With “Love in Truth and in Deed” as its motto and as well as its educational philosophy, Hanyang University (HYU) has produced countless leaders and professionals over the years in virtually every area of society. Hanyang remains dedicated to cultivating well-rounded, practice-oriented graduates who are willing and able to lead as well as serve their community and country, both domestically and abroad. Consequently, the University has become a symbol of strength and a source of inspiration for many. For over 70 years, HYU has continued to grow, develop, and expand in efforts to test new ground and reach new heights. Like the phoenix from the ashes, Hanyang emerged from within a tumultuous atmosphere to ultimately help advance the nation in its modernization efforts. Although the often uncertain road to progress has been challenging and daunting, obstacles have been overcome and new paths blazed. I believe that the ability to endure and prevail is what marks the true character of an institution of higher learning. Perseverance despite tribulations, and focus in spite of uncertainty demonstrate the commitment necessary for survival and subsequent success. Now with unbridled enthusiasm and high expectations, HYU is endeavoring to achieve a dream called, “New Hanyang 2020.” This is a plan the University has implemented as a means to further advance and develop, and to achieve international recognition. Hanyang University was established in 1939 by visionary Dr. LyunJoon “Baiknam” Kim, as a result of his desire to open Korea’s first private college of engineering to empower his people under exploitive Japanese occupation. Since then, Hanyang’s graduates have made names for themselves on every level of society. Hanyang University prides itself on cultivating individuals who can serve their communities through practical education, while also actively pursuing ways to positively contribute to any organization with which they are a part. Hanyang has come a long way from its humble beginning as DongA Polytechnic Institute, and more dynamic transformations are expected in the years to come.

Founder and late Dr. LyunJoon “Baiknam” Kim’s ambitious yet honorable dream of education, training, and service ‘of the people for the people’ has resulted in the splendid reality we know today as Hanyang University. Dr. Kim’s noble pursuit of education and philanthropy has served as the model for which the University has based its philosophy and focus. Although Dr. Kim is no longer with us, his pioneering spirit and vision live on through the legacy of the University’s commitment to excellence that he left behind. Let his example be a constant reminder to us that even seemingly impossible dreams can be achieved through faith and conviction.

Circle – Symbolizes the world, and the determination of Hanyangians to advance in the global arena. HANYANG UNIVERSITY - The capitalized name represents the boldness and strength of Hanyang in its endeavors, while the white color signifies the purity of knowledge and the University’s pursuit of it. Background - The exaggerated silhouette of the University’s name in Korean (한양), Han & Yang, symbolizes the broad base or foundation of Hanyang, while in blue to represent truth and justice. The first word “Han” refers to people, and “Yang” means power or energy. 1939 – The year the University was established is located under the Hanyang name to indicate support and depth, much like roots of a tree. Forsythia – Hanyang’s official flower, is a robust colored herald of spring that bursts into bloom even in harsh and desolate surroundings. The band of forsythias covering the base of the seal represents support while also serving as a symbol of beauty, perseverance, enthusiasm, and hope. Dot - The dot represents balance and symmetry, accentuating the need for harmony in one’s surroundings, and appears at the bottom of the seal as a subtle reminder.

The slogan of the University’s “New Hanyang 2020” plan, which is a mid- to long-term development strategy, is “Power Up HY.” This simple phrase was devised to express Hanyang’s intention to double its brand power, human resource power, and assets power by the year 2020. The result will be the paving of the way for the University to realize its goal of becoming one of the world’s top 100 ranking universities by 2039 (which will mark the University’s 100th anniversary).

Seoul Campus Located at the center of Seoul, HYU offers high accessibility to anywhere in the city. In fact, the Hanyang University Station on Subway Line 2 lies within the campus, providing safe and convenient transportation for patrons and guests alike.
