Premium Double Dutch Door Instructions

General Notes; -Read the entire instructions before you begin. -Wear appropriate safety gear when using saws, and drills. This may include, but is not limited to, safety glasses, hearing protection and work gloves. ** Steel may have sharp edges and can cut** - Get help moving parts and building the door, as some pieces are heavy and awkward to handle. - These instructions are for a Standard Size Premium Double Dutch Door. On some custom doors, some steps are not applicable, dimensions, and in some cases quantities may be different than those shown. When assembling a Custom Door, please verify dimensions and quantities highlighted with an asterisk *. - The Wood called out in this Document is standard nominal dimensional lumber. For example 2” x 6” standard lumber has an actual size of 1 1/2” x 5 1/2”.

STEP 1 The FRAME ASSEMBLY comes as in three pieces and is bolted together on site. Layout the top, left and right sides. The Use the 3/8” bolts and washers provided to bolt frame together.

STEP 2 Tip up FRAME ASSEMBLY, and center in the rough opening. Level up the frame using shims, and, 1/4” x 3” Hex Head Lag Bolts (BB), replace the #12 x 1 1/4” Philips Truss Head Screws as you go around. Very important to make sure frame is perfectly level and square.

STEP 3 Locate the DOOR FRAMES and measure and record the following Dimensions; INSIDE DOOR HEIGHT=_______(from the bottom of the DOOR up to the screw head) INSIDE DOOR WIDTH=________(between the screw heads).

STEP 4 -VERTICALWOOD Use the measurements taken to cut the wood to the desired length. The 2 x 6 ‘s are to be cut to a length of the INSIDE DOOR HEIGHT minus the width of a 2 x 2 (1-1/2”). The 2 x 2 should be cut to a length of the INSIDE DOOR WIDTH. It may be necessary to rip a 2 x 6 to fill the INSIDE DOOR WIDTH.

HORIZONTAL WOOD (Optional) Use the measurements taken to cut the wood to the desired length. The 2 x 6 ‘s are to be cut 1/8” shorter than the INSIDE DOOR WIDTH.

STEP 5 Locate CROSS BUCKS and the COLORED INSERT (if required). Carefully lay the CROSS BUCKS on the COLORED INSERT (colored side up) and slide them into the DOOR FRAME. ** If CROSS BUCKS or COLORED INSERTS are used on the other side as well, slide them in at this time below these, with the colored side down and the CROSS BUCKS at the bottom.

STEP 6 Slide the cut wood into the DOOR FRAME below the COLORED INSERT. ** If CROSS BUCKS or COLORED INSERTS are used on the other side as well, slide the cut wood into the DOOR FRAME between the 2 COLORED INSERTS.

STEP 7 Install #12 x 1-1/4” Philips Truss Head Screws (AA) through the holes in the DOOR FRAME. Carefully mark the CROSS BUCKS and (5x) 3/16” hole just through the CROSSBUCK and the COLORED INSERT and install (5x) #12x 1-1/4” Philips Truss Head Screws (AA).

Flip the door over and install #12 x 1-1/4” Philips Truss Head Screws (AA) in the remaining holes.

STEP 8 The Doors come with the Door Tabs welded to the Door and the Upper and Lower Jam Tabs welded to the Jam. Follow the steps on the diagrams below to assemble and adjust the Hinges.

STEP 9 Add SILL ANGLE to the UPPER DOOR. Line up Inside of SILL ANGLE with the outside of the DOOR so that when the UPPER DOOR closes on the LOWER DOOR the SILL ANGLE closes flush against the LOWER DOOR. Fasten it with 5x, #12x 1-1/4” Philips Truss Head Screws (AA).

STEP 11 At this point you will have to decide on which of the 2 doors will be the Primary Door. The Primary Door is the door that you open first. The Secondary Door can then be opened. If the doors swing out of the building, the Primary Door is usually in this case is on the left facing the hinges (but the final decision is up to you). Mount the Side Sill Angles on the Secondary Door on the opposite side of the hinges so that the Primary Door closes against it. Use the #8 Robertson Self-Drilling Screws (DD).

STEP 13 Then the Door Latch/Gate Latch and the 2nd Cane Bolt can be mounted to the inside of the Primary Door. Make sure to leave at least a ” between the edge of the Side Sill Angle (mounted on the Secondary Door) and the edge of the Latch when the door is closed. As before the Cane Bolt can also be mounted to the boards instead of the steel frame (except when used on Thermo-Plex). Also the Cane Bolt Insert is not mounted in the floor entrance way, as this Cane Bolt is used mainly to hold the door open.

into the ” pin so the pin. Go to the next step, if when you get the door installed the ” pin hits on the door you may need to turn the pin around.

STEP 14 Now the Main Latch can be mounted on the Primary Door. In this case a Pistol Grip Latch is mounted to the Left (facing hinges) Door. The Swinging Plate part always goes on the hinge side of the Door, and the Pistol Grip handle goes on the side opposite of the hinges.
