Quality begins at the Origin Thanks to long-standing partnerships in producer countries, Worlée only processes and refines high-quality raw materials direct from the origin.

At Worlée we constantly strive to produce tea using only the best raw materials, whether hibiscus from Nigeria, rooibos from South Africa or rose hips from Chile. Products must already meet the highest quality standards before they may be delivered for processing in Hamburg. In order to maintain our promise of quality, we rely on our long-term relationships with select producers throughout the entire world. Only in this manner can we be certain that all of our raw materials for tea, such as fruits and herbs, will meet our sensory and quality standards and that the raw materials will always be available for our customers in the Worlée warehouses. Our employees travel regularly to countries of origin, confirm the quality of the plants on-site and pass along their expertise to the local farmers. By means of its numerous organic projects, the family company Worlée also supports and encourages organic farming at the origin. Further, more and more raw materials are certified with the Fairtrade label. From Raw Materials to Blends: We create Tea Experiences Worlée’s research and development department develops new tea creations that reflect current trends and are custom-blended according to the wishes of our customers.

The research and development laboratory is the creative heart of the tea department at Worlée. The work of a developer is often similar to that of a trend scout. International trade fairs and business trips abroad serve as inspiration for the creation of new taste experiences or the refinement of well-known tea varieties. Once the first new tea sample has been blended, it must pass a battery of taste, scent, and color tests in the laboratory. Does the tea infusion have the desired color? Is the mint in the herbal blend too piercing? All such questions are answered during the testing carried out by our experienced tea developers.

If the tea should have special characteristics, our nutritional scientists are ready to be of assistance. Whether the tea is intended for colds, energy, detoxification, or calming, they know how our raw materials must be combined in order to achieve the desired effect. In all these ways, Worlée is constantly seeking the perfect tea experience for our customers. This is an exciting, creative and demanding mission – every day in new ways.

At Worlée, every tea blend is developed in close consultation with individual customers. Our goal is to deliver products to our customers that perfectly correspond to their wishes. As our traditional company has over 160 years of experience in the processing, refining and trade of raw materials for the food industry, we have developed a worldwide network of numerous suppliers. For our tea customers, this means that there are very few sorts of raw materials that we cannot obtain. If, for example, a strawberry mixture is desired, we want to present the customer with a full range of fruity tastes. With this in mind, our developers plan tastings with not just one, but rather multiple blends including different sorts of strawberries and taste nuances. Creativity and many years of experience have provided our tea experts with the expertise needed to constantly find new directions and to surprise customers with unconventional formulations.

Checking, Cleaning, Cutting – Quality in every Area When products leave the Worlée warehouses, our customers can be certain of receiving raw materials that assure incomparable tea enjoyment thanks to modern quality standards.

Especially when it comes to food products, nothing should be left to chance. For this reason, raw materials at Worlée undergo a range of quality tests that make up our quality management system. This system has been certified according to the standard DIN EN ISO 22000, FSSC 22000 and HACCP. Often the frequency of these tests goes above and beyond the demands of our customers. At the beginning of a series of extensive tests and examinations, a sensory inspection takes place at the Hamburg facility. At this time we check whether color, taste and smell meet normal standards. Subsequently, we take several small samples of our raw materials to an independent laboratory, where tests such as microbiological examinations and pesticide residue analysis checks are carried out. The next step calls for testing to see whether foreign substances or other impurities are to be found in the materials. Worlée uses manual, mechanical and electronic methods to ensure the purity of all products. Mechanical cleaning processes used include sieving, air separators (e.g., zigzag classifiers and destoners), graders and cascade magnets. Electronic cleaning takes place by means of laser technology, metal detectors and magnet systems. Once the raw materials have been examined and cleaned, we will process them as desired. The latest refinement procedures in Hamburg cover the areas of mixing, cutting, grinding, and packaging. A final inspection before the products are released ensures that customers receive the best possible product quality precisely according to their specifications.
