PERMIAN BASIN GEOPHYSICAL SOCIETY

Letter From the PBGS Board Mike Oestmann President-Elect

Hello PBGS Members, Many of you are just back from the SEG in San Antonio. I’m sure everyone is very busy and a little behind after the trip, but reports are that a good (and educational) time was had by all. As I write this we have just concluded the 45th annual Doodlebug Open – it was an incredible success. Our thanks to Lee Miller & EGI , Glenn Winters, Debbie & Larry Lawrence & Pinnacle Seismic and all the other volunteers and sponsors who worked so hard to make this year’s event a resounding success. We had a record number of teams participate this year. The food was great, the weather cooperated and the boom in our industry was evidenced by the extensive prizes donated by our generous sponsors and by the overall mood of our members. (The only negative comments I heard all day were related to Debbie’s selection of the second grand prize winner – just kidding of course.) The final numbers are not in yet, but thanks to our many sponsors, volunteers and participants it looks like the tournament raised over $15,000 for our society. My how things can change in just a few years! I want to thank those of you who took the time to share your ideas with us about speakers for this year. We have a terrific slate of speakers lined up for our meetings this fall. Roger Young and Shawn Porche from E-Seis will be here for the luncheon meeting on October 10. Roger’s talk and bio are contained elsewhere in this newsletter. Bryan DeVault of Vecta Oil & Gas will be here in November. And our own Glenn Winters is scheduled to speak for us at our December meeting. You will want to plan to attend all of those meetings. Invite your associates to come with you and encourage them to join PBGS! I understand that 2007 – 2008 is the 50th anniversary of the International Geophysical Year. This has been deemed the Electronic Geophysical Year and per The Leading Edge represents a coordinated international effort focusing on improving data access, release, preservation, integration, capacity building and discovery. I certainly hope it is a year of discovery for all of us as we continue to pursue those elusive oil & gas deposits. We’ll look forward to seeing all of you on Oct. 10. Mike Oestmann

September Luncheon Talk

Roger Young is the Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of eSeis, Inc., where he is responsible for product development. He is the creator of LithSeis®, an advanced seismic analytical tool, DrilSeis®, a seismic process that produces pore pressure and fracture gradient volumes, and Q-Based® Pore Pressure Prediction, which derives pore pressure from Frequency Absorption. Roger has 26 years of industry experience, including 12 years of LithSeis development and project work. Prior to eSeis, Roger worked as a petrophysicist for Union Texas, an integration engineer for Grumman, and a logging engineer for Schlumberger.
