Dr. Jennifer Johnson, MD, Ph.D and oncology social worker Lora Rhodes, MSW, LSW of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital will also discuss side effects, side-effect management, and tools to overcome the social and emotional challenges of the diagnosis. We hope to answer many of your questions about lung cancer to help you (or your loved one) manage the disease more successfully. Join us on Saturday, December 3 from 10:30am-12pm. Cancer Specific Support Groups Various cancer specific groups meet monthly to provide the emotional support for cancer patients and their loved ones. Support groups address various issues related to initial diagnosis, treatment, medication management, lifestyle changes, and other relevant concerns. Cooking Class Cooking class covers a variety of cancer-related nutrition topics and demonstrates how to prepare flavorful meals with nutritional value. Creative Expression Therapy and Art Therapy Both support groups use creative activities to address the effects of cancer, promote self-awareness, stress management, and more. Family and Friends Circle Family and Friends Circle is a support group for anyone who has a love one living with cancer. Latino Support Group Latino cancer support group meets monthly to provide emotional well-being services to cancer patients and their families. Look Good Feel Better Look Good Feel Better is a program that teaches beauty techniques to cancer patients to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Recreational Activities Fun filled activities for patients and their guest to relax and enjoy. Activities will be hosted in the lobby area in the form of arts and crafts, games, group activities, and more.

some much more difficult than others. Grief can turn your life upside down and it may feel like you’ll never return to any sense of balance. The Holiday Season gives added disruption to grief. But we can choose how we respond in a way that allows us to emerge on the other side with strength and a new perspective on life…which can even be transformative. Come prepared to have an open discussion on missing loved ones over the holidays as well as present ways to honor and celebrate their life. Ridgeland Art Collective: Canvas Painting Workshop facilitated by professional artist, Jerry Puryear Tuesday, December 6 • 10:30am-12:30pm Through collaboration with local artists, Ridgeland will provide a space for creative expression while honing the artistic talents of our members. The Ridgeland Art Collective is a project to enhance the Ridgeland Mansion and Ridgeland Barn with artwork created by CSCGP members. We welcome you to join us as we bring this effort into the new year!

The focus for December will be canvas painting; however, we also plan to provide opportunities to engage in other artistic mediums, such as pottery, and also opportunities to participate in art focused community outings in 2017! Ridgeland Holiday Party Tuesday, December 13 • 5:30-7:30pm It is that time of year when we invite all of you to our annual Ridgeland Holiday Party! All are welcome to attend this event, but RSVP is required. Dinner will be provided and we also plan to have live music. We ask that all members bring a dessert to share or an unopened paper product donation. Be prepared to dance, sing, and enjoy an evening of celebrating the holiday season with our Ridgeland community! Mindfulness Workshop: Honoring Joy and Sorrow During the Holidays • Saturday, December 17 • 12-2pm Grieving is a complex process that can become even more pronounced during the holiday season. Whether it is the loss of a loved one of the loss of your ability to celebrate the holidays in same manner as previous years, mindfulness meditation can provide an method for being able to handles these stressors. Mindfulness Instructor, Maria Fanelli, will guide this workshop in the use of mindfulness techniques and exercises to aid in the process of honoring joy and sorrow during the holidays. Holiday Cookie Exchange Thursday, December 22 • 12-1pm Think of this as a cookie potluck! RSVP is required with your name and the type of cookie that you plan to make for this event. Each person will bake a batch of cookies and bring it to the gathering. We will split the bounty of cookies amongst the group members in attendance during the holiday cookie exchange. This will allow each person to leave with a variety of cookies to enjoy as we continue on with our holiday season! Ridgeland Remembers: Gene Wilder in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Thursday, December 22 • 1-2:30pm Our monthly film series, “Ridgeland Remembers,” will highlight the life of an individual whose live has been impacted by cancer. As we bring 2016 to a close, we will begin this series by remembering the life of someone dear to our international organization, Gene Wilder. Gene Wilder was an honorary board member of the Cancer Support Community headquarters and also involved in the founding of Gilda’s Club Worldwide. He also participated in The Wellness Community Benjamin Center in Los Angeles with his late wife, Gilda Radner, when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Join us for this classic film, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, as we reminisce, enjoy a few laughs, and remember the life of Gene Wilder.
