We are the biggest Agricultural Cooperative Association in Saudi Arabia, and we are concerned in marketing our own, our members, and others farmer’s agricultural products. AL-Butain Agricultural Cooperative Association (BACA) is non-profit organization, founded in 1987 in Al-Qassim region, Buraydah city. AL-Qassim is a province located in the northern part of the Arabian Peninsula between 24 and 27 latitude to the North and between 41 and 44 longitude, around 650- 850 m above sea level. It is extremely hot and dry during the summer, and cold with occasionally heavy rain during the winter. The temperature at this area range between 0 C in January, and 46 C in August. Al-Qassim occupies an area of 87,500 Square kilometers, and it is accounted for as one of the richest and most promising agricultural areas in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia . It’s primary objectives are: 1. Providing fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and veterinary medicines. 2. Marketing Saudi Dates . 3. Providing cold and dry storage for farmers. 4. Providing maintenance for the agricultural machinery and equipments. 5. Manufacturing and marketing agricultural products. 6. Rental of different types of agricultural machinery and equipments. 7. Providing field, administrative and technical consulting services to farmers in addition to other services involved in its field of work. 8. Increasing our member’s productivity and raising their income. Activates of Al-Butain Agricultural Cooperative Association to Market Saudi Dates Internationally 0B

1 - Crop Protection and Extension Department The association discovered that one of the main reasons for handicapping the export of dates is crop disease, which affect the dates crop and tree. Therefore, it established a department and supported it with spry cars and other equipments for protecting dates crop and provided the service to dates farmers for a competitive price 1B

2 - Care of Producer and Manufacturer of Dates Affairs in Al-Gassim region Due to the instructions of His Royal Highness Price Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdul Aziz Governor of Al-Gassim region, BACA has taken the care of the affairs of dates producers in Al-Gassim region. This is done through organizing there meeting, marketing their product, and informing them about new dates production line. BACA also helped small dates farmers to transport government purchased dates to government dates factory in Al-Hassa region with the cooperation of Ministry of Agriculture. 3 - Cold Storage Complex to store dates The Saudi Agriclural Development Fund financed the complex. The storage capacity is 10.000 tons and it is equipped with lines to sort, refine, fumigate, and pack dates. The complex is located on the eastern ring road in Buraydah city in Al-Gassim region, Saudi Arabia. 2B

4 - Dates fumigation system The fumigation system (Ultra low oxygen system) works to protect consumer health with no damage on the environment. It is the first of it’s kind in the Middle East, and it fumigates dates before export outside the kingdom. 3B

5- Agricultural products laboratory The laboratory will trace the pesticide and fertilizer residues in dates for consumer safety purposes and for the acceptance of the product (dates) in the export market 6 - Research and Development Due to the importance of research and development, the association had contacted many international research and development organization to develop new dates products. Some of these products: 4B

1- Dates Powder (It has been produced for the first time in the world and it will be as a natural sweetened instead of sugar). 2- Dates Pieces (will be used in cakes instead of raisin). 3- Dates jam. 7 - Standard Saudi Dates Product (Golden Palm) BACA has designed a new trademark Golden Palm , and register it in Saudi Arabia and the European Union. This will help manufacturer and marketer of Saudi dates, administrative capability to design and register a private Especially those who do not have technical and trademark. Therefore, any Saudi factory or product or marketer can use this trademark according to BACA conditions. 8 – International and local exhibitions : BACA has recognized the impotence of specialized international exhibition as a meeting place for producer, manufacturer, marketer, and researcher in the food industry. As a result, it eagerly participated in number of international exhibition to present Saudi dates in the international food market. This Awqaf administration is responsible for running, regulating and supervision of these charitable works upon practical and scientific grounds. This direction is supervised by a council of principals which includes a number of scholars and some sons of Sheikh Saleh Ben Abdul Aziz Al-Rajhy, and it make various contributions in the preaching, social, charitable and medical programs for various charities and the needy inside or outside KSA. 1- Acquainting the agricultural administration : Sheikh Saleh Ben Abdul Aziz Al-Rajhy (may Allah reward him) devoted the best agricultural projects and joined them with Al-Awqaf. This selection was according to the quality of the soil suitable for cultivation and how big the area of projects was. One of these projects is Al-baten (200.000 date palm tree) which a certification as the biggest date palm farm in the world according to Guinness of Britain for public information and records in the year of 2005 AD, the Darmaa project (50.000 date palm tree), in addition to Al-haer, Al-tawfeeq and Al-agfh (2085 date palm tree). Due to, how huge the agricultural projects are, there was a huge responsibility needed a new agricultural administration to be joined with the direction of Al-Awqaf to assume this responsibility through by the development of its technical and administrative sets. Our work was according to the latest cultivating technologies and attracting the best technical and administrative sets which work upon moral and religious grounds were put by the charitable man, Sheikh Saleh Ben Abdul Aziz AlRajhy.