Seoul Korea’s capital city of Seoul occupies the center of the Korean Peninsula near the western coast. The Han River, the lifeline of the Korean people, meanders roughly east to west through the urban landscape of this ancient city, which was selected under principles of traditional geomancy. Today, Seoul is listed among the world’s most recommended cities, boasting among other things, a fascinating mix of new and old, modern and traditional, exotic and familiar, with various tourist sites, places of interest, and wide variety of culinary delights to enjoy. Moreover, Seoul’s extensive, cheaply priced, and clean subway system is ranked among the best in the world, rendering traveling throughout the city, convenient and comfortable. And, as Korea is now recognized as the ‘most wired country in the world,’ Internet access is ubiquitous, making contact within and outside the country quick and easy.
ERICA Campus The ERICA campus in Ansan, Gyeonggi-Do (Province), sits approximately 40km south of Seoul. There are buses that operate to the Hanyang University Subway Station (Green Line No. 2) and the Ansan Subway Station (Light Blue Line No. 4), from the Intercity Bus Terminal and vice versa. There is also a free shuttle bus service between the campuses, making transportation safe and convenient.
Ansan The city of Ansan in western Gyeonggi-Do (Province) is home to a population of over 700,000 and highly accessible to Seoul and other areas. Ansan is known as a ‘techno city’ and is being promoted as an ideal locale for business and industry, with such resident enterprises and institutes including the Gyeonggi Technopark, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH), Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), and Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). Hanyang’s second campus there is responsible for the creation of the industryuniversity-research cluster. Moreover, the Sihwa MTV (Multi-Techno Valley), which covers an area of 9.25km², is the base of operations for numerous venture and IT firms, state-of-the-art facilities, and new materials companies. Ansan is also home to a large contingent of foreign workers, with the Wongok-dong area designated as a MultiCultural Special Zone.

R&D Hanyang
As part of its effort to transform into a world-class research institution of higher learning, Hanyang has designated “Outreaching Research Competitiveness” as one of its key strategic directions under the NEW HANYANG 2020 plan. For its part, the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation (IUCF) is working to promote more individual and collaborative research at HYU by providing funding for research projects from their initial stage, and offering assistance in the publication of research papers in prominent international journals, among other duties.
World-Class R&D Capacity Hanyang’s faculty and staff includes world-class researchers in the fields of materials and chemical engineering. The University also boasts a publication record of 9.4 SCI papers per person, which surpasses the average for many leading universities around the world. HYU ranks fifth among Korean universities in terms of journal publications, with 1,929 papers in SCI journals. Hanyang also receives extensive government and corporate research grants, including the Metropolitan University Specialization Project grant (12.7 billion won over four years), which allows the HYU to provide ample scholarships and research funding for its MS- and PhD-level research personnel.
Optimal Support for the R&D Environment Due to its outstanding research achievements, HYU receives more than 100 billion won each year in R&D funding from the Korean Government and various businesses within and outside the country. R&D collaboration with such leading enterprises as Samsung, LG, Hynix Semiconductor, and Hyundai Motors is becoming particularly more active, while research collaboration with Japanese and American companies is also expanding. In 2009, HYU received 169.8 billion won in R&D funding and recorded a cumulative total of 2,351 patent applications filed.
Korea’s Representative R&D Cluster Hanyang is currently operating the Components and Materials R&D Cluster of international standards at the ERICA Campus. Resident government research institutes in this designated “Cluster Zone” include KITECH, KTL, and KERI. Research centers for such private companies as LG Innotek and LG Micron also have a presence there.
28 Projects Selected for Brain Korea 21 Phase II An impressive total of 28 project teams from Hanyang were selected for Brain Korea (BK21) Phase II project, which is the second stage of the Korean government sponsored program that seeks to develop and promote world-class research universities. HYU enjoyed particular success in the field of science and technology, with all project teams that applied being selected for the program. Over the next seven years, HYU will receive 15.4 billion won a year in government funding for BK21 research.
