PEARLAND INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 2016-2017 Student Dress Code Revised 5-4-16 A student’s appearance has much to do with the way the student feels about himself or herself. Appearance also affects the way in which students respond to each other, to staff, to their own success and has a great deal to do with the learning atmosphere of the school. Because of this, the Pearland Independent School district has established the following standardized dress code for students.

PK-6th GRADE -- CAPRI PANTS, SLACKS, JEANS, SHORTS, SKORTS AND SKIRTS        

Shall be any solid color excluding white. Decorations only permitted on pockets. Shall be appropriately sized, not tight fitting, not loose fitting Slacks/jeans must fit securely at the waist and be properly hemmed or cuffed at or below ankle, but not dragging the ground (“slicing”, “ragging”, or “holes” not allowed) May not be worn in any way that reflects gang affiliation, conceals contraband or creates a distraction (“sagging” not allowed). No stretch slacks, sweatpants, jogging pants, wind suits, warm-ups or coveralls allowed No leather, suede, vinyl or sheer fabric Length of shorts, skorts and skirts, must be no more than three (3) inches above the knee. The top of any side, back or front slit must also clearly be no more than three (3) inches above the knee. No outside (sewn on) oversized expandable pockets on slacks, jeans or shorts, such as those commonly referred to as “cargo” pockets or “safari” pockets allowed

7th-12th GRADE -- SLACKS, JEANS, SKIRTS, (NO SHORTS, SKORTS, CAPRI PANTS OR GAUCHO PANTS ALLOWED) 

Same requirements as slacks, jeans, skirts, above.

PK-12th GRADE -- DRESSES, JUMPERS, BLOUSES OR SHIRTS             

Shall be any solid color (no multicolor) dress, jumper, blouse, shirt or approved campus/district spirit shirt. Striped shirts/blouses are allowed but must have a standard collar A single logo is allowed on shirts/blouses. Spirit shirts must be campus/district specific and may include college shirts as approved by administration. Shall be appropriately sized Must be appropriately buttoned above the chest area at all times. This is the responsibility of the student. Inappropriately exposed skin is a violation of the dress code. Shirt tails may be out as long as no part of the shirt tail extends past fingertip length. Turtlenecks are allowed May not be leather, suede, vinyl or sheer fabric May not be sleeveless May not be worn in any way that reflects gang affiliation, conceals contraband or creates a distraction If a t-shirt or turtleneck shirt is worn underneath the dress shirt, it shall be a solid color. Length of dresses or jumpers must be no more than three (3) inches above the knee. The top of any side, back or front slit must also clearly be no more than three (3) inches above the knee.

PK-12th GRADE -- SWEATSHIRTS, VESTS, SWEATERS, WINDBREAKERS, SPORTS COATS AND BLAZERS (may be worn inside)     

Shall be any solid color. Must be appropriately sized. May not be worn in any way that reflects gang affiliation, conceals contraband or creates a distraction. A single logo is allowed. Spirit wear must be campus/district specific and may include college wear as approved by administration.

PK-8th GRADE -- OUTSIDE JACKETS AND COATS (may be worn inside)   

All fabrics acceptable, must be solid colors May not be worn in any way that reflects gang affiliation, conceals contraband or creates a distraction. Full length jackets/coats such as those commonly referred to as “trench” coats or “dusters” are not allowed, ¾ length (or less) jackets/coats are acceptable.

9TH-12TH GRADE -- OUTSIDE JACKETS AND COATS (may not be worn inside)   

Outside jackets and coats are considered cold weather apparel only and are not be to worn in building. May not be worn in any way that reflects gang affiliation, conceals contraband or creates a distraction. Full length jackets/coats such as those commonly referred to as “trench” coats or “dusters” are not allowed, ¾ length (or less) jackets/coats are acceptable.

9th-12th GRADE (Exception) 

PISD school letter jackets may be worn in building

PK-12th GRADE -- HAIR       

Must be neat, clean and well groomed No type of head covering, cap, hat or hair rollers may be worn inside the building. Symbols and/or styles that are identified with gang membership, affiliation or representation shall not be allowed. Distracting styles and/or coloring are not allowed. Hair carvings are not permitted. Sideburns must be kept neatly trimmed and must not extend below ear level or flare at the bottom. Students must be clean shaven. Goatees, beards and moustaches or any other facial hair are prohibited.

PK-12th GRADE -- SHOES   

Students must wear shoes appropriate for school (no house slippers or flip flops). All shoes must include a back strap over the heel. Wheels, noise-makers or lights are not permitted on footwear.

