Configure the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem

Configure the PC as the DHCP client

Make sure that system meets the following requirement prior to NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem usage: - Subscribers who have applied for this service - One or more computers with 10/100Mbps Ethernet NIC - For wireless access, computers should have one 802.11b/g wireless NIC. - PC should have the browser software to configure the device.

I.

This means to configure the Ethernet NIC (can be wireless or wired) to DHCP client. The example shown below is using the wired Ethernet NIC running on WinXP.

From Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> LAN or high-speed Internet -> high-light and Double Click on the Local-Area Connection

To setup the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem, it requires the following steps: ➢ Configure the PC as the DHCP client ➢ Access to the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem ➢ Initialize the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem (turn on the router mode) ➢ Modem Setup ➢ Wireless Setup ➢ Using the Tools

III. Local-Area Connection Status window will pop-up as shown below, then click the Properties button.

IV. Highlight the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.

Physical connection: a. Using Ethernet cable - connect the cable from your PC to any one of the Ethernet port in the modem b. Using Wi-Fi Interface

Step 1:

Choose “Wireless Network Connection” at bottom right corner OR from Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connection -> LAN or HighSpeed Internet -> “Wireless Network Connection”

Choose the options as below:

Then press “OK”.

Right click on “Wireless Network Connection”, and click “View Available Wireless Networks”

Step 3:

Find the wireless network with SSID “Default”

Step 4:

Choose “Default” and then click “Connect”

Step 5:

Type in the Network key (WLAN Security) that printed on the label of NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem and then press “Connect”

Step 6:

It will show as “Connected” if successful

Run the browser program. a. Make sure the proxy server setting is disabled. The web configuration page cannot be displayed if proxy server is chosen. b. To check the setting: Start -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections > LAN Settings. Tick the check box off if it is in use and click OK.

III. Using the browser to access to the URL: http://setup.net IV. Login to the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem. - The default Username is “user”; and the default Password is “user”. - Username and Password are case sensitive. - Input the username and password then click the login button. - If you forget the username and password, you may press the reset button on the back of the device to reset as default.

After the login, the status page will be shown as below.

Turn on the router mode -

Turn on the router mode for the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem; click the Initialization button on Status Page. Enter the email account in the User Account field. Enter the password of the email account in the Activation Code. After clicking the Submit button, the backend system will validate the account information with the link information. If the information does not match, the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem will reboot and clear up the cached data. If the information matched, IP address will be assigned to the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem and the router mode will be switched on.

Note that the router mode is not switched on yet as the status of Internet Access shows it is not ready and IP address not assigned.

Modem Setup This include the configuration of ➢ LAN ports configuration (optional) - Allow users to control the 4 Ethernet ports speed. - Default is Auto.

By default, the whole intranet (PCs within your home) will be hidden from Internet due to the Router feature called NAT. If the PC or particular devices need to be seen from Internet, users can configure the DMZ or port forwarding to allow the traffic to pass through.

Now the Internet Access is ready. PCs that are connected to the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem can gain access to the Internet directly without the need of PPPoE login. The status page shows that Internet Access is ready. IP address is assigned to the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem. Users can check the @LED on the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem that the green light is on. Please note that the Initialization Page is replaced by Modem Setup page.

➢ DMZ (optional) - Allows users from Internet to access the service on a PC within your home. - Users can input the IP address or Mac address of the PC for Internet access. - Only one PC can be configured as the DMZ. - The default is off.

➢ Port Forwarding (optional) - Port forwarding refers to the particular port being used by the service running on the PC within your home that you want the service to be accessible from Internet. - Unlike DMZ which allows all ports open and forwarding to it, users can state the application name, the range of ports, and the protocol to the particular IP address (or Physical address) of the PC.

➢ DHCP IP assignment (optional) - The default range is from 192.168.8.2 to 192.168.8.127 - Users can manually configure Reserved IP Address such as from 192.168.8.3 to 192.168.8.127 so that the 192.168.8.2 can be statically assigned to a particular PC.

➢ Login username and password - The Username is “user”; and the default Password is “user”. - Strongly recommend users to change the username and password frequently to avoid any illegal activities that might occur from the Internet.

Wireless Setup ➢ Setup - Users are recommended to change the SSID, the WEP key if possible. - If users have devices such as PDA that does not support the 128bit key, they can change to 64-bit key.

➢ Mac Access Control (optional) - Users can input the Wi-Fi NIC physical address so that only the particular devices are allow to connect to the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem. - Default there is no MAC address control.

➢ Security (optional) - The NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem allows WEP and WPA for data protection - Default is 128-bits WEP protection printed on the label of the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem.

Using the Tools (optional) ➢ Ping - Allow users to test whether the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem can connect to Internet or not. - The default URL is www.netvigator.com which will respond to PING - Users can PING to any tested URL but not all URL will respond to PING.

➢ Save configuration It will save the running configuration.

➢ Reset to factory setting It will erase all information stored in the NETVIGATOR Wireless Modem.
