The ranking 

Study scores are out of 50 and are a RANKING of all students undertaking a particular study.

The ATAR is an overall percentile RANKING.

These rankings are about hard work not intelligence.

Consistent effort equals a better rank.

Satisfactory Completion of Outcomes. In order to complete a unit satisfactorily and be awarded an S (satisfactory) for the unit a student must demonstrate achievement of each of the outcomes for that unit as specified in the Study Design.

Not Satisfactory Result If any of the outcomes are not achieved, the student receives an N (Not satisfactory) for the unit.

A student may not be granted satisfactory completion if: 

The work is not of the required standard.

The student has failed to meet a school deadline.

The work cannot be authenticated.

There has been a breach of rules including attendance rules.

Attendance 

Students need to attend sufficient class time to complete work.

Absence - 80% rule.

Doctor’s certificates or signed notes.

Absence from scheduled SAC’s requires a doctor’s certificate or equivalent.

Not satisfactory Result Letter 

If a student receives an “N” for any outcome a “Not satisfactory result letter” will be sent home addressed to you (the parents)

Students may appeal to the VCE committee in order to have the “N” decision reversed.

Special Provision

Derived exam scores.

Special Provision for severe health impairment or significant physical disability or learning disability or severe language disorder or hearing impairment or vision impairment.

Students will receive a VCE exams navigator

More details on VCE unit requirements are available in your son’s diary on page xvi and xvii
