2016 Summer Catalog Highlights:  Listing of classes, workshops, and seminars  Studio Schedule  Club Information

Summer-at-aGlance: Club Schedule For Quail Creek Fine Arts Painting Club members there is something happening throughout the entire calendar year, but the bulk of our programs occur during the October through April time period. During the May to September summer months when many seasonal residents are away and the weather is very hot, the air-conditioned Fine Arts Studio is an ideal place to spend time with fellow member artists. Take a class or workshop, enjoy open studio time or just browse the club library for inspiration.

The painting club: providing creative opportunities for Quail Creek residents.

Open Studio All clubs in the CATC Building are required to have a trained monitor on duty whenever members are present. The QCFAPC shares the Fine Arts Studio with two other clubs. See the schedule below. Clubs must make time available for “open studio” during which members can work on their own projects.

The Fine Arts Studio: Home to three clubs.

Fine Arts Room Schedule

Given the limited number of hours the painting club has exclusive use of the studio, the club has chosen a unique approach to ensure members have plenty of choices for open studio time. During all of the hours the club has the room, two tables are set aside for “open studio” use. This means even when classes, workshops and seminars are occurring, members can use these two designated tables for their own purposes. Open studio is not a way to take a free class, audit a class, or do any activity that takes away from the needs of students and teachers. Teachers serve as monitors for classes and have the right to ask anyone to leave the open studio tables, or to move as needed to another table. In addition, during the slower summer months there will be Open Studio every Monday from 1PM until 4PM, as well as Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9AM until noon.

Only the times shown in green are designated for exclusive use by our club. The time shown as “unscheduled” means all three clubs can use the room, but monitors for each club have to be present. Since most painters prefer not to work when the gourd club equipment is in use, we do not provide a monitor for unscheduled time. There are some evening hours not currently in use. If members have an interest in having the room open on Monday or Friday evening, please contact the president.

Description: Study Groups Many artists have a particular focus in their work, driven by the subject, not by the medium. The study group format will help members connect and learn with others who share a common interest. Rather than a formal class with an instructor, study groups are loosely organized around a theme. These groups typically have a member who is a facilitator, not a teacher. Study groups are intended for members only and are free of charge unless the group chooses to pool their resources as needed.

Study Groups: Members with a common interest.

Portrait & Figure Study Group Date/Time: Last meeting until next Fall will be Monday, April 25th from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Facilitator: Molly Hyde Medium/Level: All media and all levels welcome. No experience required. Must be able to work on your own. Fee: This free group is for members only. There is no instruction. A fee of $5.00 will be collected for those sessions when a model is present. Location: Fine Arts Studio in the CATC Building. Registration: Contact Molly Hyde at [email protected] or call 520-625-2944.

Drop In Freestyle Drawing Date/Time: Meets on the first and third Monday of the month from 3:00PM until 5:00PM. Facilitator: Ginny Hutcheson Medium/Level: All media and all levels welcome. Must be comfortable working on your own. Fee: This free group is for members only. Location: Fine Arts Studio in the CATC Building. Registration: None needed. Bring the medium of your choice. Description: Silk Scarf Adventure Workshop Join member artist Janet Brown for this fun oneday workshop in the traditional Japanese art of dyeing silk scarves. The focus of the workshop will be on the shibori technique of arashi, in which the fabric is bound to a pole and then scrunched up prior to applying the dye. Once Janet demonstrates the technique, each student will have the opportunity to create two scarves of their own. Time permitting, the serti method of silk dyeing will also be shown. This involves the use of a “resist” applied to the fabric and then dyed. The end result allows for images to appear on the fabric.
