TH E H ISTORY

PHOENIX has 40 years experience in developing and manufacturing sealing profiles and gaskets for the tunnelling industry. They are made of sophisticated and high quality Elastomer to meet the high standards and requirements with regard to durability and project life expectancy, whereby PHOENIX can look back on more than 150 years of experience in developing and manufacturing rubber compounds. Still today all Elastomer Sealing Profiles are manufactured at PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik GmbH (PDT) in Waltershausen, Germany.

PHOENIX Tunnel Seals For 150 years the former PHOENIX AG from Hamburg was one of the world’s largest producers of compounds and technical components made of rubber. PHOENIX products are made from high quality materials and are always distinguished by their high precision, and therefore they have been well established into the automotive and construction industry. They are also used in various other fields and applications. For 40 years the name PHOENIX also stood for various sealing solutions in the field of tunnelling, especially for mechanized tunnelling with single shell lining. PHOENIX has gained a market leading position by providing innovative ideas and tailor made product developments, protected by a number of 200 international patents.

Due to permanently changing and increasing requirements from project to project PDT continues to be innovative and therefore follows a long and successful tradition.

Today’s PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik (PDT) which arose from the subsidiary company PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik GmbH is an independent company and specializes in the product segments roof sheeting (PDT Waterproofing) and sealing profiles (PDT Profiles). Thus PDT Profiles will sustain the track record of developing and manufacturing high quality seals for tunnelling. Due to permanently changing and increasing requirements from project to project PDT continues to be innovative and therefore follows a 40 years long and successful tradition.

The latest development is a seal that is anchored into the concrete during the tunnel segment production process. This system will make segment production and gasket installation easier and faster, without the costly glueing process, and avoiding detrimental effects on the environment. Furthermore, PHOENIX now offers self-sticking EPDM-packers for load-distribution between the segments in the circumferential joints as well as EPDM-based hydrophilics.

A SPECIALTY

Anchored within the concrete, this option offers an array of advantages with regard to safety and installation. These seals do not require adhesive and therefore they also save on labour costs and negate the need for environmental precautions to be taken.

The “Evolution Seal” combines two different sealing technologies – a compression seal and a hydro-swelling strip. Using this system the capsulated hydro-swelling strip offers additional safety without the typical disadvantages.
