I'm running an abbreviated online only version of the Bent Pylon this month. There were only two article submissions this month, which can you see on this page, so it was not worth over $2000 to produce a print version for the April issue. I'm always looking for new content, so if you'd like to see full versions of the Bent Pylon each month, please send submissions to me.

OVR will host an advanced driver education event July 1012 during the club race at Putnam Park. There will be no instructors for this event and drivers must have previously run with OVR or had at least ten driver education events prior to this weekend. There will be two run groups for the driver education portion of the weekend.

Advertisers, you will notice the Porsche of the Village advertisement on page 2 is in full color. We requested full color ads from all of our advertisers earlier this year, so if you'd like to see your ad in full color in the online version of the Bent Pylon, please submit it to [email protected].

Registration is already open on clubregistration.net. Participants may register for one, two or three days. Please register early because fees increase 30 days prior to the event by $50. Enjoy some great club racing or even volunteer in the pits and other areas when you’re not driving. DE participants are also invited to a party at the track on Saturday night. We can’t wait to see you at the track!

Spring Driving Tour Kurt Niemeyer - Member

When: Saturday April 18, 2015 Registration: opens at 8:00 a.m. Driver’s Meeting: 9:00 a.m. First Car Out: 9:30 am Start: Burger King, 882 State 28, Milford Ohio 45150 Stop 1: 11:00 a.m. - Miller’s Amish Market Stop 2: 12:30 p.m. - Barn Sale Antiques Stop 3: 2:00 p.m. - John T. Wilson Homestead End: 4 p.m. - Moyer Vineyard Winery and Restaurant The start point features a Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, real bathrooms and plenty of space to park and grid the cars for departure. Register and get route instructions. Enjoy a short car show before a brief, informative as well as mandatory driver/navigator meeting before we leave. The first leg is a spirited drive east crossing rivers, curving along creeks and winding through valleys teeming with spring vegetation on roads chosen to remind you why you bought a sports car. There are plenty of twisties that highlight the features of the chassis, power-train and suspension, not to mention the driver. The first break will be Miller’s Amish Market offering a sandwich shop and bakery with tasty treats. Be aware that the service moves at a leisurely pace. Several sharp witted members last year took a picnic lunch and enjoyed it at the outdoor tables, filling the picnic basket with baked goodies, leaving plenty of time to wander through the various shops. The second leg is a short drive to Barn Sale Antiques, featuring antique machinery, grinding wheels, auto dealer

and service station memorabilia, and is the home to the Wheat Ridge Herb Fair each autumn. The driving revs up on leg three as we dramatically drop into the Ohio Brush Creek Valley and run north along this fascinating waterway before climbing Nichols Ridge and heading to the Tranquility Wildlife Area and The John T. Wilson Homestead. Originally a general store, the homestead was later used as a station on the Underground Railroad, and is now a bed and breakfast. A guided tour by restorers Ralph & Patty Alexander reveals the tale of the building and John T. Wilson. Departing Tranquility, the roads will again remind you why you drive a Porsche with a delicious selection of sweeping curves, inviting straights, sharp corners and plenty of opportunities to use the brakes and throttle for personal gratification. Reaching the Ohio River, we turn west to accommodate a visit to the classic Moyer Vineyard Winery & Restaurant, taste the varietals and enjoy the fare as the Spring Classic Driving Tour winds down. Take a sunset cruise along the mighty Ohio on Route 52 to return to Cincinnati. OVR members may join the drive in progress or leave at anytime. There are no requirements to complete the route, so come and have a good time driving your sports car with other enthusiasts. Children are welcome to join us. There is no charge for the event, but advance registration is required via www.ovrpca.org or by phone or email to Kurt Niemeyer, [email protected], 513-304-1177 or Tom Cole, [email protected], 513-274-8547. Let us know your name, car make and model please. Thanks and hope to see you on the Tour.

The 60th Annual Porsche Parade The Porsche Club of America cordially invites you to attend our 60th Annual Porsche Parade Celebration in French Lick Indiana from June 21-27, 2015. Our 60th Parade coincides with the Club’s 60th Anniversary Celebration, and we’re planning a series of special events at French Lick that will pay tribute to the cars and people who have made us the greatest single marque sports car club in the world. The 60th Parade will rightfully pay homage to the members and events of our past, but will also celebrate the Club’s newest enthusiasts who will shape our future. Parade Registration will open to PCA members on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 12 Noon EDT. The best place to read about Parade activities is http://parade2015.pca.org/ For the first time in recent memory, we have not one, but TWO resort properties awaiting your visit, both listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The 3,000 acre compound also features three golf courses and a world class spa at each facility.