Korea’s Top Performer in Technology Transfers, HYU Hanyang currently ranks number one among Korean universities in technology transfer revenues, earning more than 10 billion won between 2006 and 2009. Moreover, the HYU Center for Business Incubation is consistently recognized for its standard of excellence each year by the Ministry of Information and Communication. In addition to the domestic market, the Center has also making inroads into China by establishing a local presence in Shanghai. Furthermore, HYU is the only Korean university to earn the highest rating for five consecutive years in the University led TLO (Technology Licensing Office) program supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. Most recently, the Center successfully transferred the pico porous polymer membrane technology to a global enterprise.
Technology Holding Company, “HYU Holdings” Hanyang is the first Korean university to operate a technology holding company. HYU Holdings oversees successful projects that are involved in efforts to maximize the University’s advantages in terms of its superior technological know-how, top-class research personnel, extensive alumni network, systematically managed industry-university infrastructure, and practice-oriented philosophy. Not surprisingly, one of the main objectives of this organization is to help Hanyang achieve favorable world ranking status among other universities. HYU Holdings is doing so by carefully defining its corporate objectives, and effectively managing its R&D assets and resources. HYU Holdings is in charge of programs such as the CCSP, which focuses on identifying promising technologies for commercialization, and the BSMP, which aims at supporting and managing subsidiary enterprises.

Hanyang has been heavily investing much time, personnel, and expense in efforts to further globalize, with the aim of achieving world ranking among the top 100 universities. Industry-university cooperation is the driving force behind Hanyang successful efforts to put ideas and innovation into practice. In 2003, HYU launched the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation (IUCF), a first among Korea’s private universities, in order to create a cooperative environment that was conducive to substantial research and high quality professional training. The IUCF operates various entities for industry collaboration including the Center for Business Incubation (CBI) and the Technology Transfer Center (TTC), where R&D, technology transfer, and business startup are supported. Cultivating Outstanding Graduates:
Educational Programs
Hanyang graduates can be found in top positions on virtually all levels of society. They are giants of industry, pioneers and innovators, administrators and educators, leaders and public servants. HYU’s goal, in line with its founding philosophy of “Love in Truth and in Deed,” has been the cultivation of outstanding graduates who are both willing and able to render position contributions to the organizations and communities with which they are surrounded. Practical education and professional training are among Hanyang’s many keys to success.
Honors Program Hanyang University was granted the opportunity by the Korean government to launch a pilot Honors Program for gifted students. The focus is on the promotion of advanced science and engineering education with the goal of developing future world class scientists and engineers. With official support from the government, HYU overseas the entire program, student selection to the curriculum and finally administration.
HELP (Hanyang Essential Leadership Plus) The Hanyang Essential Leadership Plus program or HELP is HYU’s representative leadership development program. This systematic project has been carefully structured to ultimately instill in the students, the personal confidence and professional skills necessary to become tomorrow’s leaders needed by industry and society.
Leadership Certification Program In addition to operating HELP, the university also offers a leadership certification program in which the students can earn a certificate that is recognized by the Hanyang president. To do so, students must to choose from various leadership courses, enroll, and gain a specific number of course credits.
Young Leaders in Hanyang The purpose of the Young Leaders in Hanyang Program is to nurture next generation leaders who understand and prac-
tice HYU’s founding philosophy of “Love in Deed.” During the period of one year, students participate in various leadershipbuilding events in order to acquiring the qualities and virtues essential to becoming future leaders. Part of the program allows students take part in the development and administration of the HELP program and to present their own opinions on the courses and lectures, which are then presented to the Leadership Center. The students also review the contents of new and modified courses, and are asked to come up with fresh ideas for classes.
Hanyang Diamond Program This program was designed to produce internationally competitive leaders, and consists of the top 1% of students in six select areas including the HYU Preparing Future Faculty Program, the Department of Energy Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering (in the College of Engineering), the Department of Policy (in the College of Policy Sciences), the Department of Finance (in the College of Business), and the Special Screening for Outstanding Engineering Talent Program.
Honor Program This program was first launched in the spring of 2008. Each semester, outstanding students apply to the program, and qualifying students are selected through a rigorous screening process that includes MBTI assessments and in-person interviews. The aim of this program is to educate and train practice-oriented individuals who can successfully adapt and exceed in the international community.
