Airport Design

Airport Design This course will provide a range of skills and key insights into the design of airport infrastructure including both airside and passenger terminals. You will also be introduced to the appropriate and relevant regulatory requirements and to commonly adopted international design standards. The course also acts as a forum to informally discuss and explore key issues.

Why this course? Course overview The Airport Design course is intended to introduce key principles of airport design within a contemporary challenging environment of commercialisation. Leading industry experts and Cranfield lecturers support the Course Director in his ambition to provide a holistic view about the paradigm shift from airports as being isolated technical infrastructures to becoming integrated part within the urban environment. Who should attend? This course is of value and interest to: • Architects and engineers employed in airport planning and design • Airport managers • Airline managers with responsibility for liaison with airport operators • Government employees with an interest in, or responsibility for, airport operations and safety regulation.

Course objectives We provide an update of current design practice on an international basis. The course is particularly useful for those with limited experience in the design of specific areas of airport infrastructure and also for those who are seeking to refresh their knowledge. It is the only course of its type currently being offered in the UK.

Workshops will also be arranged so that delegates may discuss and evaluate a series of airport design challenges. All short course delegates will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

This short course is a module within the MSc in Airport Planning and Management which is accredited by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK). A one-week airport simulation workshop run by professional simulation experts concludes the Airport design module.

Henrik Rothe, Cranfield University Henrik is an accomplished architect with considerable expertise in airport planning, terminal design and urbanism. His extensive knowledge of working in 35 countries includes assignments as designer and strategic adviser.

Andy Foster, Cranfield University Senior Lecturer, Centre for Air Transport Management Graeme Power-Hosking, Bechtel A multi-skilled aviation professional with experience of consultancy and airport environments, planning, managing and delivering projects to international standards. Andrew Evans/Saf Ahmed, AECOM Andrew is Technical Director heading civil engineering projects including the new IGA Istanbul airport. Saf is an experienced Aviation Engineer and Design Manager, with a degree in Civil Engineering. Max Schintlmeister, Corinthia Airport Max gained experience from being MD at The Mobile Terminal Management GmbH, Freelance Consultancy Operational Readiness for Flughafen München GmbH and his own consultancy Airport Excellence rethinking airport business models. Niall Gunn, York Aviation Niall Gunn has managed a wide variety of airport capacity planning projects in the UK and Europe and has airport capacity planning expertise to the SESAR project, including fast time simulation software. Thomas Dworschak, Vienna Airport Thomas is Head of IT Control and Development. The department design and implement the ICT systems for the corporate divisions and subsidiaries of Vienna Airport Group.
