24th Annual Heritage Days Car Show Sponsored by North Shore Classics

Submitted by: Ruth Rabold MSRA #20826

If you attended the MSRA Fall Campout up north in Two Harbors in 2012 and 2013, you will know that the North Shore has lots to offer with regard to small-town hospitality and the beauty of Lake Superior and the surrounding area. Two Harbors is the place to be the second weekend in July for its Heritage Days celebration. The dates for this event are Thursday through Sunday, July 8th-11th. The North Shore Classics Car Club will be sponsoring the 24th Annual Car Show this year and it is a great opportunity to make a trip back up north with your classic cars and enjoy an activity filled weekend in Two Harbors. The weekend’s activities start on Thursday evening with a kiddie parade, classic car cruise and band concert in the park with music provided by the Two Harbors City Band, the oldest City Band in the State of Minnesota. Friday’s activities include an arts and crafts fair & Civil War Living History on the waterfront, the traditional Lutefisk Toss and an evening street dance on “the main drag”. Saturday, the craft fair continues, a pancake breakfast is cooked up by the fire department and there’s live music, the car show and the parade, which is routed right past the car show site. Sunday features pancake breakfasts at the airport and the fire hall and more crafts and music. There are also church services in the park, both morning and evening. The full schedule of events can be viewed at: http://thheritagedays.com The car show is located at Danny’s Auto Shop, 625 3rd Avenue (the corner of 7th Street & 3rd Avenue in Two Harbors. Registration begins at 8am (be there by 11 to be eligible for the trophies) which will be awarded for the top

20 cars plus People’s Choice & Mayor’s Choice awards. Food will be available on site and the parade goes right by! Trophies and door prizes will be awarded at 3pm. This is an extremely popular event in Two Harbors and lodging fills quickly so you will want to reserve early if you are planning on making a weekend of it. Lodging options can be found at www.twoharborschamber. com. Additional attractions are the Two Harbors waterfront with views of Lake Superior & the ore shipping facility in Agate Bay. You may even have the opportunity to view 1,000 foot ships load iron ore and maneuver their way in and out of the harbor while you’re there. There are 4 museums within a short walk, including a floating tugboat and the Two Harbors Lighthouse B & B. Enjoy golfing at the 18 hole Lakeview National Golf Course which has some of the most spectacular vistas in the state. There are FIFTEEN STATE PARKS within a 100 mile radius of Two Harbors. FIVE of these are located within 55 miles along the North Shore, which has also been designated as a National Scenic Byway. You may want to take this opportunity to spend some additional time in the area experiencing all that Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region has to offer. They all feature spectacular scenery, each with their own special attributes. Take it from those of us who live here, it’s definitely worth the trip!