Honors students receive more intensive and differentiated education in this specially designed program, and work to create synergy effects through exchanges and competition with students in other majors.
APEX (Advanced Program of English Xpress) English Camp APEX (Advanced Program of English Xpress) is a short intensive program involving the acquisition English conversation skills operated by the ERICA Campus’ International Language Institute. This five-week program takes place during the school summer vacation, and provides focused, rigorous English education by native-speaking instructors in an English-immersed environment created by dormitory living.
FinD*-SELF Educational Program FinD*-SELF is an educational program for freshmen students administered by the Center for Educating Creative Talent, which is the student residence facility on the ERICA Campus. “FinD” stands for “Freshman in the Dormitory,” while “SELF” is an acronym for “Service, Exploration, Leadership, and Friendship.” The program emphasizes character building and etiquette education, with instruction being in English (to help student improve their English proficiency). The objective is for first-year students to learn about the spirit of service, to build their leadership skills, and cultivate a sense of community, in order to develop a stronger sense selfidentity.

Hanyang’s College of Engineering has its origins in DongA Polytechnic Institute, which first opened its doors in 1939, and evolved into the institution that is known as Hanyang University today. System Courses: All curricular programs in Medicine and Premedicine consist of system courses. System courses involve a pedagogical method in the field of medicine, designed to provide students with efficient self-directed learning. There is emphasis on clinical practice through OSCE, CPX, PBL, and so on, as a means of honing skills and capabilities. Infrastructure: The College of Medicine provides an ideal environment for medical learning, with an anatomy lab equipped with high-precision cameras and 40-inch monitors, a state-of-the-art computer lab with provisions for microscopy practice, a skill lab where students can learn through modeling, and more. Careers: Graduates of the College of Medicine receive an MD degree and are required to pass a set of examinations to acquire their license for medical practice. The College of Economics and Finance was recently renamed from the College of Business and Economics and aims to meet the rapidly changing demands of society by providing students with both the analytical and practical tools needed in the economics and finance fields. The College offers not only basic economics courses but also programs in financial microeconomics, financial econometrics, global financial markets, economics of technology and knowledge, regulation and competition in the information economy, environmental economics, social security programs and other public policies, and international cooperation and bargaining. Other offered courses include financial informational technology, economic analysis, financial consulting, and digital economy. Students are recommended to take English as a Second Language and programming languages such as C++, Java, and SQL as a third language for the purpose of increasing opportunities as successful economists and consultants in the digital economy of the 21st century. In order to help students focus on at least one field of their choice in economics and finance, the undergraduate program of the College offers a career-path-oriented program (sequences of related courses) and honor programs, as well as internship opportunities in business and governmental agencies. The College of Business begin in February 1959, when the Engineering Institute for National Foundation (currently the Hanyang College of Engineering) was upgraded to the nation’s first four year Engineering College and became Hanyang University. At that time, the College of Business was part of the College of Political Science and Economics. Then in 1963, the College separated to form the College of Business and Economics. The major in Business Administration was added in December of 1966. Later in March of 1993, the Business Administration Research Center was established. Next, in October 2000, the College of Business and Economics split into two separate colleges - the College of Economics and Finance, and the College of Business - in order to become more specialized. Subsequently, in 2006, the Graduate School of Management’s MBA program was launched, followed by the moving of the College of Business into its new building. The College is striving to adhere to its mission of “Creativity, Integrity and Collaboration” in order to become the nation’s leader, and to do so, it is focusing on creative teaching and research methodologies as well as promoting business ethics and collaboration among its students. AACSB Accreditation: As of 2010, less than 5% of the world’s business schools are accredited in the world, and in Korea, only eight schools including Hanyang University have accreditation. (In Japan, only two schools Nagoya University and Keio University are accredited.) Mentoring Workshop: By matching current students with expert senior alumni who actually work in the field, students are able to gain practical know-how and advice that help prepare them for the actual job market. This program was started in May 2009 with this purpose in mind and is held twice a year. Each mentor-mentee match-up is maintained for six months, and various speeches and events are held in order for them to complete a joint project, as well as to promote friendship. Numerous Students Pass the CPA Exam: Beginning in 2006, the number of students who pass the CPA Exam has been increasing. In 2009, there were 66 students who passed the exam, ranking Hanyang 4th among Korean universities. With increased facilities and more interest, the number is expected to increase.