PK-12th GRADE -- MISCELLANEOUS    

  

New students enrolling in Pearland ISD for the first time will be provided a grace period of no more than five (5) calendar days to comply with the dress code. Revealing or tight garments considered inappropriately sized are prohibited. Accessories with inappropriate decorations or advertisements are prohibited. This includes but is not limited to, any item that depicts the occult, gang membership, death, suicide, violence, drugs, alcohol, tobacco or ethnic bias. The following items may not be worn:  Caps, hats, hoods or head coverings  Sunglasses and hairnets  Garments that have holes worn or torn in them  Heavy chains, spike necklaces, heavy chain necklaces or other inappropriate types of jewelry  Glitter, tattoos and writing/drawing on the face or skin  Any tattoos (including temporary) must be covered at all times (at school or while representing the school) No more than two (2) earrings may be worn in the ear lobe only. Nose rings, lip rings, tongue piercing rings or any other body piercing are not permitted. No spacers or gauging of the earlobes permitted. Socks, stockings may be solid or multi-colored. Undergarments must not be seen. No sheer fabrics.

PK-6th GRADE -- MISCELLANEOUS  

Solid or multi-colored leggings are allowed and must be worn under a dress, skirt, skort, jumper or shorts of the appropriate length. Leggings may not be worn with just a long shirt.

7th-12th GRADE -- MISCELLANEOUS  

Solid color leggings are allowed and must be worn under a dress or skirt. Leggings may not be worn with just a long shirt.

THE PRINCIPAL/ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL(S) ARE AUTHORIZED TO MAKE DETERMINATIONS REGARDING WHETHER ANY FASHION, FAD, HAIR, JEWELRY OR ARTICLE OF CLOTHING IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOL WEAR OR DISRUPTIVE TO THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS OR SAFETY OF THE CAMPUS.

Distrito Escolar Independiente de Pearland Código de Vestimenta para el 2016 - 2017 Revisado 5-4-16 La presentación del alumno tiene mucho que ver con la forma en la que el alumno se siente. La presentación también afecta la manera en que los alumnos responden el uno al otro, al personal, a su propio éxito y tiene mucho que ver con el ambiente de aprendizaje de la escuela. Por tal motivo, el Distrito Escolar Independiente de Pearland ha establecido el siguiente código de vestimenta para los alumnos. PK-6to GRADO – PANTALONES ESTILO “CAPRI,” PANTALONES, JEANS, PANTALONES CORTOS, PANTALONES TIPO FALDAS Y FALDAS       

 

Deben ser de cualquier color menos el color blanco. Se permite decoración solamente en los bolsillos. Deben ser de la talla adecuada, no pegada ni suelta. Los pantalones/jeans deberán quedar a la cintura y la basta deberá llegar al o debajo del tobillo, pero que no se arrastre al piso (no se permiten pantalones/jeans cortados o con huecos) No se pueden usar en cualquier forma que demuestre afiliación a una pandilla, que escondan articulos de contrabando o que causen distracción (no se permite que ningún pantalon cuelgue) No se permite el uso de pantalones elásticos, sudaderas, pantalones para correr, trajes contra el viento u overoles. No se permite el uso de ropa de cuero, gamuza o vinilo. El largo de los pantalones cortos, pantalones tipo faldas y faldas deben ser no más de tres (3) pulgadas sobre la rodilla. La parte superior de cualquier abertura lateral, trasera o delantera también tiene que ser no más de tres (3) pulgadas sobre la rodilla. No se permite el uso de ropa con rayas o bordada. Los bolsillos no pueden estar afuera (cosidos) bolsillos ampliables en pantalones, jeans o pantalones cortos como los que comúnmente se conocen como bolsillos estilo "carga" o bolsillos de estilo safari.

7mo–12vo GRADO – PANTALONES, JEANS, FALDAS, (NO SE PERMITE EL USO DE PANTALONES CORTOS, PANTALONES TIPO FALDAS, PANTALONES TIPO GAUCHO) 

Los mismos requisitos aplican para los pantalones, jeans y faldas.

PK al 12vo GRADO – VESTIDOS, VESTIDOS SIN MANGAS, BLUSAS O CAMISETAS 

        

Los vestidos, vestidos sin mangas o las blusas serán de cualquier color sólido (no multicolor) y será cualquier camiseta que sea parte del uniforme de la escuela. No se permite el uso de ropa brillante o que cause distracción. Se permiten camisas de rayas si tienen un cuello. Se permite el uso de camisetas o blusas con un solo logo. Las camisetas con logotipos de uniforme escolar deben representar la escuela o el distrito o símbolos de universidad y deben ser aprobadas por la directiva. Deben ser de la talla adecuada. Se deben abotonar hasta el pecho en todo momento. Esto es la responsabilidad del alumno. El demostrar parte del cuerpo es violación del código de vestimenta. Se puede usar la camisa afuera siempre en cuando no sea más larga que la punta de los dedos. Pueden ser con cuello tortuga. No pueden ser transparentes o de cuero, gamuza o vinilo. No pueden ser sin mangas.

No se puede usar en cualquier forma que demuestre afiliación a una pandilla, que sea de contrabando o que cause distracción Si se usa una camiseta o camiseta con cuello tortuga debajo de una camisa, ésta debe ser de color sólido. El tamaño del vestido debe ser no más de tres (3) pulgadas arriba de la rodilla. La parte superior de cualquier abertura lateral, trasera o delantera también tiene que ser no más de tres (3) pulgadas sobre la rodilla.

