WHO WE ARE newportFILM is a non-profit, year-round series of documentary film programs. we showcase approximately 30 films a year to over 10,000 guests. programming the most current “best of” docs from film festivals around the world, we keep our venues as fresh as our film selections; from historic theaters to island nature preserves, we utilize a variety of the wonderful natural and legendary spaces that rhode island has to offer. each of our film presentations are oneof-a-kind events that incorporate filmmakers, film subjects or industry experts; recent guests include ethel kennedy and tim wakefield. our team is passionate, innovative and dedicated to creating experiences that take the audience beyond the screen and into a world of dialogue and action.

Andrea van Beuren,

Rory Kennedy, n a hot summer evening adjoining the lavish grass courts of the Terri Conners International Tennis Hall of Fame, newportFILM welcomed 300 guests to their annual fundraising soiree. The threatening rain squall did nothing to dampen spirits as supporters pledged $80,000 to the year-round community-focused documentary film program, with the help of sponsors Newport Wine Cellar, Svedka Vodka, Crystal Spring, the Tennis Hall of Fame, Franklin & Co. Design Associates and Kirby Perkins Construction. After the party, the night transitioned to a full house at Jane Pickens Theater for a screening of Rory Kennedy’s film ETHEL, about her mother and her life with husband Robert F. Kennedy. Rory and cousin Teddy Kennedy hosted an entertaining and candid post-film Q&A. “This event is vital to our organization. It’s our largest fundraiser, and gets more and more successful every year. We are so grateful to everyone who shows up and supports us,” says Executive Director Terri Conners. “Every year we’re challenged by the weather, from rain to scorching hot nights to a monsoon. But this year, the whole night was magical. With Ethel and Rory’s support, Ainsley Kass, Happy and Archie van Beuren, Artistic Director Andrea van Beuren and with Teddy, it was so exciting.”—AS