In order to realize Hanyang University’s ‘HYU Project 2020,’ and to produce professional teachers and education experts in this digital era, the College of Education has begun educating and training its students with the latest tools and advanced teaching methods to properly transform the classroom into a more effective learning environment. The College has a history and tradition spanning 40 years, and was recognized by the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development as a prestigious institution of education in 2003. The College of Education currently has 6 departments, and offers various areas of study including international programs and overseas teaching practicum opportunities for pre-service teachers. The goal is to produce active and creative teachers and education experts for the domestic and international communities. The College has been producing the secondary education teachers in the Departments of Korean Language Education, English Education, Mathematics Education, and Applied Arts Education, and while education experts can be found from the Department of Education and the Department of Educational Technology, which are among Korea’s top ranking. There are currently about 20,000 alumni and about six hundred students enrolled. Thanks to the family of Hanyang schools, namely Hanyang Elementary School, Hanyang Middle School (on the main campus), Hanyang Girl’s High School (adjacent to the main campus), and other cooperating secondary schools, students are provided ample opportunities to gain actual experience and hands-on training. The College of Physical Education at the Seoul Campus consists of the Department of Physical Education and the Department of Sports Industry & Management. Focus of the College is on the scientific progress of physical education in response to the growing demand for knowledgeable sports professionals. Beginning as the Department of Physical Education in the College of Liberal Arts in 1963, the name was changed to the College of Physical Education the following year (1964). The College was relocated to the Olympic Gymnasium in 1986, and two decades later, the Department of Dance was reformed at the Faculty of Arts in 2006. The Hanyang Film Festival selects and screens 15 student films from more than 100 produced each year, along with shorts by recent graduates and directors who are alumni of HYU. An incubator for future international professionals who will lead Korea’s continued globalization efforts
Ongoing changes in the global environment have created an urgent demand for professionals who can successfully adapt and complete in the international arena. Consequently, the Division of International Studies was established in 2004 for the purpose of cultivating globally minded professionals equipped with foreign language skills, expert knowledge of international affairs, and cosmopolitan sensibilities and values. The curriculum was designed to spearhead Hanyang’s internationalization efforts through the creation of a system of international studies education. This system is geared towards assisting the students in their post-graduation employment search, real-life applications of the knowledge they gain, and inspiring the students to actively contribute to their communities. The program recruits foreign faculty, and all courses are conducted in English. The student body consists of outstanding foreign students and overseas Koreans. During the first and second years, students complete general courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences across a wide spectrum of disciplines, and build practical English skills by enrolling in courses on English composition, presentation, and debate. The College of Engineering Sciences was established in 1979 with three departments and 800 new students in Ansan (a strategically located city near the west coast of Korea), with the Banwol and Shiwa Industrial Parks nearby, amounting to 30% of the total number of national production facilities. The rising star of the bio-convergence industry
The College of Pharmacy was created in February 2010 after receiving final approval in the “Evaluation on the Creation and Personnel Allotment of the College of Pharmacy for the Academic Year 2011.” With the solid infrastructure of the ERICA Campus, Hanyang’s newly established College of Pharmacy is expected to gain recognition as a specialized school of pharmacology that has access to a convergent new medicine cluster. The launch of the College of Pharmacy completes the circle of medicine-engineering-pharmacology at HYU, an acknowledged leader in medical, engineering, and science education in Korea. The College also has larger implications for the possibility of convergence with various fields in the Humanities. For this reason and much more, the HYU College of Pharmacy will become a driving force in the future of the ERICA Campus. Distinctions and Careers
