The 2006 Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will be held at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Competition takes place on April 22 and 23, 2006. Schedule of Events Friday, April 21 6:30 pm

Championship Administration Unless otherwise stated in the Handbook, all Horizon League regular season tennis procedures are in effect during the Championship. Awards

The awards for Newcomer of the Year, Player of the Year, Coach of the

Year, Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award and the All-League Teams shall be presented during the banquet on Friday, April 21. The awards for the Tournament Champion (individual), the Tournament Second-Place Team, and to the members of the Tournament Champion Team shall be presented following the conclusion of each Tennis Championship. Banquet A banquet will be held for participants and members of each member institution’s official travel party. The banquet will be held in the Dolphin Gallery at the Indianapolis Zoo on Friday, April 21 at 6:30 pm. Please RSVP to Stephanie Jarvis using the attached form with your official travel party numbers by Wednesday, April 5. Please note that while attire for the banquet is casual, warm-ups or uniforms will not be permitted. Institutions will be invoiced subsequent to the championship for the number reserved. Championship Format

Men’s: Doubles followed by Singles with pro-sets played in doubles and scored as one point. Women’s: Doubles followed by Singles with pro-

sets played in doubles and scored as one point. All matches will be played to victory rather than completion. Coaches Meeting

There will be a mandatory coaches’ meeting to review championship issues. The meeting will take place on Friday, April 21, immediately following the banquet.

Medical An athletic trainer will be on site throughout the tournament. Officials Officials will be assigned by the Horizon League Staff and will include one head referee and roving umpires. Parking

Parking is available in the lots located next to the tennis courts. Practice Times Practices will be held from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Friday, April 21. The outdoor practice site will be at North Central High School and the indoor sites are at the Indianapolis Racquet Club and the IRC East. Please call Steve Wakefield (IRC) at 317/849.2531 or Phyllis Bird (IRC East) at 317/545.2228 to reserve indoor practice times based on availability. Rules These Championships shall be governed by both NCAA and Horizon League rules and regulations for the sport. Schedule of Events Please find a schedule of events on page 5 of this handbook. Seeding Seeding will be based on results during regular season competition against each league institution. Please see Attachment1 for

Squad Members A minimum of five student-athletes must be properly certified on the

eligibility lists submitted by the institution’s Compliance Coordinator.

Statistics Post-game statistics will be provided to each team following the

completion of each match. Please call Lindsay Martin at the Horizon League office (317/237.5628) if you have any questions. Transportation Each participating institution is responsible for the arrangement and payment of all its travel relating to the Championship. Uniforms

Coaches are reminded that all uniforms must conform to NCAA rules regarding commercial logos.

Bylaw 12.5.5 states that a student-athlete may use athletics equipment or wear athletics apparel that bears the trademark or logo of athletics equipment or apparel manufacturer or distributor in athletics competition and pre- and post-game activities, provided that the following criteria are met: a) athletics equipment (i.e. shoes, etc.) shall bear only the manufacturer’s normal label or trademark, as it is used on all such items for sale to the general public, and

b) the student-athlete’s institution’s official uniform and all other items of apparel (i.e. socks, headbands, t-shirts, wristbands, visors, and hats…towels) shall bear only a single manufacturer’s or distributor’s normal label or trademark (regardless of the

visibility of the label or trademark) not to exceed 2 ¼ square inches in area including any additional material surrounding the normal trademark or logo.

See Bylaw 12.5.5 for a listing of regulations of uniforms. Please note that the Horizon League logo must appear on all competition uniforms.

Appendix A Directions To the Indianapolis Zoo:

From the north: Take I-65 south to Exit 114. Go south on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. St./West St. to Washington St. Turn west (right) on Washington, then travel west for one mile. Zoo entrance is on the north (right hand) side.

From the south: Take I-65 north to I-70 west to Exit 79A (West St.). Go north on Missouri

St./West St. to Washington St. Turn west (left) on Washington, then travel west for one mile. Zoo entrance is on the north (right hand) side.

From the east: Take I-70 west and exit on West St., then go north to Washington St. Turn west

From the South – Take I-65 North to I-465 Northwest. Take I-465 West to the Keystone exit (33)

and turn left. Go to the 86th St.-Nora exit and turn right. Go to the third stoplight and turn left

into North Central High School. Follow straight back until you hit the tennis courts on your left. From the East – Take I-70 West to I-465 North to the Keystone exit (33) and turn left. Go to the 86th St.-Nora exit and turn right. Go to the third stoplight and turn left into North Central High

School. Follow straight back until you hit the tennis courts on your left.

To West Indy Racquet Club (from North Central High School): 38th

Go West on 82nd Street to Meridian St. Turn left on Meridian (south). Turn right (west) on

Street, which becomes a highway. Take Guion Road exit and turn right (north) on Guion

Road. West Indy Racquet Club is on left side of road, behing YMCA.

To Butler University (from North Central High School):

Go West on 82nd Street to Meridian St. Turn left on Meridian (south). Turn right (west) on

49th

Street. Take 49th Street 5 blocks to Hinkle Fieldhouse.