For those of you who are new to Parade, you need to register for Parade on the PCA or Parade website before getting access to the codes necessary to hold your room. Therefore, we recommend browsing all necessary information prior to opening day so you’re ready to go. You’ll need to know what events you want to enter, as well as which hotel is your preference. The registration guide will be on the Parade website by March 1st. We will have our full complement of competitive events: Concours, TSD Rally, Autocross (at the nearby French Lick airport), and Tech Quiz. Add to that the Tours, Gimmick Rally, Golf Tournament, Art Show, Michelin Drive and Compare, Kids’ events, Tech Academy, cooking school, 5K run/walk, Parade of Porsches and more – you’ll be kept busy!

The French Lick Springs Hotel, established in 1832 and the larger of the two resorts, will be host to many of our familiar Parade activities. This city and the resort were named for an early French fur trading outpost and nearby salt lick. They recently completed a 600 million dollar restoration, bringing many comfortable present day amenities to surroundings that are authentic to the mid-19th century when the current facility was built. It is perhaps most known for their medicinal springs – “Pluto Mineral Water”. The actual spring is still part of their landscape, and the Gardens nearby will host our Welcome Party as well as various activities throughout the week. Known as the 8th wonder of the world, and just down the street, you’ll find the West Baden Springs Hotel. This resort is home to the most breathtaking feature of our combined facilities this year; a free-span dome, the largest in the world until the Houston Astrodome was built in the 1960’s. An architectural marvel, this breathtaking Atrium will host our Concours and Victory banquets. Our Concours will be held a few steps through the covered bridge from the north end of the French Lick property. Rallies will depart from the grounds of the West Baden, and banquets will be held on both properties. The Parade 60th year museum, Hospitality, Goodie Store, seminars and many meetings will be at French Lick. Both resorts have lots of parking and car wash stations.

Around the Zone Michael Soriano - Zone 4 Representative

Greetings PCA Zone 4 Members, I am pleased to be able to share some very exciting news with you. As you may have heard the Porsche Club of America has seen tremendous growth setting another membership record in 2014, and as a result, has had a very successful and profitable year. For the second year in a row, there is a surplus of funds that PCA will be refunding back to the regions. It is my pleasure to be able to inform you that each region will receive a one-time rebate subsidy of $5.00 per primary member, which regions can utilize in any way they see fit. This is perfect timing as most of the regions within our zone are preparing for the upcoming driving season. I am certain this new influx of unexpected funds will be a welcome addition to each of your regions, and will be used to improve a wide variety of activities throughout the year. I recently travelled to Grand Rapids, MI, to attend Western Michigan Region’s Winterfest 2015. During the evening, I presented to the region a number of items in recognition of their 55th Anniversary. In return, I received milk chocolate and dark chocolate Porsches from region President Mike Karluk. The following day, I attended their Morning After Brunch. It was an enjoyable time and a great way for them to celebrate this milestone. I would like to thank everyone in the region for their hospitality. Be sure to check your local region’s website and newsletter, as well as the Zone 4 website http://zone4.pca.org for the latest details on the many events close to you that are being planned. Also, consider attending other regions’ events, such as:

• Multi-Region Swap Meet hosted by Porsche of Farmington Hills on Saturday, April 11. • On April 11 Allegheny Region will be holding their All Member Dinner. • Ohio Valley Region is hosting an Autocross at the Forest Fair Mall in Cincinnati on April 11. • April 12 is Mid-Ohio Region’s Autocross Beginner’s School at Columbus Motor Speedway • Motor-Stadt Region’s Porsche People and Pizza is April 14 at Spagnoulo’s in Okemos. • Maumee Valley Region’s King of the Hill Games of Skill III is April 18 • On April 18 join Rally Sport Region members for Time with Tim in Ann Arbor • Central Indiana Region’s Spring Color Auto Tour to Cincinnati is April 18 &19. • Southeast Michigan Region will hold their New Members Gathering on April 25 • Join members of Western Michigan Region on April 26 for their Spring Brunch at Cygnus 27 • May 1-3 Northern Ohio Region is hosting a DE at MidOhio Sports Car Course • Michiana Region’s Michiana Car Show at Elkhart County Career Center is May 2 I look forward to having the opportunity of meeting each and every one of you as I visit each region throughout the year.
