Dear Friends,

That’s Entertainment!! By now you have received information regarding our upcoming parish fundraiser “That’s Entertainment.” Please take a moment to think about becoming a sponsor, donating an item for the auctions, purchasing raffle tickets or event tickets. Proceeds benefit Padre Serra and its ministries and your support is greatly appreciated! Please thoughtfully consider how you might help “That’s Entertainment” in one or more of the following ways: ❖ Event sponsorship ❖ Donations (cash or goods) for our silent and live auctions ❖ Baskets for the silent auction ❖ Raffle ticket purchases ❖ Attendance of the event

Catholic Charities of Ventura County On Sunday, February 12, Catholic Charities will hold their annual Partners in Service Awards Dinner in our Serra Center. This awards dinner honors parish volunteers and workers for their Christian social service. In addition the event raises finds to support Catholic Charities’ mission of serving those in need in Ventura County. This year our parish is honoring two extremely dedicated women who work tirelessly in the vineyard to assist those who are hungry, homeless, and needy. If you’d like to show your support and appreciation of Willaine Conroy and Pat Yost and attend the event, please contact John Rak 279-8484 for ticket information. Here is some information about our parish honorees: Willaine Conroy and her husband Michael have been parishioners since 1991. Willaine is a Eucharistic Minister and involved with bible study, women’s ministry and retreats. Her service continues beyond the parish to Catholic Charities of Ventura County, St. John’s Healthcare and La Reina High School. Pat Yost has been a parishioner since 1995. She has volunteered her time and talent to children’s First Communion preparation and Liturgy of the Word. Later Pat helped launched Landings, a ministry for returning Catholics. As a result of her participation in the JustFaith program, Pat is now involved with Many Meals of Camarillo which provides free dinners on Monday and Thursday nights.

Facilities Update Hopefully you have seen that work has begun on our BBQ which will be complete with a wood-burning grill, gas grill, sink, and plenty of counter space for preparation and serving. We are looking forward to limitless parish events and gatherings in the future! Completion is expected in mid-February. Once that is complete, we will begin another project. Thanks to the generosity of our Serra Seniors ministry and many individuals one flag pole for the American flag will be installed in front of the Serra Center. Our parking lot replacement project continues. In recent weeks we replaced six parking lot lights with energy-efficient units that are identical to those installed with the new parking lot. As the older ones show signs of decay or distress, we will continue to replace them. Siempre Adelante,

Teresa Runyon

Adult Confirmation Preparation We call Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist the Sacraments of Initiation because they are the foundations of the Christian life. Through these sacraments we are immersed into the mystery of Christ’s saving death and resurrection. To be a fully initiated member of the Catholic Church, one needs to be baptized, confirmed, and share in the Eucharist. Confirmation is intimately connected with Baptism. It brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace. In Confirmation, we are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Through anointing and imposition of hands, we are conformed more closely to Christ and more perfectly bound to the Church so that we may bear witness to Christ in the world. For many reasons some adults have not yet celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation. If you would like to join a group of adults (over 18 years old and out of high school) preparing to be confirmed, please contact Catherine Shadduck at [email protected] or call 482-6417 ext 331.

Together in Mission 2012 “Be Imitators of … Christ” 1 Cor 11:1 This year’s annual appeal will provide funds to 35 parishes and 52 schools in our Archdiocese that would find it difficult, if not impossible, to operate without them. On February 12, Commitment Sunday, we will welcome Melissa Wayek who will share her personal experience with this appeal. If you contributed in past years, you should have or will receive a letter in the mail. Literature and envelopes will also be available in the narthex over the next several weeks. As each parish household prayerfully reflects on the amount of the pledge to be made to help these parishes and schools, please reflect on the following questions: ❖ Do I really believe that I have a duty to help others who are in need? ❖ Is what I give to the work of the Church enough to show how gratefully I am for what God has given me? ❖ Do I appreciate how important every contribution to Together in Mission is to the people in the subsidized parishes and schools? Please pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as you consider the above questions and give generously, according to what God has given to you.

Blood Drive Follow Up Sincere gratitude to all those who donated blood last Sunday. A total of 59 pints was collected. All of which will benefit someone in need in our community. Mark your calendars now for our next blood drive on June 10, 2012.

As often as you like, use the envelopes in the narthex to make a donation (checks payable to Padre Serra Parish). Turn the envelope into the collection basket or parish office. At the end of the quarter, we will send one parish check to the school.
