What is hope; Is it purely optimism or a positive attitude? For all of us, our definition of hope can change throughout the year, or even from day to day. Our Celebration of Hope Conference aims to empower through knowledge, expand the mind and strengthen the body. On Thursday, October 20th, from 9:15am-2:30pm at the Ridgeland Mansion, professionals from across disciplines will come together to present best practices and research for nourishing people in treatment, after treatment, caregivers, and for those who have lost a loved one to cancer. Dr. Beth Dupree, MD of Holy Redeemer Healthcare will tell us how to go from “Surviving to Thriving”. Dr. Susan Kristiniak DHA, MSN, RN, AHN-BC, NEA-BC of the University of Pennsylvania Health System discussing the benefits of aromatherapy. Michelle Stortz, CYT, MFA specializing in yoga for people with cancer and chronic illness will lead an experiential class. Our Lunch Keynote will be Dr. Susan Apollon, Ph.D, intuitive psychologist and psychotherapist, discussing “Wholeness, Wellness & Balance: Understanding Energy and Its Impact on Cancer”. The afternoon continues with oncology social workers, Christina Bach MBE, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C, OncoLink Education Specialist and Psychosocial Content Editor & Eucharia Borden, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C, of Lankenau Hospital, leading a riveting discussion, “Uninsured to Underinsured: Strategies to Improve Financial Well-Being”. Simultaneously, Leehee Fai will lead an experiential class on mindfulness meditation. Local news star, Adam Joseph will provide us with closing remarks to end an incredible day. SEPTEMBER 2016 Children Saturday and Teen Program Gilda’s Club (Warminster) Kid Support (4-11), Teen Support (12-16 at Warminster only) and Parent Group are ten week peer support groups for kids and their parents/guardians. These groups are for kids/teens who have cancer in their life. It offers an opportunity to talk together, to learn together and to support each other. To request information about joining our next group in the fall, contact Christina, Children and Teen Coordinator at [email protected] Parent Orientation at Gilda’s Club Tuesday, September 27 • 6:30pm Parent Orientation at Ridgeland Thursday, September 15 • 6:30pm Parent Orientation is for families who are new to Kid Support. Ridgeland: Teen Support This group is for teens in 8th-11th grade, who are currently living with cancer in their lives. This program will run for six weeks from 6:30-8pm on Thursdays, starting September 22 through November 3 (skipping October 20). This group looks to engage teens to build a community outside of school, while learning new coping skills and having a place to talk with other teens. Registration is required. Family Healthy Eating with Tara Tuesday, September 6 • 6:30-8pm Tara Pellecchia will talk about healthy eating, with a focus on limiting added sugar and eating more fruit and vegetables. We will all make really easy “no bake apple pie” snacks. We will also talk about some other healthy snack ideas for families to make together. Sign up by Monday, September 5. Teen Expressions • Wednesday, September 7 • 6:30-8pm Middle school and high school teens are welcome to attend this art group. Learn a new way to express yourself and have fun while you do it. SEPTEMBER 2016 Cancer Specific Support Groups Various cancer specific groups meet monthly to provide the emotional support for cancer patients and their loved ones. Support groups address various issues related to initial diagnosis, treatment, medication management, lifestyle changes, and other relevant concerns. Creative Expression Therapy and Art Therapy Both support groups use creative activities to address the effects of cancer, promote self-awareness, stress management, and more. Family and Friends Circle Family and Friends Circle is a support group for anyone who has a loved one living with cancer. Hope and Healing Grief Support Group Hope and Healing is a support group for adults (18 years and older) who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Latino Support Group Latino support groups meets monthly to provide bilingual supportive services to cancer patients and their families. Look Good Feel Better Look Good Feel Better is a program that teaches beauty techniques to cancer patients to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Recreational Activities Fun filled activities for patients and their guest to relax and enjoy. Activities will be hosted in the lobby area in the form of arts and crafts, games, group activities, and more.

DJ Jared was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma four years ago and upon completing his treatment, he made the decision to share this music and art experience with all who have been impacted by cancer. This event will be an opportunity for our Noogie families to connect with each other as we prepare to begin our Ridgeland Kid Support, Teen Support, and Parent Support program for the 2016-2017 academic year.