PK–12vo GRADO – SUDADERAS, CHALECOS, SUETERES, ROMPEVIENTOS, CHAQUETAS DEPORTIVAS Y CHAQUETAS LIGERAS (Estas pueden usarse dentro de la escuela)  Debe ser de cualquier color sólido. Se permite usar con un solo logo.  Debe ser de la talla apropiada.  No deben ser usados en ninguna forma que refleje afiliación a una pandilla o que sea de contrabando o que cause distracción.  Los abrigos tipo “sweatshirts” con logotipos deben representar la escuela o el distrito o símbolos de universidad y deben ser approvados por la directiva. PK–8vo GRADO – CHAQUETAS Y ABRIGOS (se pueden usar adentro de la escuela y los salones de clase)  Se acepta todo tipo de tela y puede ser de cualquier color solido  No deben ser usados en ninguna forma que refleje afiliación a una pandilla o que sea de contrabando o que cause distracción.  No se aceptan chaquetas largas hasta el tobillo conocidas como “trench coats o dusters.” Se aceptan chaquetas de ¾ de largo o menos. 9no-12vo GRADOS –CHAQUETAS Y ABRIGOS (estos no se pueden usar dentro de las escuelas o los salones de clase)  Las chaquetas y abrigos son considerados como prendas para el frio y no se puededn usar adentro de los salones de clase o adentro del edificio.  No deben ser usados en ninguna forma que refleje afiliación a una pandilla o que sea de contrabando o que cause distracción.  No se aceptan chaquetas largas hasta el tobillo conocidas come “trench coats o dusters”. Se aceptan chaquetas de ¾ de largo o menos. 9no–12vo GRADO – (Excepción)  Se pueden usar chaquetas con letras del PISD dentro de los edificios. PK–12vo GRADO – CABELLO  Debe ser aseado, limpio y bien peinado  No se puede cubrir la cabeza, usar sombrero, gorras o rodillo de pelo dentro del edificio. Por razones de seguridad no se permiten peines con mango largo.  No se permiten símbolos y/o estilos que se identifiquen, afilien o representen a las pandillas.  No se permite tallarse el cabello.

Continuacion del Código de Vestimenta  

Las patillas deben mantenerse bien cortadas y no deben extenderse abajo del nivel del oído o pueden ser anchas. Los alumnos deben estar bien rasurados. Se prohiben las perillas, barbas, bigotes o el pelo facial.

PK–12vo GRADO – CALZADO  Los alumnos deben usar zapatos adecuados para la escuela (no se permiten pantuflas o sandalias de playa).  Todos los zapatos deben de tener una correa detrás del talón.  No se permiten las ruedas, brillantes, luces o cosas que hagan ruido en el calzado. PK–12vo GRADO – MISCELÁNEO  Los nuevos alumnos del Pearland ISD tendrán quince (15) días de plazo para cumplir con el código de vestimenta.  Se prohíben las prendas de vestir que revelen el cuerpo o que sean apretadas.  Se prohíben accesorios con decoraciones o anuncios inapropiados. Esto incluye pero no está limitado a cualquier objeto que demuestre lo oculto, que refleje afiliación a una pandilla, muerte, suicidio, violencia, drogas, alcohol, tabaco o prejuicios étnicos.  Los siguientes objetos no se pueden usar: o Gorras, sombreros, capas o cubiertas para la cabeza o Anteojos solares y redecillas para el cabello o Ropa que tenga agujeros o que estén rotas o Cadenas pesadas, collares con púas, collares con cadenas gruesas u otro tipo de joya inapropiada  No se puede usar más de dos (2) aretes en la oreja. Tampoco se permiten anillos en la nariz, en los labios, en la lengua o cualquier tipo de perforación en el cuerpo. Los separadores o el aforamiento del lóbulo de la oreja no son permitidos. PK-6to GRADO – MISCELÁNEO  Se permiten escarpines “leggings” de un color sólido o de multicolores y se usen debajo del vestido, falda, pantalones tipo falda o vestidos sin mangas que sean del tamaño adecuado.  Los escarpines o “leggings” no se pueden usar debajo de una camisa o blusa larga. 7to al 12vo GRADO - MISCELÁNEO  Se permiten escarpines o “leggings” de un color solido y se deben usar debajo del vestido, falda, pantalones tipo falda o vestidos sin mangas.  Los escarpines o “leggings”no se pueded usar debajo de una camisa o blusa larga. EL DIRECTOR/SUBDIRECTOR ESTÁ AUTORIZADO A DETERMINAR SI EL VESTUARIO, LA MODA, NOVEDAD, CABELLO, JOYA O CUALQUIER OTRO TIPO DE VESTUARIO ES ADECUADO PARA USAR EN LA ESCUELA O SI INTERRUMPE EL PROCESO EDUCATIVO O LA SEGURIDAD DEL PLANTEL ESCOLAR.
