A word from the president: Welcome to Green Tree CC for the May 2012 meeting of the Permian Basin AADE Chapter. As always, we appreciate you taking time out of your schedule to attend this meeting. Participation and attendance at chapter functions are very important, and a great way to network with industry professionals from both the operator’s side and the service sector. It also gives a favorable impression to guest speakers, who often come to Midland at considerable expense, if we have a large and attentive crowd. Our speaker for today will be John Willis, Chief of Drilling for Occidental Oil & Gas Corporation, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum Corporation. John’s talk is entitled “Conventional vs. Rotary Steerable Drilling”. He will discuss Oxy’s experience using both types of directional drilling systems, comparing and contrasting results, and their relative values in Oxy’s operations. Sponsors for this meeting are Young’s Mobile Homes, Scientific Drilling, and Wild Well Control. We appreciate the support from these three companies, which helps defer expenses for this meeting event. The June meeting will be our annual sporting clay shoot, to be held at Windwalker Farms on June 15th. This event is one of our primary fundraisers for our scholarship fund, so we hope to see you there, either as a participant, or a sponsor. th We would also like to remind you of the AADE Technical Forum, which will be September 11 . We will have presentations from both operators and service companies, discussing water treatment options, what some companies are doing to find access to water for fracing and drilling in the Permian Basin. We anticipate that this forum will be an all day event, from 9:00-3:30, with a short break for lunch. We encourage anyone that would like to present to provide us with a brief synopsis of what you would like to present or discuss. Other events to mark on your calendar are the Permian Basin Chapter Golf Tournament, which will be held th on Thursday, October 11 , at Ranchland Hills Golf Club, and the Texas Tech Student Chapter golf Tournament, which will be held on Friday, October 26th, at the Rawls Course in Lubbock. Again, thanks for attending and enjoy the meeting.

New Mexico Tech Update: The last formal NMT AADE Chapter Meeting was held the last week of April. The chapter announced officers for 2012-2013. If you missed them in last month’s newsletter they are as follows:
President: Robert Hernandez Vice President: Russell Sawyer Treasurer: Tony Ross Secretary: Dami Alebiosu
They also discussed events to be held during the Fall Semester 2012 which include events taking place during 49ers weekend, fundraisers, and the AADE National Conference. The chapter is also already discussing rig visits and various field trips for next semester and hoping to make it a full requirement that members go on at least one field trip a semester. Senior Design Presentations were presented April 26th followed by the Langdon B. Taylor Banquet honoring them on the 27th. I also wanted to take a minute to recognize our outgoing seniors. You all may be running into some of these guys very soon.

Hello All Shooters! It's time to sign-up for the 13th Annual AADE Sporting Clay Shoot scheduled for Friday, June 15, 2012, at Windwalker Farms. We will have a single afternoon rotation at 1:00pm with the gun drawing immediately following. The range will be split into two separate 11 station courses. There will also be a game of chance for those who choose to participate (purely voluntary). If you are willing to wager a $20 entry fee on your shooting skills, you may be able to earn a little money. The entry money will go into a pot, coupled with a little seed money from the AADE, and the top 50 shooters (that participate) will take home a percentage of the pot. Invitations are being sent out to AADE members and sponsors first. Please send your entry applications back as quickly as possible so you don’t get left out! The shoot will be closed at 270 shooters! If you enter a team, but are not sure of your second shooter, don’t wait. Send in your application with the full team entry fee and mark the second shooter as TBA. This will ensure your team entry. Don’t wait to the last minute to find a partner. Try to fill any open position by May 31st, 2012. Sponsorship forms and shooter entry forms are included in this letter. AADE is accepting credit card payments for entry or sponsorship payments. Most of all we want everyone to have a good time and a safe shoot! Thanks, Mike Ethridge Tournament Chairman
