May 3‐6, 2013 – Ottawa Tulip Festival Itinerary 

  Friday, May 3rd   Today, we will depart from New Hampshire on a luxury motorcoach – sit back and relax while we make our way  across the Canadian border and into Ontario and Canada's capital city of Ottawa. After a brief driving orientation  tour, we will check into our hotel, which is located on the Rideau Canal in the heart of downtown Ottawa. There  will be free time to freshen up or stretch your legs before dinner this evening.   This evening we will dine at the Canal Ritz, which boasts the best views  of the historic and beautiful Rideau Canal.  The Rideau Canal is one of  the greatest civil engineering works of the 19th century. In 2007, the  Rideau Canal was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations  as it celebrated its 175th year. It was recognized for its place in  Canada’s history, it’s amazing engineering feats, as well its beauty and  importance to the area's development, both commercial and  recreational.  During the tulip festival, there are hundreds of thousands  of tulips on display. (D)   Saturday, May 4th   This morning enjoy a full breakfast before departing on our city sightseeing tour.  Our local guide will point out  all of Ottawa’s attractions including the Museum of Civilization, the Prime Minister’s Residence, Rideau Hall,  Rideau Canal, Rockcliffe District, Byward market and of course, we will see the amazing tulip displays, including a  stop at “Commissioners Park” where you can view 300,000 tulips in bloom.    After our city sightseeing tour, we will visit Canada’s Parliament. Our guided tour will include the interior of the  Parliament buildings, where we will learn more about the Canadian  system of government. The inside isn’t the only thing to view – the  buildings are known for their architectural beauty and are set on a  dramatic hill overlooking the Ottawa River. A trip to the observation  deck at the top of the Peace Tower provides a dramatic 360º view of  the Capital.  Next, we will stop at historic Byward Market where we will enjoy  lunch at Tucker’s Restaurant ‐ a buffet restaurant like no other. Diners 

select their meal choices from the various shops that compromise the Marketplace Buffet, including the Corner  Baker, The Green Grocer, the Cookstove, Carvery & Co, plus more.   This afternoon, enjoy the 61st annual Canadian Tulip Festival.  The Canadian Tulip Festival is one of the largest in the world  and you will have a chance to see millions of tulips in bloom.   Festival events take place throughout the city (event details  TBA).   Our hotel is centrally located on the Rideau Canal and within  easy walking distance to Parliament Hill, Byward Market and  many local attractions.  Your tour director or the hotel  concierge can assist you with planning your afternoon.    This evening you will have the option of taking a trip to the Casino du Lac Leamy. (B,L)  Sunday, May 5th   After a full breakfast, we will visit the Royal Canadian Mounted Police  Musical Ride Centre. Experience a living tribute to Canadian heritage  and history.  We will visit RCMP Rockliffe Stables where you can visit  with the Mounties, meet the majestic horses, stop by the riding school,  see the stately carriages used in royal escorts of Her Majesty the  Queen, and visit the Mountie Shop.  This is a truly one of a kind  experience and is sure to be a highlight.   This afternoon, you are free to explore the city or join us for a visit to  the Canadian Museum of Civilization which is considered to be one of  the best museums in the country and is considered Canada's answer to  the Smithsonian Institute. Located on the shores of the Ottawa River directly across from Parliament Hill, the  Canadian Museum of Civilization is a stunning landmark building that celebrates the achievements and histories  of Canadian and world cultures. It is home to the world's largest indoor collection of totem poles and the First  Peoples Hall highlighting the cultural, historic and artistic achievements of Canada's First Peoples.   This evening is yours to explore the city and dine at one of the many restaurants at the Byward Market or near  our hotel. (B)    Monday, May 6th   After breakfast, you will have time to get a few more photos of the tulips, do some last minute souvenir  shopping or visit one of the many downtown museums or galleries.  Enjoy lunch on your own before we bid "Au  Revoir" to Canada and depart for home.  We will stop along the way for rest breaks and once we cross the  border into the United States, we will enjoy a farewell dinner together. (B,D)  Please note: The itinerary is subject to change. All itinerary inclusions will remain the same, but the schedule may vary  slightly depending on the final Tulip Festival events schedule.

Baggage: One large suitcase and one small carry-on bag per person are allowed. The small bag must fit in the overhead bin on the coach or within your seat area.
