mauritius images Instructions for Image Upload Please find our new image upload guidelines, effective immediately as follows. This PDF contains information regarding our image platform and the handling – from data transfer to labelling. As already announced, image data and metadata will be imported into our database directly by you. Former data transfer methods via ftp, dropbox etc. will cease. After successfully uploading your images please complete the meta data of the highres jpegs via the labelling fields.

Please note that any prior work within the IPTC fields Caption and Keywords will be detected by the database during the uploading process – avoiding extra work. Please fill in any additional mandatory fields via editing mask. We will then swiftly check the images and meta data for completeness and accuracy and within a short time frame, place them on our website and on my-picturemaxx for sale.

1

Server and Log-In Data At first, please select English as your language from the drop-down menu and log in to picturemaxx’s BACKSTAGE with your personal login details.

https://mauritius-images.bs.picturemaxx.com/ After successfully logging in to the uploading area, you can upload and label your highres jpegs within your personal folder. According to personal experience we recommend using the Firefox browser.

2

Creating a Work Folder Now, please create a Work Folder within your personal folder with the title Offer, your mauritius images photographer number and the current date (e.g. Offer_1234_DDMMYYYY). Please now open this folder.

3

Media Upload Please select Edit, then Upload Media. The File Upload will now open. Files can be easily selected and uploaded either per drag & drop or per folder selection. Please also insert model and property releases (using jpeg or pdf displaying small portrait of the model(s))

Alternative Upload Method: Especially for larger amounts of images and in order to benefit from a faster upload, you can use an ftp client. For example, download and install the ftp client FileZilla. Server: mauritius-images.ftp.picturemaxx.com Your login details will be identical to the BACKSTAGE login details. Using FileZilla you can upload a Work Folder with highres jpegs - as described above - to your personal folder. Please name the Work Folder Offer, your mauritius images photographer number and the current date (e.g. Offer_1234_DDMMYYYY).

After a successful upload it may take some minutes until the first pictures will be displayed in your Work Folder. Please always inform us about new offers via e-mail ([email protected]). The art department will then review and edit your offer. Your folder will therefore be moved into an internal processing level. If your images are already labeled according to our metadata requirements we will publish your offer as soon as possible. If this is not the case, we will move your folder back into yours so you can can edit the images individually or via batch mode. Please open the images per double-click and add required meta data via the BACKSTAGE editing mask in accordance to our requirements.

Captioning Please have a look at our website regarding the captioning standards for various photographic subjects.

Important principles of the labelling: It is not necessary to re-enter single terms into the Keywords field, when they have already been used in the Caption field. Word pairs such as „New York“ should be inserted into both meta data fields. Reason being is that in the Caption field such word pairs will be separated into two single key- words whereas pair terms entered into the Keywords field, will be found as a coherent word pair. Please only use basic forms and superordinate basic terms.

Examples: The meta data of the image of a Christmas tree should contain the basic term Christmas, an image about football sports/sporting. Excellent meta data description and accuracy of terms will increase the findability and therefore chances of selling your images. Meta data can also include abstract concepts, such as with candle also sadness, hope or cozy. FAQs can be found on the following page. Furthermore, we are at your disposal regarding any questions and/or problems you may have. We are looking forward to your next great image offer!

FAQ How shall I offer images? Please, always create a personal Work Folder in BACKSTAGE with the title Offer, your mauritius images photographer number and the current date (e.g. Offer_1234_DDMMYYYY) containing your relevant highres jpegs. How do I recognise a successful upload? When uploading please just click on the Work Folder. All files transferred will be displayed as thumbnails. Following the upload process via ftp client, a message regarding the status of the transfer will appear („successful“ / „failed“). How do we communicate? After successfully uploading, please send us a brief information via e-mail to [email protected]. We will then check your offer and the respective meta data. What happens after the upload? If your highres jpegs are fully labelled, we will send you confirmation of receipt in the form of an image number list. Offers not complying with our labelling standards will be returned to you for further processing. Which IPTC information will be imported onto the database? All of the information within the IPTC fields Caption, Keywords and Creation Date will be imported automatically. All orange marked fields are mandatory and shall be filled in accordance with our standards. Please also fill in the age estimation field. Our standardised meta data presets can be seen by clicking the - button located next to the respective meta data field.

What should I pay attention to regarding model and property release? Basically, all images shall have a status set in the small boxes ( ) on the right: Yes, No or N/A (= not applicable). Please note the difference between No = not available, but necessary, and N/A = not applicable because irrelevant or no persons or no corresponding objects in the image. NB: Persons can be recognised also by parts of the body, specific clothing or personal items. Similarly, details and silhouettes of objects may indicate their branding, etc. Therefore, both are relevant and a respective release is deemed necessary.