The curriculum of the College of Pharmacy is divided into the three fields namely clinical pharmacy, industrial pharmacy, and pharmacological research, each designed to train competent pharmacists. I nfrastructure: The newly constructed college building consists of one sublevel and six above-ground levels. With a total floor space of 12,097㎡ (3,660 pyeong), this structure contains undergraduate classrooms, graduate classrooms, labs for experimentation and pharmaceutical process practice, experiment preparation rooms, a pharmacy for actual practice, a computer lab, seminar rooms, an auditorium, student conference rooms, a reference room, rooms for extracurricular clubs, a student lounge, a general pharmacological evaluation preparation room, and so on. ew convergent drug cluster: This cluster seeks to vitalize research among faculty members in N the College of Pharmacy and related disciplines, and include the ERICA Institute for Drug Delivery System Research and various corporate research centers. The College of Science and Technology (CST) at the ERICA campus was established in October 1982 with three departments: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Two more departments, Biochemistry and Earth & Marine Science were added in 1983. Later in 1987, the College of Science was separated from the College of Engineering and Science. Then the College of Science was renamed the College of Science and Technology, and the Departments of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry were renamed the Departments of Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, and Applied Chemistry in 2000. In 2004, the College of Science and Technology was restructured to include two divisions: the Division of Science and Technology and the Division of Molecular & Life Science. In 2005, the Department of Earth & Marine Science was renamed the Department of Environmental Marine Sciences. Since its inception, CST has been providing innovative and highly acclaimed courses that cultivate creative basic research and encourage students to apply their scientific knowledge. The General Graduate School The history of general graduate programs at Hanyang began in 1953 with nine students in three master’s programs in the Departments of Electrical, Mechanical, and Chemical Engineering. Since then, the General Graduate School has evolved into one of Korea’s leading graduate institutions, where more than 4,000 students devote themselves to the pursuit of knowledge. With its 60th anniversary approaching in 2013, it is preparing to make the leap to becoming a more research-centric graduate school. Building on the foundation of research reform, educational reform, and infrastructure reform, the General Graduate School plans to produce a program consisting of exceptional faculty members, graduate students, and educational environments. Professional Graduate School Calls for more education specialization as led to the creation of Hanyang’s Professional Graduate School, which was founded on the tradition of practical learning. The Paiknam Academic Information Center & Library The Paiknam Academic Information Center & Library is a large, high technology facility that sits atop the University’s Seoul Campus at its highest peak. Various types of scholarly research and academic activities take place there, and students can utilize a number of resources for academia or recreation. The ERICA Campus has its own counterpart in the Ansan Information Center & Library. To ensure an efficient supply of information services, specialized librarians operate subject-specific rooms where students can find and consult references and information regarding specific subjects in one unified space. The Center has online capabilities allowing students to access the CD-NET, electronic journals, and bibliographical search databases, as well as manage personal information and request library books. The Center has an extensive archive of multimedia materials at students’ disposal.
The Hanyang University Medical Center To realize Hanyang’s founding philosophy of “Love in Truth and in Deed,” the Hanyang University Medical Center was opened in 1972 as one of the largest hospitals in Asia. Today, it has grown into one of Korea’s largest medical institutions consisting of the School of Medicine, HYU Hospitals in Seoul and Guri, Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, and the International Hospital & Health Promotion Center. The HYUMC’s goal is to educate ethical, responsible medical professionals, and to continually work to realize proper medical care.
The University Museum The University Museum collects, preserves, and exhibits a full range of anthropological artifacts and references related (but not limited) to the antiquity, history, culture, arts, and folk traditions of the Korean people. By furnishing educational materials, information, and exhibits to students and faculty as well as residents of the local community, the museum seeks to inspire a sense of pride in its patrons.
The Hanyang International Language Institute The Hanyang International Language Institute is dedicated to foreign language education for its students, faculty and staff, and the local community. The Institute offers a wide range of courses that are designed to focus on real-world applications. Language courses can be selected for English, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.
The University Press The Hanyang University Press was first established in March 1968.
