Bayside Academy sets limits on the number of AP courses a student may take and requires the AP exam. Scores reported are for all AP-enrolled students. Bayside has a generous AP enrollment policy that subscribes to the belief that AP course work is beneficial to the students. BAYSIDE ACADEMY 2015-2016 PROFILE

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Students are required to accumulate a minimum of 23 units of credit in grades 9-12 in order to graduate. Requirements by discipline and minimum units for graduating are shown below. Algebra and/or Geometry may be taken in grades 7 and 8 but classes do not earn high school credit. Upper School students must complete four years in advanced mathematics. All courses are college preparatory. Courses marked as advanced are honors in nature. AP courses are available and are enrollment driven. It is strongly recommended that a student take no more than three AP courses in one year. A student taking any AP course is required to take the AP exam. A special program exists throughout the school for students who have diagnosed learning disabilities/attention deficit disorders, etc. The Learning Place serves the needs of LD/ADD students. Individual exemptions to graduation requirements may be made for students with documented special needs. Any exception to the required program must be approved by the administration. GRADING Bayside uses the scale listed. Grades earned prior to entry in the ninth grade are not calculated in the GPA. The grading scale appears on the transcripts. O, S, N and U grades are not calculated in the GPA. The numerical grades that are reported are unweighted. Both weighted and unweighted GPAs are calculated and recorded on the transcript. All grades are used in calculating the GPA. In determining the weighted GPA, As, Bs and Cs in AP as well as Advanced Chemistry II (a college-level class that has replaced AP Chemistry in the curriculum) are weighted by a 1.0 factor. All other advanced courses are weighted by a .5 factor. In the GPA calculation for transfer students, no additional weight is given for students who were enrolled in traditional college prep classes; no accommodation is made for grades labeled +/-, and Bayside’s weighting system is applied to the Bayside cumulative GPA. Bayside Academy reports grades on a semester basis. Students are not ranked. Bell ringers are the two sophomores with the highest GPAs; marshals are the four

juniors with the highest GPAs. On request, the students who occupy positions 1 and 2 in a senior class may be identified. Upon graduation, 100% of graduates attend college (see Testing & Placement Section of profile).
