and therefore, the value of the overall course is still the same. Also, prices are now in sync with printing costs as prices have remained stagnant over the years.
