SCOTTISH ACT OF REMEMBRANCE PARADE ANZAC DAY – 25th APRIL, 2016 Due to roadworks on George Street the 2016 Scottish Act of Remembrance will be taking a different route in 2016 and the following procedure will be adopted:•

The parade will commence following the main Anzac Day March. All Personnel taking part are requested to be assembled ready to proceed at 12.30pm or as directed.



THE MARCH WILL COMMENCE NO LATER THAN 7 MINUTES AFTER THE LAST GROUP OF VETERANS HAS PASSED THROUGH ON ELIZABETH STREET.

Parade Format Massed Bands •

All Personnel taking part in the parade are required to form up in Park Street (to the west of Elizabeth Street) facing East. The Massed Bands will form up with the head at the step off, left wheel out of Park Street into Elizabeth Street and continue along Elizabeth Street until it reaches the top of Martin Place where it will halt (remaining on Elizabeth Street) and be joined by the Wreath Laying Party led by the Duty Band.

Wreath Laying Party and Duty Band •

At 12.10pm, the Duty Band, as nominated by the P.B.A. (must be in full highland dress) will form up at the southern end of Pitt Street near King Street. (Wreath Party to form up behind the band see below).



At 12.30pm the Duty Band will step off from its formation point, left wheel into Martin Place and march past the Cenotaph (with the Cenotaph on the right - DM to salute as the band passes with eyes right). The Duty Band will proceed to the George Street end of the Cenotaph, counter march and halt facing the Cenotaph.

2 THE WREATH LAYING SERVICE • As the band marches to the right of the Cenotaph, the Flag Bearers to take up position at all 4 corners of the Cenotaph facing out at 90 degrees. • Wreath party will march to the left and right in a regimented fashion, form up alongside the Cenotaph in preparation to lay the Wreaths, marking time until the DM calls halt. • When the Duty Band commences to play the lament, “Mist Covered Mountains”, the Wreath Party will turn to face the Cenotaph then all together, lay their respective wreaths. At the same time, the Flag Bearers will lower flags to be parallel with the ground. No part of The Flag should make contact with the ground. Drum Major will salute. • At the conclusion of the Lament, and at the Drum Major’s command, the band will step off to the tap, back past the cenotaph and form up at the Pitt Street end. • The Flag Bearers will take up their positions behind the Band and the Wreath Laying Party will then fall in behind them. • The band will then right wheel into Pitt Street and continue along so as to make sure the Wreath Party are out of Martin Place, then halt and at the Drum Major’s Command, fall out, make their way up Martin Place to join the massed bands at the top of Martin Place in Elizabeth Street. When the massed bands arrive, the Head Drum Major will advance the spearhead 10 paces and the Wreath Party will fall in position quickly and in a regimented fashion. (note – except for the Lament and DM commands there is to be no other noise/playing.) ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD MAINTAIN A RESPECTFUL SILENCE AT ALL TIMES. THIS IS NOT A SOCIAL OCCASION.



AT THE COMMAND OF THE HEAD DRUM MAJOR ALL, PERSONNEL WILL LEFT TURN FACING DOWN MARTIN PLACE LOOKING TOWARDS THE CENOTAPH.



The Massed Pipes and Drums will play the Lament ‘Flowers of the Forest’ in honour of Fallen and Departed Comrades. AT THE ORDER OF THE DRUM MAJOR, ALL PERSONAL WILL RIGHT TURN TO FACE DOWN ELIZABETH STREET. The parade will then continue along Elizabeth Street (North) to halt at Hunter Street and will be dismissed.

All Commands will be given by the Drum Major in Charge and the head drum major. No other parade personnel are to issue commands. At all times, parade personnel are required to follow the directions of the Drum Majors in Command and members of the N.S.W. Police Force. Members of the Scottish Community groups who are not laying wreaths but wish to take part in the Remembrance Parade are invited to form up behind the rear rank of the NSW Scottish Regimental Association who will be positioned directly behind the rear rank of the Massed Pipes and Drums.

The parade will be under the command of Drum Major in Charge D/M Geoff Lazar. The Massed Pipes and Drums will be led by Leading Drum Major, D/M Barry Nicholas . A spearhead of Drum Majors as selected will be under the command of Drum Major Clarrie Lemme, It is requested that all Drum Majors assist the Drum Major in Command when required. (Please note no other Drum Majors are to join the spearhead unless authorised by D/M Lemme.) Pipe Corps PM Adam Wishart will be the Senior Pipe Major. Drum Corps The following personnel have been appointed to play the lead parts in this parade:D/Sgt. P Kelly (NSW Police Pipe Band) D/Sgt. R Culbert (Sydney Thistle Highland Pipe Band) D/Sgt. N Webb. (LCC Southern Cross Pipes and Drums) D/Sgt. S. Patterson (TSC Old Boys Pipes and Drums) D/Sgt. J Tate (Castle Hill RSL Pipe Band) D/Sgt. P Ross (Parramatta Pipe Band) VP Drumming D Hall In addition to the above some lead drummers will be co-opted on the day Bass Section The Bass Drummer of NSW Police PB has been appointed as the controlling/Senior Bass Drummer for this parade. All other Bass Drummers must play more softly and in time with the senior bass drummer, i.e. not more loudly or ahead or behind. All tenor drummers are requested to follow the instructions of the appointed personnel. NB. All Bass Drummers should play beat notes in groups of 3 with a rest between for every tune. (As in 3 pace rolls)