Through the years, it has maintained its duties and responsibilities as both news provider and educator for interested and/or prospective journalists. The Press’ main functions involve academic publications and specialty publications, while it also engages in the development of books for the education of the general public, and publishes university textbooks as well as research results.
The Center for Continuing Education Founded in 1987, the Hanyang Center for Continuing Education operates a wide range of programs based a vast supply of resources and outstanding instructors. The Center provides learning opportunities for those who wish to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to work as active professionals and/or become cultured members of society. The Center also offers advanced programs that allow working professionals to take their knowledge, experience, and abilities to the next level.
Hanyang Volunteer Corps Perhaps the most obvious demonstration of Hanyang’s founding spirit of “Love in Truth and in Deed” is through the activities of the Hanyang Volunteer Corps, which was formed in 1944 as the first organization of its kind in Korea. The Corps helps students build character and social awareness by offering participants the opportunities to engage in real-life service experience under diverse conditions, and encouraging them to become proactive members of society. In this program, students are involved in various community and overseas volunteer activities each semester, thus practicing the ideals of neighborly love, patriotism, and philanthropy, while contributing to the establishment of a university culture rooted in public service. The Office of International Cooperation The Office of International Cooperation (OIC) is here to serve Hanyang’s international student body. The Office’s main responsibilities are in the areas of international relations, international education, and admissions. These areas are aiming to promote the competitiveness of the University. In addition, the OIC is also involved in managing and creating new programs in cooperation with universities overseas, as well as oversees recruitment of outstanding international students. Student Exchange Program Students from partner schools can study at Hanyang for up to one (1) academic year. More than 300 exchange students are hosted every semester, and over 500 courses are taught in English. Every semester students can choose to take either intensive or basic Korean language courses which are offered free of charge. Also through the program, Hanyang University students have the opportunity to study abroad at one of Hanyang’s sisterhood universities up to one (1) academic year. Hanyang annually dispatches approximately 500 students.
Through this program, Hanyang University dispatches an entire language department for one (1) semester to a sisterhood university located in a country where that language is the mother tongue, including: China

International Student Services Orientation Hanyang hosts an orientation session wherein various topics are covered including life in Korea, Hanyang University in general, a campus tour, information on obtaining the required alien registration card, the purchasing of a cell phone, and so on.
Mentoring Program In this program, every semester international students are paired with Korean students, one to one, in order to help the former group better adjust, and to increase international exposure and language proficiency of the latter.

International Program for Inbound Students Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) The Hanyang Inter national Summer School (HISS) opened its doors in 1997 as a means to encourage more international exchanges between Hanyang and its partner universities. Every year, HISS offers more than 40 courses that are taught in English to international students from around the globe. In the program, there are a wide-range of courses from which to choose including Korean Studies, Humanities, Business, Economics, International Relations, Media & Communication, Design, Science, Sports, and Korean language. International students can also experience aspects of Korean culture by participating in various field trips, excursions, and cultural programs.
Study Tour Program In this program, Hanyang invites groups of students from partner schools to stay in Seoul for one or two weeks to have opportunities to participate in various programs that include visits to world renowned industrial sites, cultural sites, special lectures, and so on. Through the program, students can gain a better understanding of Korean culture and industry.
Advising and consultation services are available for international students to help them more readily and comfortably adapt to their new surroundings. Counselors are on hand at the OIC to provide assistance and support when necessary.
Sporting Event Each year, Hanyang holds an athletic meet involving approximately 1,000 international students and Korean elementary school students combined, to expose both parties to each other in hopes of providing a fun, friendly, educational, and multicultural atmosphere.
Korean Cultural Field Trips Opportunities to learn about Korean history and culture firsthand are provided through three (3) Korean culture trips to various places of interests. Students who participate will be able to gain understanding and appreciation for aspects of this ancient land.
Cooperating with International Student Associations Every year, Hanyang sponsors the Foreign Student Council which is designed to contribute toward the building of networks to help international students adjust to campus and Korean life.
